Shariah A Danger To U.S., Security Pros Say

A panel of national security experts who worked under Republican and Democratic presidents is urging the Obama administration to abandon its stance that Islam is not linked to terrorism, arguing that radical Muslims are using Islamic law to subvert the United States.

In a report set for release today, the panel states that "it is vital to the national security of the United States, and to Western civilization at large, that we do what we can to empower Islam's authentic moderates and reformers."

The study group, sponsored by the conservative-oriented Center for Security Policy, says in its report that proponents of advancing Islamic law mark the "crucial fault line" in Islam's internal divisions separating truly moderate Muslims, like the late Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, from the large portion of the world's 1 billion Muslims who advocate imposing what they call Shariah law throughout the world.

Mr. Wahid, who died in December, is a widely respected Muslim visionary who promoted pluralism in Indonesia, which has the world's largest population of Muslims.

According to the report, proponents of Shariah are "Muslim supremacists" waging "civilization jihad" along with the Islamist terrorists engaged in violent jihad, like al Qaeda.

Included in the team of former defense, law enforcement and intelligence officials were Clinton administration CIA Director R. James Woolsey and Andrew C. McCarthy, former assistant U.S. attorney in New York, a career counterterrorism prosecutor during the Clinton administration.

Frank Gaffney, director of the Center for Security Policy, said the Obama administration's policy is based on an incorrect assumption. The Team B report seeks to expose flaws in anti-terror programs, including the policy of not referring to al Qaeda and similar groups as "Islamist" to avoid offending Muslims, he said.

"What if it turns out that some of the people the Obama administration has been embracing are actually promoting the same totalitarian ideology and seditious agenda as al Qaeda, only they're doing it from White House Iftar dinners?" said Mr. Gaffney, referring to the daily meal eaten by Muslims to break their fast during Ramadan.

  1. I think it broader- you cant just say Islam is linked to terrorism, to be accurate you have to say "religion" is linked to terrorism.

Abortion doctor murdered and IRS building bombers are no different than the Taliban- its all Jihad any way you look at it.

  2. islam is a religion, there are no moderates that is a sham. islam teaches shariah law is first and foremost. that can never be changed in their religion. they will never submit it to the us constitution. they believe it is ok to subjucate women and to lie to and kill anyone who is not of their religion. when will all americans wake up and realize what they are truly trying to do to this country?

  3. "the large portion of the 1 billion Muslims who advocate imposing Sharia law"?? You see, Al-Queida is just the MILITARY wing of Islam. The MAJORITY of Muslims go right along with, and are quietly in agreement with, and often (quietly) support the military wing of Islam in their efforts. Its their religion. What else can they do?? So please stop that crap about "it's just the extremists giving Islam a bad name." No it's NOT. It's ISLAM giving itself a bad name...and a well deserved one. NO God I worship says to go kill people (unarmed women in children in schools and markets? Yeah, they're good targets, too) in He has a great reward for those murders. Islam is a religion that ADVOCATES murder and mayhem in the name of GOD...its not just the "extremists" who believe the Koran and these precepts...its ALL Muslims.

  5. It's NOT the religious freedom I have an issue with, 12:40....in fact, I don't really care WHAT, if any, religious beliefs you may have. Worship however and whomever you want. BUT, please, PLEASE don't kill me for MY beliefs, don't kill my sister for driving to the school, don't set mother on fire for talking to her best friend's boyfriend, and DON"T tell me your "religion" says its your DUTY to kill, maim, and murder innocent people shopping for vegetables, because your so-called "God" says he wants you to kill. And then preach about how "peaceful" your religion is... THAT'S my problem with Islam. Their Koran tells them to kill. Murder and slaughter non-believers. Kill, without remorse, infidels. That's a religion??? MY religion says "tell everyone of the Word. Let them decide what they beleive on their own. I (God) will judge them for their decision." There is no need for me to kill them ---- their judgment awaits them, but not from me. THAT'S a *peaceful* religion. Religious freedom? All for it...violence and murder, sanctioned by your "god"??....no thanks.
