Two days before Thanksgiving, the Indianapolis School Board will make a decision sure to heat up discussion around the turkey in just about every home with young children. That's when board members will vote on whether to adopt year-round classes.
If the board approves the measure, Indianapolis pupils would go to school in cycles of eight to 10 weeks, with three to five weeks off after each, throughout the year. And they would join the growing number of children around the nation who are going to school on so-called balanced schedules.

All part of the Liberal Agenda to destroy the family by kidnapping children and holding them longer and longer away from their mothers.
ReplyDeleteThe government owns the children.
Studies show that extending the school day is more effective than extending the year. BUt if they did extend the year, the summer should be primarily working on science projects, trade skills, and community outreach/education projects.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 9:34, normally I wouldn't publish such stupid comments butu I thought everyone else should get the same laugh I just did.
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDeleteTo the level of the last statement, maybe that went a bit far, but I believe there is a "mindset" among certain powerful politicians that desire to have the children in the schools year round and being indoctrinated. It may not be an outward agenda, but i believe there are some power wielders who DO feel they want to control the minds of children at a young age. LOOK at history.
There's truth to that thought, ef, but the biggest complainers about year-round school will be the single mommies who have to pay somebody to babysit instead of leaving their kids at school till they get off work.
ReplyDeleteHave you noticed all the after-school programs you've had to fund?
Free babysitting.
And it works out for the liberals, too, because they get more time to indoctrinate.
Year-round school works great for us, and we homeschool. We take breaks through the year, but don't have to spend weeks ramping back up after a long summer vacation.
My child was in year round education at Delmar Elementary and we really liked the program, as did all that participated in this vouluntary program. I think the teachers especially liked the format and studies show that it is more effective than tradional school. Its too bad it had to get cut but I really don't think it had anything to do with govt. controlling the minds of young children. Parents have more to do with that than the school system.
ReplyDeleteThe history of Rockefeller Foundation involvement with public education is widely available. Once considered, the history will convince most readers that public education is less about "education" and more about "producing workers" for industry.
ReplyDeleteNow that industry has been outsourced to cheaper countries it is safe to say the purpose of public education is mind control. It cannot be denied.
Therefore, the first commenter was more right than wrong. She obviously skipped through the explanation for such a view, but the evidence suggests the Liberal Agenda does exist to control the thoughts and beliefs of people through a massive public education agenda.
Taking children away from their mothers so the mothers can work for cheaper than fathers - is a good description of the agenda proposed by the Rockefeller Foundation. That is the Foundation which started Womens' Liberation Movement, Gay Rights Movement and the so-called Peace Movement in the 1960's.
The commenter was not far from the truth.
Most people do not realize the extent to which our reality is programmed and controlled by elitists who believe they should engineer a society to make their lives more perfect.
ReplyDeleteMost people are "in the dark", and have not "been illuminated" by the knowledge of our world. They don't realize there has existed for hundreds of years a secret cabal who seeks ever increasing power and control over our lives.
I'm a conservative and I like the idea of "year round" school. I hate when the first 4 - 6 weeks of each school year is spent reviewing what they learned the previous year. I also think a more stable routine in kids lives is a good thing.

ReplyDeleteYou don't think the family is the most positive environment for children?
Taking children away from their families for longer periods of time is a good thing?
I'm chiming in again!
ReplyDeleteIF you thinnk this ii all abouut taking your kids away from the parents for longer periods of time, HOME SCHOOL THEM!
We had a child in year round school in Delmar, (until they stopped it) and it was the coolest thing ever.
It may not be for every child butu I'm a firm believer in the program and until you've tried it, don't knock it.
Many counties in Georgia, Florida & Tennessee have year round classes and it works very well. The students are in school for the same amount of days (so mother's have no fear of excessive kidnapping). Instead of a 10-12 week summer break, we had extended breaks in the fall, at Christmas, and in the spring, then had approx 4 weeks during the summer. It still allowed for family summer vacations but definitely reduced the amount of review needed when the students returned in Aug/Sept.
ReplyDeleteI'm 66 years old, born and rasied in Chicago. From the 8th year of education on for the next 8 years we oped for year round schooling. Finished HS at 16 and City College at 18. Year round schooling is nothing new and it's cost efective in tight budgets and it works.

ReplyDeleteYou are an exceptional person and would not have suffered from any knowledge a bad educational experience.
Others may not be as exceptional as you and so it is possible that others will and do suffer from the ugly reality of public education. Making it year 'round would be worse for them.
Young people now are so much dumber than 20 year ago. Public education is obviously not about helping peole become informed or smart about life. Therefore, what is the purpose of it?
ReplyDeleteMany young people absolutely hate school. Why make them go longer?
anonymous 1:48, GET A CLUE! Year round school isn't longer than regular school. To make it simple, you go to school for three months, you get the next three weeks off. Do that throughout the year and that will give you an idea of how it works.
ReplyDeleteFor us, it was perfect. Every three months we took a three week vacation.
Year around school concept is fine, but the liberal brainwashing of the students needs to be stopped.
ReplyDeleteJoe,
ReplyDeleteYou gotta admit young people now are dumber than 20 years ago. I'm not saying year round school is at fault, but public education in general should be questioned for its purpose and sucess.
This is not good for the children. Their school becomes their home. Children need time to play, create and be in their family environment. This is an excuse to make it more convenient to pawn off their kids.
ReplyDeleteOK...4.02 and others...lets try this one more time. YRE (year round education) has the same number of school days as Traditional school (what we have around here). They are home as many days either way. They have the same amount of time to play either way. YRE gives families schedule flexability and the shorter breaks more frequently prevent burnout and increase learning retention. We used to be able to take a winter vacation but now we have to take our child out of school if we want to do that. Thats just one reason we liked YRE. Like Joe said, don't knock it if you havn't tried it.
ReplyDeleteDelmar doesn't have it anymore because the tests scores showed no difference between YRE and a regular schedule.
ReplyDeleteFor Worcester/Wicomico area, we need to remember that a lot of older students work in Ocean City during the summer.
