COCKEYSVILLE, MD – Yesterday, Congressman-Elect Andy Harris was selected to serve on the critical Transportation and Infrastructure and Natural Resources Committees, both highly coveted by incoming members. Due to the regulatory oversight of both committees, Congressman-Elect Harris will have an integral role in growing the economy of Maryland’s 1st Congressional District by creating an environment for enduring prosperity while maintaining a voice in protecting Maryland’s precious waterways.
“With these new assignments, I will be able to effectively address the most pressing interests, concerns, and needs of all of the citizens of Maryland's 1st Congressional District,” said Congressman-Elect Andy Harris. “As a member of both the Transportation & Infrastructure and Natural Resources Committees, I will continue my focus on long-term economic development, government efficiency and protecting our bay.”
The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure has jurisdiction over roads, railroads, aviation, navigable waterways and public works projects. The Committee on Natural Resources has jurisdiction over fisheries, wild life, public lands, Native Americans, irrigation and reclamation, mineral lands and mining and oceanography.
Congressman-Elect Andy Harris will represent Maryland’s 1st Congressional District which includes: Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester Counties and parts of Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford Counties. He will be officially sworn into office at noon on January 5, 2011.
