Sarah Palin's Happiness Is What Really Irks Liberals

This past weekend, I traveled to Chicago to speak at the Conservatives4Palin meetup, where Mama Grizzlies, Palinistas and "ordinary barbarians," as she's now taken to calling her followers, gathered to hear speeches, talk about conservative issues, celebrate a hypothetical Palin 2012 campaign and generally worship at the altar of Sarah Palin.

At one point during the program, Palin made a surprise phone call to the group, patched through one of the organizer's cell phones and played over a loudspeaker. The room burst into spontaneous applause and frenzied yelping as she launched into a warm and cheery 20-minute "thanks for all your hard work" chat.
I returned to New York from the Chicago gathering to find Palin again, not in my ear but on my television screen, bouncing gleefully around Alaska on her new TLC documentary series, "Sarah Palin's Alaska." She and Todd (her "neat husband," as Phyllis Schlafly put it recently) went fishing, rock climbing and bear spotting in between appearing on Fox News and ducking from their nosy new neighbor, who moved in just to write about Alaska's former first family.

It seems everyone wants a piece of Palin these days. Some are fans, some are hostile foes. But regardless, we just can't stop talking about her. Will there ever be a time when we decide that we've figured her out and there's nothing else to say?

And then it hit me. The reason Palin has become such a lightening rod, a kingmaker and a punching bag, a celebrity and a power player, is simple. It's because she's so gosh darn happy.

  1. Sarah Palin is a real class act. I understand if you disagree with her political positions if your a Democrat but the personal attacks are ridiculous.

  4. ? While there are fools out here creating idiotic stories about "who's Trig's real mother?", Palin is absolutely clueless when it comes down to analyzing the data surrounding here positions on the issues which makes her dangerous to us all. But as dumb as some of the anti-Palin stories are, I haven't seen her speak out a single time on any of the trash Obama stories ("his secret gay lover", "secret muslim) so she gets no sympathy on that front either.

  5. It's not her job to defend the failing President ! As to her being clueless, back up your false statement! She has a proven highly successful track record and far more experience then the current President. I'll take action over talk! You criticize her and vote for Obama.. I think your a bit confused.

  6. palin has more "common sense" in her little finger than most have in their entire body. this is especially true for the democrats; socialists; marxists and anyone else who doesn't have a clue about our history and the founding of this wonderful nation. this would apply to those who want to be taken care of by someone else like the government (using my money via. tax dollars). bottom line get a job; get a life; take care of yourself by yourself and leave me and others who believe as i do alone. most of us give to those in "need" directly or through our churches. GO SARAH PALIN........

  7. Reality TV comes to the campaign trail. Her appeal is the dumbing down of America.

  8. 12:50-Why is it Palin's duty to speak out on behalf of the President? I'm not a fan of Palins', nor do I wish to see her as the GOP nominee(it would only bring 4 more years of Obama). But on a near daily basis there is "news" media coverage on this woman. You can't go a single day without an msnbc attack ad. When the truth of the matter is she isn't a big player in the political world.

  9. Marie Antoinette was happy, too, when she dismissively said the peasants without bread could eat cake (another doughy substance, not our fluffy dessert)>

Ask the women who had to buy their own rape kits how they feel about Mrs. Happy.

  10. I'm a Tea Party zealot that believes in ultra conservatism, balanced budgets, and "America" first, foremost and ONLY! Forget China and forget India phocus on Americans needs, jobs and interests. Abolishment of all special interests (lobbies/pork barrel waste). The only party that I see with those same values of conservative thinking is the Tea Party. No one person including any Palin, O'Donnell or Rand Paul can represent a thought or a movement by the people and be certain, there's a ton of us out here today with more coming. Those representatives you see are simply figureheads for change. We've tried, decade after decade of lawyers and judges governing our country, their mismanagement and corruption have us broke and sick to death of their form of governing. It's time for real, hard working, middle class Americans to run this country and can only be accomplished by Tea Party representatives standing on their own two feet, without any Republican influence whatsoever. They will be far less likely to be influenced by entrenched corruption and far more accountable to those that have elected them for leadership. And don't waste your time commenting that only professionals, the educated and lawyers know the real deal in politics, we've seen what they have to offer and they're rotten to the core. I'm willing to take my chances with any hard working American, regardless of race or religion. And term limits should be made law. Some of the solutions needed for a strong country are so simple it's crazy, close the doors on imports, if we need it, then we'll make it here. Close the door on corporations that base their companies here in America/Delaware for their taxation advantages by escaping taxation and then using that against us by producing goods in other countries and then selling them back to Americans by our open door import policy. KILL THAT POLICY DEAD, because it's killing everything America used to stand for and the American work force. And make sure to hit those corporations hard, really HARD, for payment of decades of unpaid back taxes. Mandate it by law, no more free rides. If they don't like it? Simple, pack your company bags and get out, because if your NOT working with us, your definately working AGAINST us. Plain and simple, no lawyers advice needed to figure this one out, we would finally have a government body that ONLY supports the businesses that support hard working Americans, not foreignors and deadbeat do-nothing welfare recipients and those that choose to further their slacker life style (Democrats). Mark it down, Americans are fed up and change is in the wind and we'll be coming your way real soon.

  12. Sarah Palin is a talking head for the Republican Party. They saw the Democrats have a woman in the race, so they went and found a woman to be in the race as well.
When she opens her mouth, the vile hatred comes out.
The best thing the Republican party could do is get her out of the public eye. They're allowing her to make tham a laughing stock.
I'm not saying Democrats are much better - they keep letting Joe Biden open his mouth but atleast he doesn't spew hate.
You fans are all going to find out that that beauty does not lie beneath in Sarah Palin - it's only skin deep.

  13. 3:17 Obviously you have never heard her speak and have never watched a news agency that wasn't filtered by the Progressives. Just goes to show Conservatives hate to be lied too and Progressives hate to be told the truth!

  14. 1:23 and 2:10, it's called hypocrisy. You can't cry foul and stand on holier than thou ground when someone attacks you with slander then applaud when it happens to someone else. And while I'm all for many conservative positions, but you don't get there by not actually analyzing policy. This is not an endorsement of Obama but an absolute rejection of Palin and her lackies (O'Donnell).
