TROOPERS TRACK DOWN PA CHILD RAPE SUSPECT

(ELKTON, MD) – A request for assistance from Pennsylvania State Police led to an intense search by Maryland State Police that resulted in the capture of a suspect wanted for raping a child.

Maryland State Police at the Bel Air Barrack were contacted by Pennsylvania State Police in Montgomery County, PA, on the evening of October 26, 2010 and asked to help in the search for a suspect wanted for the rape and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. Pennsylvania authorities said the suspect, Daniel R. Gregor, 23, of Pottstown, PA, was believed to be in Harford County, but only for a short time. Police believed he was planning to flee the United States and knew he needed to be located and arrested immediately.

State Police criminal investigators from the Bel Air Barrack began an immediate investigation and attempted to locate Gregor. They enlisted support from the State Police Criminal Investigation Division and Computer Crimes Unit. Working through the night, they were able to determine Gregor was not in Harford County.

Further investigation developed leads that indicated Gregor may be in Elkton. Troopers from the North East Barrack were called in to help, as were troopers from the State Apprehension Team. Their continuing investigation led troopers to identify a home in the 300-block of West Main Street as the place Gregor was staying with a relative.

At 6:30 a.m. yesterday, troopers went to the residence and Gregor was arrested without incident. He was taken to the Bel Air Barrack for processing. He is being held in the Cecil County Detention Center as a fugitive, pending extradition proceedings by officials in Pennsylvania.

Gregor is not currently charged with any crimes in Maryland. Troopers recovered two laptop computers from the bedroom Gregor was using. Those computers will be examined by the State Police Computer Crimes Unit. If child pornography is found on those computers, Gregor could face charges related to that in Maryland.
