Blame The Wall Street Bankers And Corporate CEOs For The "Jobless" Recovery

Now that President Obama's "recovery summer" has fizzled and it's clear we are in for a "jobless" recovery, it is worth examining who bears the responsibility for this predicament -- near 10% unemployment (with millions more so discouraged they have given up looking for work and are not even counted anymore) despite a trillion-dollar stimulus. The manufacturing jobs which were once the backbone of the American economy and fueled the job growth that pulled America out of prior recessions just aren't here anymore. In the name of "free trade," millions of those jobs got shipped overseas to unregulated markets where cheap labor is abundant, environmental restrictions are lax and working conditions are abysmal -- making the costs of corporate production there much lower.

Who bears the responsibility for this structural impairment of the American economy? The Wall Street banks and the multinational corporations, along with those who have done their bidding in Washington for the past few decades are responsible. The Republican politicians that these financial interests own -- and the corporate Democrats they have "seduced" with campaign money -- have been their willing instruments. While millions of ordinary Americans cannot find a decent job and our nation's economy sputters, the Wall Street bankers still make gobs of money, the multinational corporations are as profitable as ever and their political friends in Washington sit on top of stuffed campaign coffers.

Capital is liquid. Without restrictions money flows to where it can earn the highest returns, regardless of any burden its flow inflicts on those left behind, or the hardship inflicted upon the humans who will toil to create the return on that newly placed capital. If a corporation can build a factory in a Third World country where workers are not organized, wages are low and the cost of worker safety and environmental protections are nil and still sell its products here and in other wealthy countries, it will do so. The executives who decide to take capital to remote locations suffer no personal hardship from the fact that a factory that could have been built in America won't be -- or a factory that was in America will be closed and replaced by a Third World site.

This is equally true of Wall Street bankers. It makes no difference to them if a factory in Iowa is closed and the lives of the well-paid workers there are destroyed so that their multinational corporate client can build a replacement factory in Bangladesh. The rapacious bankers pocket the same huge fees for raising the capital required to fund the replacement factory regardless of where it is built, the new workers are located or what happens to the American workers left in the dust. Over two million American manufacturing jobs have been lost to overseas sites in recent years. No one can count how many jobs that could have been created here have not been.

  1. Greedy Wall St bankers and CEO's??
    Horsepoot.
This is just another class warfare article.
So jobs moving overseas doesn't have anything to do with union workers demanding $70/hr in wages and benefits to shoot a few screws into a car door?
Or a marxist government that threatens to tax the corporations out of existence, and leaves them hanging while they decide how they can do it and get away with it?
    Give me a break.

  2. So CEO's and Wall Street Bankers are so greedy that they are only willing to pay the prevailing international wages in the manufacture of their goods so they can keep prices competitive worldwide. Doing so robs the deserving US workers of highly inflated, over valued wages they so greedily demand. As long as the government is willing to give them handouts rather than forcing them to work at prevailing wages they will be without a job.

  3. The rich and powerful owners of industry in America made a business decision to move manufacturing to other countries where labor is cheaper than in the U.S.A.

These same people exercised their political rights to dominate campaign financing and managed to get international treaties signed into existence which also negatively affected U.S. workers' ability to earn a living.

Theses same people then demanded that Congress hand over the Treasury to the international bankers who finance their businesses.

    Everything was done legally.

    Just like in Nazi Germany.

Elitists don't violate laws, they change them to suit their needs.

  4. In an end goal to create servatude and gratitude in the masses between haves and have nots. After they buy your house for pennies, they'll give you a job for pennies to pay your rent in the house you used to own. And you'll do it because you have no other choice, except to hunt them down, one by one and exterminate them as they've tried to do to you and your family. Ask yourself this, who's got it better today, the guys laying back in their subsidized rental with their current babymaker, watching TV knocking back some suds, and checking his mailbox today for his and his old ladies check or you, Mr. I go to work everyday, keep my nose clean and try to provide for my family, even with heavy taxation, minimal jobs and rising costs on everything. Mr. Criminal has plenty of time for crime because the checks in the mail and the long line of babymakers are waiting. Dig it?

  6. Dig this:

Eventually the rest of the hard working, nose clean, by the book types will wake up and smell the Facism. When they do, they will apply for more credit cards, max them all out, write bad checks, buy food, guns, ammo and party like its 1999. Then when the brotha down the street stops collecting the free check and comes knockin' the used-to-be-goodie-two-shoes will . . .

Don't forget the gubment is watching what we type . . .

Anyway, that's the way we are gonna' roll. How 'bout you?

  7. 2:50 There are a kaZillon of us just waiting. We're full up and running over and the government knows it. That's the real reson they're ramping up the Army National Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard for training on how to deal U.S. internal civil disobedience. It's not that Mexico/drug/Arizonia problem that the tell-you-what-they-want-you-to-know news media has fed us but governments fear of chaotic civil disobediance amongst it's people. Here's just one paragraph of the U.S. Coast Guards offical statement that can be found online: The department of the Army Civil Disturbance Plan (DA GARDEN PLOT), promulgated in reference (a), is the governing publication for planning, deployment, employment, and redeployment of federal military resources involved in countering domestic civil disturbances. Coast Guard units may be placed within a Department of Defense (DOD) task force under operational control of the designated task force commander in GARDEN PLOT operations.

  8. So--- all you "as long as you do nothing wrong, you're ok, because the government know's whats best for you, would NEVER violate any laws, and only wants to PROTECT you" people...starting to wonder yet? The US military is specifically PROHIBITED -- by LAW!! -- from enforcing civilian law and operating as a military entity in a military capacity on United States soil. Right there, in front of your own eyes, is a quote detailing the military's plan for quelling CIVIL DISTURBANCE. Did you ever THINK that US soldiers would be ordered to fire upon U.S. citizens?? Our government has NO plan for stopping millions of people from invading our country, yet has detailed plans on how to kill its own citizens. The writer is correct --- there are MILLIONS of Americans - normal, everyday, taxpaying and law-abiding citizens- who are building up supplies of weapons, food, water, ammo, etc because they are NOT stupid sheep who cheer every time the government trashes ANOTHER Constitutional protection. People are getting fed up and restless and the gov't KNOWS it. They're getting ready just like we are.
