SIX-RUN FIRST INNING LIFTS GREENJACKETS TO 10-3 WIN

Three Games Remain in 2010 Season

Salisbury, Md.
– The Augusta GreenJackets (35-30) scored six runs in the first inning and two more in the second to cruise to a 10-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (59-78) on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Shorebirds starter Patrick Kantakevich lasted just 1.1 innings as Augusta came out swinging. In the first, they plated six runs on eight hits and sent 11 batters to the plate. Included in the frame was a two-run triple by SAL all-star third baseman Chris Dominguez. The first five batters recorded hits and the first four batters scored.

The GreenJackets tacked on two more runs in the second. Tommy Joseph and Luke Anders each recorded RBI hits to give Augusta an 8-0 lead.

The Shorebirds plated a run each in the second, third and fourth innings. In the second, Levi Carolus tripled and scored on a Tyler Stampone groundout to short. In the third, Kyle Moore scored on a single up the middle by Ty Kelly. In the fourth, Stampone led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Garabez Rosa.

Augusta starter Zach Wheeler, the 6th overall selection in the 2009 draft, earned the win in five innings. He surrendered seven hits and three runs. Shorebirds starter Kantakevich was pinned with the loss in 1.1. He allowed ten hits and eight runs.

Brian Parker to tossed 4.2 innings of relief. He allowed three hits and a run. Parker also fanned five batters.

Kevin Landry appeared for the first time since August 1. He tossed a scoreless seventh inning.

Orioles tenth round pick in 2010, Clay Schrader, tossed two scoreless innings in his second appearance.

The Shorebirds and GreenJackets play game two of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Bobby Bundy takes the hill for the Shorebirds.
