With just 78 days before the midterm elections, Republicans have seized an all-time record lead in generic party preference — a clear signal that Democrats are running out of time to resolve the ground zero mosque controversy and get back on message if they hope to avoid a political train wreck in November.
Democratic pollster and Fox News commentator Douglas Schoen calls the latest polls "very bad" for Democrats.
"With these numbers, the House is almost certainly gone and the Senate is very much in play," Schoen tells Newsmax.
For Democrats, the timing of the polls could hardly be worse.
Reports are emerging from the White House that Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has been in damage-control mode, working the phones to stave off further Democratic defections over President Obama's on-again, off-again support for construction of a mosque and cultural center in lower Manhattan.
Late Monday, Majority Leader Harry Reid parted company with the president, saying the mosque should be built elsewhere. A flurry of swing-district New York Democrats also are siding with Reid, and urging that a new location be found. They include Reps. Mike Arcuri, Mike McMahon, Steve Israel, and Tim Bishop.
The division among Democrats, combined with the poll numbers, raises the prospect of a massive GOP landslide in November.
Gallup reported Tuesday that the GOP has seized the largest margin of advantage in the history of the firm's generic ballot: 50 percent to 43 percent. Pollsters use generic ballots to ferret out which party is favored by voters irrespective of specific candidates or individual races.
Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport confirmed to Newsmax that Tuesday's result is the largest GOP lead the organization has ever recorded in generic-ballot polling.

Democrats are anti-American .
ReplyDeleteWhy has the Church that was destroyed on 9/11 notbeen rebuilt and why has NYC placed unjust restrictions on rebuilding the Church, a government parking lot under the Church? If they have the Constitutional right to build on their site why is there restrictions placed on them? They are not being given the same consideration as is the excuse given for the Mosque to be built that close to ground zero. Where is the Religous freedom for this Christian Church? Does the Religous freedom and Constitution only apply to Islam? Is this not religous discrimination? Why is it Islam get preference without restriction?
ReplyDeleteAmericans are starting to wake up to the fact that this mosque is a national security issue and not a religious freedom issue. Our national security trumps their freedom to put up a mosque where their intolerance of everyone but muslims will be promoted.
ReplyDeleteHey, to all of the Mosque critics, if you dislike the freedom of religion afforded to you and every other citizen of this great country- feel free to move somewhere with less religious tolerance.
ReplyDeleteThis issue is not about politics, or war or any other "fear" issue- This issue IS about the right of EVERY American to practice religion as he or she wishes or not at all.
But, if you insist on protesting this Mosque, also consider protesting catholic institutions near playgrounds, and christian churches near learning institutions.
11:28 this IS about politics, war and especially fear...you just don't get it.
ReplyDeleteThis issue isn't about any of those things to me 11:28. It's about class, grace and being tasteful. Building a mosque in that particular spot exudes none of these traits. No one against the mosque is saying muslims or any other religion cannot practice their religion. We're saying they should not build a mosque on a very particular portion of real estate. You claims are dumb, ill-conceived and false.
ReplyDeleteUntil the same individuals like Ron Brawl speak out about the flying/wearing of confederate flags, especially on government buildings, your hypocrisy will continue to show. So what if you don't like the mosque? It's private property and meets the standard zoning codes. We have alot bigger threats than the building of a mosque. In fact, maybe this mosque will create much needed jobs in NYC during this tough economy for many of you complaining about it.
ReplyDeleteANON 11:28 How come no one is bringing up or discussing the fact of why they want to build as close to the scene as possible of a massacre of Americans by radical Islam. The radical Islamist that created this massacre are considered heroes for their martrydom and this building is and will be considered a monument / smybol of what they call their supiorority over all of the Human Race. Learn your history before comentting in an uneducated manner. But maybe that is why you stated what you did about having Christian schools near learning institutions. You don't beleive in individuals learning all the facts and make their own conclusions. Then Progressives / Liberals can brainwash / control people into beleiving incorrect history.
ReplyDeleteThey have bypassed the Clintons and asked Bush to save Obama on this issue hahahaha.
ReplyDeleteWrong Ron, legal actions were sought prior to those against this being told that muslims have the constitutional right to build. All of a sudden the argument became "well they shouldn't build because I said so". If you keep this up, we are going to send you to bed without dessert.
ReplyDelete1:23 - Who brought the legal challenge to this masque, what court was the case heard in?
ReplyDeleteJust wondering
1:23 It's about being consistent ,If there was an Indian burial ground or holocaust atrocities committed on this spot there would be no Mosque . The fact a Christian church isn't being rebuilt and the ties this Imam has to Islamic extremism should be enough for any logical person .
ReplyDelete2:14, detractors first went to the landmark planning commission to try to get the Burlington Coat Factory classified as a landmark so that it could not be torn down to build the mosque. On top of that, now you have conservative groups looking to the courts.
ReplyDeleteLet the Muslims build the Mosque when they complete it then destroy it, give the Muslim their own 9-11 see how they like it.
ReplyDelete"Either we are what we claim we are or we are not. Either the great platitudes we espouse are true or they aren't. Whatever the truth, let us not deceive ourselves as self-deception is the first step toward being truly mentally lost."

Conservatives preach about American freedom, exceptionalism, tolerance, and welcoming spirit. Then prove it by not running in fear from this project. Welcome in the millions of peace-loving muslims. Hell, take advantage of the job creation from this project.
The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was so close to the World Trade Center that it was destroyed when the buildings collapsed. The only reference that I could find to it, other than its appearance on Fox News, is Wikipedia. Wikipedia says that the church and the NY Port Authority are arguing about money and other things. The Port Authority says the church wants 20 million dollars from them up front and the right to review all plans for the surrounding area. The church says they have been forgotten.
ReplyDeleteNot a religious freedom issue, but the same nonsense that keeps all rebuilding in the area at a standstill.
The landmark commission thing was due to actual wreckage from the 911 attacks landing on that building. It really has nothing to do with who owns the building or what they want to do with it. Some people believe that since it was a part of the 9/11 attacks, it should be declared a landmark. People would have done that no matter what the plans were for that building.
ReplyDeleteWhat conservative groups are looking to the courts? What does "looking to the courts" mean? Has there been a suit filed? In what court?
Back up your allegations.
3:38 Harry Reid isn't a conservative ! This is an American issue it's all people just take a look at Obamas poll numbers .
ReplyDeleteHey 10:07, i am a democrat and against the mosque and i am anti American,GROW UP IDIOT.
ReplyDelete4:40 I wouldn't call someone an idiot and admit your a Democrat in the same sentence .
ReplyDeleteblaaaaaaaah i read 11:28 and stopped. I'm with 11:28 100% and Whooooah guess what I'm NOT a Democrat!! both sides suck if you ask me
ReplyDeleteJoe, you didn't post my comment that contained direct evidence proving the false crap that 4:24 was spouting. What gives?
ReplyDeleteHopefully 4:24 you took two seconds to google some information before you comment on any stories today.
8:49 - so put up
ReplyDelete4:24 didn't spout anything, they simply asked you to prove the false crap that you were spreading.
12:57, BULL$h!t.
ReplyDelete"It really has nothing to do with who owns the building or what they want to do with it."
FALSE. Google "NYC Landmark commission mosque". Must be the selective memory.
And I posted a link straight to the story of a conservative group now looking to go to the courts. Assuming Joe doesn't like to post links.
