Wicomico Post 64 Baseball Wins First Ever American Legion State Title

Salisbury's own Post 64 American Legion Baseball team won the Maryland State Championship this past week at Shippley Field on the campus of the University of Maryland. Comprised of some of the most talented 15-19 year old high school and college players in the area, Salisbury came up big the first three days of play with wins over Chaney Enterprise from Waldorf (6-5), Funkstown (10-9), and reigning Mid Atlantic Champions Mt. Airy (16-11). After losing to Laurel on Saturday (15-14) Post 64 came back on Sunday to defeat the same Laurel team 11-1 in the championship game to advance to PA. According to advisor and retired coach Gordy Kissner it was the first ever State title in memory for Post 64 baseball and Salisbury at least since it s reinsertion in 1998 and maybe ever.

Under first year head Coach Bill Cropper the team ends this portion of their season with a 29-7 record. Post 64 now advances to the Mid-Atlantic Regional’s in Reading Pennsylvania where they will begin play against West Virginia (29-7) on Thursday at 4:30pm in a double elimination format. The Regionals include teams from: NY, NJ, DE, MD, WVA, Western PA, and Eastern PA with the winner advancing to the American Legion World Series in Tacoma, Washington.
