ANNAPOLIS – Maryland Republican Party Chairman Audrey Scott today asked Governor Martin O’Malley to call on Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation Secretary Alexander Sanchez to resign. In a letter to the Governor, Chairman Scott highlighted the recent scandal surrounding the censored July Jobs Report and gross mismanagement of unemployment funds as primary reason she is calling for his resignation. Chairman Scott issued the following statement regarding her call for Secretary Sanchez to resign:
“For entirely too long the DLLR has served as a hindrance to job creators and a burden to Maryland Taxpayers. Last week we learned the department wasted $46 million in improperly distributed unemployment benefits and now through Public Information Act requests we have learned the culture of the DLLR encourages employees to deceive the taxpayers for political gain. We cannot continue down this path, our taxpayer funded agencies are supposed to work for us, not Governor O’Malley’s reelection bid. With nearly 7,000 jobs lost last month and a record number of Marylanders still unemployed, we need principled leadership focused on job creation. All of these recent developments show Secretary Sanchez is no longer up to that task and I call on Governor O’Malley to seek his resignation immediately.”
