INCIDENT: Assault, 2nd Degree

LOCATION: Leonard Mill Apts, 800 Booth Street, Salisbury, Maryland
NARRATIVE: On September 4, 2010 at approximately 0621 hours the Maryland State Police - Salisbury Barrack responded to the above address on Booth St. for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, Troopers located Melvin Alexis COLON-CRUZ, Hispanic/Male, 34 YOA of Pocahantas Ave, Salisbury suffering from a stab wound to the abdomen. EMS transported COLON-CRUZ to PRMC for treatment. Troopers also located Luther JAMES, AA/Male, 53 YOA also of Booth St, Salisbury, who had an abrasion on his neck as a result of COLON-CRUZ striking JAMES with a board. JAMES did not require medical treatment. Investigators from WBI responded and assumed the investigation. Investigation revealed that COLON-CRUZ entered JAMES’ apartment and began hitting JAMES about the head and neck with a board, causing slight injuries and breaking the board. JAMES removed a folding knife from his pocket and stabbed COLON-CRUZ one time in the abdomen. COLON-CRUZ and JAMES were previously familiar with each other.
