The Goal, $200,000.00 For 2010
The Salvation Army kicked off the 2010 Red Kettle Campaign this morning with more than 250 people in attendance at the Fountains.
We came so close to reaching last years goal but bad weather cut us just shy of reaching the $200,000.00. Two bad snow storms hit the Eastern Shore, stopping us from the biggest day, Saturday, just before Christmas.
"Together We Can" achieve this goal this year. Thanks to so many of you for volunteering your time last year, Salisbury News received this award for OUR, (you and I) contribution and I'm very proud of all of you.
Times are even tougher this year. Families are already coming to the Salvation Army in need of help. Together, we can help the Salvation Army but more importantly, those Families who need us most.
Your time is what I'm asking of you. Please consider ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. 2 hours of your time would be fantastic and very much appreciated.
Sandy Fitzgerald and the Pohanka Automotive Group have teamed up with the Salvation Army to ring the bell every single Tuesday and Thursday at Sam's Club throughout the entire Holiday Season. John Robinson of the Robinson Family of Businesses also joined us this year to take an entire day at one location.
For any business that signs up to ring a bell at any location, Salisbury News will provide a FREE ad for your business for an entire month. It's our way of saying, THANK YOU.
We are so proud of the fact that the Salisbury Chapter of the Salvation Army is 100% volunteers. Many chapters, (as did Salisbury in years past) actually pay bell ringers. Because of your generosity with your time, our local chapter has been completely volunteer for the past two and now 3 years.
Ladies & Gentlemen, this is an unbelievable experience. One in which you will never regret for the rest of your lives. Please join us and help our neighbors and especially their children enjoy a Christmas meal and gifts under the tree they other wise would not have.
To the hundreds of people who have joined us in the past, I personally THANK YOU so very much. We look forward to those phones ringing off the hook and providing schedules to show which locations are available to meet your schedule.
Bedding down with the enemy.
ReplyDeleteI think John Robinson is putting his best foot forward and showing he has what it takes to volunteer for his community. Now if we can just get that grinch to.... oh well
ReplyDeleteThank You John Robinson and Family
Joe,
ReplyDeleteThanks for all you do to support the Salvation Army and other causes. You provide such a great service to the community in promoting these charities and their activities.
It is clear that the Salvation Army is near and dear to your heart. I saw where you recently donated $5000 to the kettle campaign. Now that is putting your money where your mouth is!
You are right, we all need to step forward and volunteer, donate, do whatever we can to see that no child is left out at Christmas.
It is all about the kids. Thanks for keeping us all focused on that.
We can meet the $200,000 goal if we all work together.
awesome Joe. Why you made those distinguished gentlemen stand right behind me... Ugh. You could've cropped me out.
ReplyDeletejoe, if possible, when you make posts like this, could you caption each photo to show whos in it. if its too much trouble though, id understand.
ReplyDeleteThe Salvation Army is the ONLY charity that gives most of the donations directly the needy--most charities and non profits spend the donations on their own salaries and pet projects, for example the Susan Komen foundation gives big bucks to pro abortion Planned Parenthood. Think about where you donations end up--I will only give to the Salvation Army from now on.
ReplyDeleteanonymous 12:43, with all due respect, if you do not know, (by now) who these people are in each and every one of these photos, well, you don't need to know.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is a great thing that Joe and John are doing, Putting there difference's aside to better the community. Hats off to both of you.
ReplyDeleteWe should all try to do whatever it takes to meet the $200,000 goal. If every family would ring the 2 hours as you have suggested, TOGETHER WE CAN DO THIS.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. I have seen the salaries of some of the other organizations people donate to. If people really want their money to go to people that NEED help, the Salvation Army is who you need to donate to.
Joe, I have noticed in recent posts that you are extending a hand to those whom you may have been at odds with in the past.
ReplyDeleteYou are giving credit to other media for their support of the Salvation Army. The John Robinson acknowledgement shows that a real man can set aside differences for the greater good.
I commend you for that and the tone Sbynews is taking in focusing on what we ALL can do if we work together. We can fight and scrap the rest of the year, but let's focus on doing the right thing for our community during the Thanksgiving/Christmas season.
All I can say is I like what you are doing and I hope you keep it up.
