With cold stuff that date assumes that it did not sit on the loading dock too long, not the case many times. I NEVER use after the date, and always give it the sniff test if it is getting close.
Depends on what it is, how it looks and smells, and how far past the date it is. That date is generally very early to protect the manufacturer/distributor/retailer from potential law suits - use it within the time frame you're perfectly safe. Generally canned, frozen, or preserved items are still good long after that date. I still believe good judgment and paying attention are better than government mandated "solutions".
Dont have to worry about it, most of my daughters are grown and gone but there friends never did leave, they eat everything I have. I was thinking about putting a list of prices on the fridg door for samwiches, cokes, pickles and such. Probably need a permit for that though.
Unless it is unsafe to eat (any kind of outdated meat) I will try to use it.The best way to avoid outdated food is to check dates before you buy-some stores will sneak stuff by past date.If the date is close and you arent going to use a product see if it can be frozen and saved.BTW,stale bread is great for bread pudding and french toast.
Depends what it is. Chicken -NO Canned veggies - YES
ReplyDeleteNEVER, on anything...but I'm a little anal about stuff like that too. :)
ReplyDeleteI DO NOT, I BARLEY EAT LEFT OVER FOOD...
ReplyDeleteOnly milk & eggs. Eggs are good up to 3 weeks past date & milk is good at least 7 days or until smells sour.
