A Comment Worthy Of A Post

"Hey Joe,

I attened the Delmar Fire Departments Annual Dinner this past Saturday as a guest of a friend. During the speeches and awards ceremony they reconignized people that helped them during the snow storm this past winter, farmers who helped with tractors and people that helped get the snow off your roof. They all got plaques for thanks. There was no mention of you whats so ever. I thought you helped them also? Did I miss something? Why they not give you thanks?"

  1. Perhaps the Delmar Fire Department didn't appreciate that Joe turned their need of help into a PR opportunity? Does everything (which is minimal) that you do have to be recoginzed with photos or a press conference?

  4. 5:18 I didn't see it the way you seemed to. I saw it as Joe trying to get everyone to help those in need no matter what your differences with one another are. You anti-Albero people can come here and attack him at every chance you can but how many roofs/sidewalks/ramps/driveways did you help clear or did someone else do yours for you? You just can't stay away from Joe, neither can I but in my case I'm proud to call him my friend. Keep up the good work, Joe!

  5. Helping people is the thanks. I am sure they were apprieciative last winter as anyone would be, not publicly thanking Joe is not an insult.
I dont think the comment was worth of a post or even considering.

  10. If you choose to thank one person for their help, you should thank everyone who helped.

I find it amusing that people act like they don't care for Joe but can quote liberally from his blog.

A good deed is a good deed. Why would they NOT want to thank Joe? I bet they wouldn't hesitate to call on him again if they "NEEDED" him. It is okay for them to be negative and tasteless, but Joe better not do a thing they don't like or it's pay back time.

When it comes to charity or helping those in need, we should be able to set differences aside and do what is right for the common good.

I agree with 5:18 - the whiners and complainers can CLAIM they give and/or help - but my guess is they don't. They are just trying to put Joe down at every turn. Joe is proving to be a better man with all of his good deeds...what about them?

  11. 5:18 and others... if thanks is enough then NO ONE should have gotten a plaque from the FD. singly out Joe to be snubbed on purpose is childish and lame beyond belief!! where do you recruit your members from, Delmar Middle School?? besides, it's funny you fire depts are ones to compalin about someone seeking publicity... you are always posting your pictures of accidents and fire calls! next time we get a big snowfall, I hope you all enjoy climbing up on the roof and shoveling it by hand yourselves, that's what you deserve.

  12. Joe - Don't worry about the recognition. I also broke my chops trying to help out my fellow Wicomico Citizens and they also ignored me. When I proposed to move an entire maintenance operation for several large US airlines into the Salisbury-Airport - (reaping thousands of high paying jobs) - you would have thought the earth was going to quit spinning. Then - BWI jumped onto my proposition and guess what - BWI had them relocate to across the bay and thus reaped the economic windfall benefits. There was so much bickering here locally that our former county airport manager - Mark Brewer - decided to throw in the towel - and thus relocated to Allentown, PA.

So please don't lose any sleep on these people. Just think of yourself as Jonah - like Jonah and the whale - in the bible. He tried as hard as he could to avoid offering assistance to his 'stiff neck people'. But as you well know the Lord had other plans for his life too.

  14. Joe...

I am glad you have not weighed in on this. Sometimes people just do nice things and don't need the recognition. You know what you did, you don't need a plaque to know the truth.

  15. Look at all the guys that busted their butts and plowed roads for weeks straight, they didn't get thanks, they got bashed by all of you on here. I appreciate what you did Joe and I know all about trying hard and only getting criticized.
