(Hebron, MD) – A search is underway for an Eastern Shore teenager who fired multiple shots at a Maryland state trooper last night when the trooper stopped to check on a vehicle parked along a Wicomico County road.
The accused is identified as Wyatt A. Young, 18, of the 26000-block of Meadow Land Lane, Hebron, Md. Troopers have obtained an arrest warrant that charges Young with attempted first degree murder, attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a handgun in a vehicle, illegal possession of a handgun, and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony.
At about 1:15 a.m. today, a Maryland state trooper assigned to the Salisbury Barrack, who is not being identified for safety reasons, was traveling in the 7500-block of Longfield Drive near Hebron, Md., when he saw a black 2005 Honda CRV, with Maryland tag 37013M8, parked in the grass along the shoulder of the road. The trooper was in uniform and in a marked patrol car.
The trooper was facing the front of the Honda when he pulled up to check on it. The trooper shone his patrol car spotlight on the Honda and saw someone lying across the front seat. The person, later identified as Young, sat up and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the trooper. Young fired at the trooper through the driver’s side window, causing the Honda’s window to shatter. Young is believed to have fired at least two more times at the trooper, before speeding away from the scene.
Neither the trooper nor his patrol car was hit by the gunfire. The trooper immediately turned around and pursued the fleeing Honda. The accused turned right onto Quantico Creek Road and right again onto Levin Dashiell Road. The trooper lost sight of the Honda prior to Rockawalkin Road.
A search of the area throughout the day by troopers from the Salisbury Barrack and Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office deputies has not resulted in the location of Young or his vehicle. Investigators from the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation are coordinating the continuing investigation, in cooperation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office. Members from the Maryland State Police State Apprehension Team have responded to the area and are assisting in the continuing search for Young. A statewide law enforcement alert has been issued concerning Young.
Anyone with information on either the location of Young or his vehicle as described above is asked to call 9-1-1 or the Maryland State Police at 410-749-3101 immediately. Young is still believed to be armed and dangerous.

Hope they get him. Just saw police car flying down main street...Get em' boys!
ReplyDeleteHe was charged with something in September of 09. There were comments on here about him. Some people apparently thought he was "misunderstood". What excuses do you have for him this time?
ReplyDeleteFunny that this guy is charged with every possible scenario under the sun for firing at an officer, but when someone stabs a random person they are fighting on the street you never see attempted murder...

Another cop hater....
Sad when you can tell law enforcement comments from the comments from others.....the shoot first mentality is a sad testimony to the legal process....and I agree that the same charges should apply whether a civilian or a law enforcement member is the victim....not sure of the reason for posting the speeding ticket info - - - - is there a correlation between speeding and murder?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone have a picture of this idiot? He has been in trouble since his days at Mardela HS. Transfered to JMB and was an idiot there too. His parents have always covered for him. If they are doing it now, they should be jailed like him.
ReplyDeleteI get the whole charge more because of police, because they are putting themselves in that every day, and if someone is willing to shoot at a cop, no one really is safe, unless its a vendetta. I'm of the let's not kill anyone, just put en in a 6x4 cell and let them get real acquainted with their prison buddies in showers mentality. I gotta add this to all the people who make comments about black people. Dude is white.

Liberal IDIOT!! I bet you voted for Obama didn't you!!
Glad to hear the trooper was not injured! Hopefully, this suspect will be apprehended soon. As for WBOC news--it is a pitiful excuse for a news station. Shallow news presentation with no substantial investigative reporting!!! Despite the silly anchors on WMDT, at least there is some attempt to bring information to the public.
ReplyDelete8:30 No I didn't vote for Obama..nor Kratovil or the other liberal "idiots" in office.....because someone's view does not conform to YOURS somehow makes you feel that you need to attempt to belittle them in order to make yourself seem grander....so sad BUT back to the point you are an AMERICAN living in a country founded on the principles of DEMOCRACY that allow for all to receive a fare trial hence my original comment. (Guess your the IDIOT because you obviously missed that somewhere along the way in your history classes growing up).
ReplyDeletePS: As always Joe, thank you for staying on top of local news....especially during the holiday weekend. Hope you had a good Turkey Day!!!
** Our Local TV and Media are total jokes..SBYNEWS is on this. Top of the news for WMDT/WBOC Black Friday..Why Not any information and the suspect photo to let the public in the area know about this incident. Why Not let them know he may be in your living area and to be on the look out. A total joke..Joe keep up the good work!!
ReplyDeleteHis photo can be found on Facebook. You can drag the photo into your save pics and post em Joe..Just an idea for all to see who the suspect is for their safety..Here is the link

this is really sad. so are some of the comments. i'm glad no one was hurt. i hope this kid is arrested and gets help. his parents are not bad and this kid is not trash to be thrown away. where do all of the hateful comments come from? please don't tell me these are police officers. if so, this is sad too. where will our community be in 10 years with poison like this stirring? we really have some sick people in our society by looking at the hatefilled comments on this blog.

7:44's philosophy sounds a lot more like a Tea Party Libertarian than a "liberal". After suffering with the incompetence and drunken sailor style spending of the Bush Administration pulling us into Iraq, and flushing the world economy down the crapper, it's still amazing how incomprehensibly desperate and stupid some conservatives are in now trying to demonize Obama for everything under the sun. You are pathetic.
If you want to know who is to blame for this quagmire the US is trying to pull itself out of look in the mirror.
But they did have a nice story about the family of Lonnie Melvin and how they are mad that no progress has been made in that case from 2005. Look at Lonnie Melvin's record... everything from intimidating a juror to dog fighting to possession of CDS with a firearm. Why is that story news worthy but someone shooting at an officer is not? What if it happened to be a tow truck driver stopping to check on the vehicle, I bet that kid would have shot at anyone. Sorry, but this kid just needs to be removed from humanity. He is obviously unstable and a threat to everyone's safety.
ReplyDelete7:44 - if you read the previous posts, you'd know why the speeding charge was posted...someone mentioned that the kid had been in trouble recently and couldn't remember what for...obviously, the speeding post was an answer to that question.
ReplyDeleteNot that kind of trouble. Put his name in the search box here. I think it was assault with a baseball bat. There were a few bleeding hesrts that said he "had a reason". Now, look what we have running around on the streets. Too many enablers.

ReplyDeleteMy neighbors house was robbed Tuesday night and they believe the gun used may have been one stolen in the incident. Not to mention what he did to the house. Trashed from top to bottom. Just malicious destruction. Nice parents or not, this kid is trouble ( alledgedly ). And to fire at a police officer makes me sick. And scared.
