Somerset County Sheriff's Office Color Guard

Sheriff Robert N. Jones announces the formation of the Somerset County Sheriff's Office Color Guard, which recently participated in the National Hard Crab Derby Parade in Crisfield and the Labor Day Parade in Deal Island.

This unit was formed after a need was realized during the dedication ceremony of fallen Warden/Deputy Sheriff Lewis Dryden earlier this year.

  1. Okay, I'm sure that there are other agencies locally that have a color guard, but can't Jones think of a better way to motivate the community than the creation of a color guard?

  2. A color gaurd is a great thing and they should be proud. Look at it this way. Since they have nights, weekends, and holidays off, they should have plenty of time to practice

  3. Mmm a need for a color guard? Are they color people? They don't look color to me.

  5. Great......let crime go to heck, spend the time (and money) marching. Good God, and Jones won't understand when he's voted OUT!

  6. 2:29 Jones won't be voted out. Do you really want Webster whom the men will hate? You will have major personnel issues if Webster gets in. Watch the crime soar just like it did in Salisbury.

  7. hey Joe maybe this color guard could spend some of their spare time investigating what state troppers wife broke kristy hickman's windshield out of her county car but if they did that the truth would come out why it was broke and why no one has been charged

Alan, what makes you think you are the one that is going to vote him out?

  9. Well lets face it Bobby Jones has let that office go to hell in a hand basket. Jones had any integrity he would just step down. As for the State Police issue that barrack has been a thorn in the Maryland State Police ass for years. They are one of the lowest producing barracks in the state, yet they have more issues then any full service barrack. The good news is the current barrack commander is a good trooper. I wish him well. The first thing he should do is get rid of any trooper assigned there that was raised in Slummerset County. The C.I.D. at that barrack is just pure lazy. How often do you read a press release from there. The bottom line is they do nothing. The issue with Kristy Creampie Hickman was swept under the rug like everything else that goes on.

Sorry as I am to say it Webster might be just what the doctor ordered and that is sad.

  10. Anon 5:37, that may have been the case years ago, but I can assure you that the personnel at the current Princess Anne Barrack are some of the most professional and hardest working in the state. you are about two decades behind.

  11. Actually the Princess Anne Barrack is ranked in the top 5 in the state. Do a little research before you post.

  12. Deputies can leave guns in cars and have them stolen. Nothing done but give the deputy more schooling and promote him.

  13. Not real sure where 5:37 got his stats from. The last we heard the barrack in Princess Anne was one of the highest producers, rivaling the highway traffic barracks in stats. The closure rate for crimes reported is also one of the highest in the state. The only reason they are held back is that they are and have been shorthanded. As to the Troopers that are from Somerset, I've known most of them and I've found they take pride in the county and the fact they are from there. The retention rate for Troopers to stay and not transfer is pretty high there, probably the only other place like that is out in western Maryland. Sounds to me you just got an attitude with law enforcement.

  14. 6:58, the closure rate may be high for the police but the cases never get to court because of the disfunctional states attorney. Pleas, stets, nolle's, and flat out no charges brought for friends and family by this SA. Logan Widdowson is turning over in his grave I suspect.

  16. I know why they stay they have it made. They do nothing. The Salisbury Barrack kicks butt. You have a great Barrack Commander in P/A. That is about it. No your stats need to be looked at hard. Wow you guys actually close all five cases for the year. Big deal. Solve who busted out Hickman's windows then we will talk. Ooooppps did not mean to go there.

No honor or integrity. easy to have a great closure rate when you get five cases per year assigned.

No I like law Enforcement. Those that earn their pay.

  17. 1:14, Their CID has handled approximately 200 cases this year. You sound like a bitter individual.
