Gay Marriage Opponents Rally At Capitol

More than 100 opponents of same-sex marriage congregated near the Capitol and the Supreme Court on Sunday, in the last stop of the Summer for Marriage tour. Marriage equality supporters marched from the Capitol to Freedom Plaza in opposition.

The National Organization for Marriage -- which, despite its name, opposes gay marriage -- sponsored the "traditional marriage" event. The group is backing D.C. mayoral candidate Leo Alexander and Ward 5 Council candidate Delano Hunter. Speakers at the event included Bishop Harry Jackson, former D.C. congressional delegate Walter Fauntroy, and Bob King, the citys longest-serving advisory neighborhood commissioner.

D.C., of course, embraces gay marriage, and that is unlikely to change after this years election. The national protest tour was sparked primarily by pro-gay marriage campaigns across the county, and by the recent ruling on Californias Proposition 8.

  1. Really people, with everything else going on, you have time to rally about what 2 gays do together? Well atleast the street kids might make good on water sales today.

  3. When are they going to protest the divorce laws? Since they are so concerned about marriage.

  4. why is it if we protest, were horrible and hate filled? yet if a fairy comes flitting along nagging about its rights, its a joyful occassion to be remembered?

  7. 11:42 this world is, hopefully, coming out of its backwards ways and coming toward equal rights for all people regardless of their gender, race, or sexual orientation.
Why, is there a problem with that?

  8. Homosexuality is not a right it's a choice acceptance of this perversion is a step backwards .

  9. 11:51, i am a "fairy" as you call call it and i take serious offense to that word. I'm sure i could take you in a fight and i'm also sure you have felt the touch of a man, most straight guys have.

  10. Sick, if the early President's saw what this country is doing today they would flip in their graves.

  11. 12:55, since when don't American citizens have the right to love another consenting adult. I'm no cheerleader for gays, but man mind your own business.

1:04, until you gay dudes stop floating around and trying your hardest to be women, cut all the "i take offense at 'fairy' crap". Thats like me complaining about the "gangsta" stereotype(I'm a young black male) without addressing the dummies out here selling dope on the block or the "thug" rappers.

  14. 1:32 No body is stopping anyone from getting married .You just have to do it with a member of the opposite sex.
No one is stopping gays from coming up with their own form of union their just not welcome using ours as it was designed for a man and a women . Stop trying to change our institution !

  18. Years and years ago I was in Cape Cod ten sheets to the wind and thought I had got lucky one fine night with a beauty. As the night progressed and I layed a big smackaroo on her I felt something I never felt before, RAZOR STUBBLE run buddy run. These are the days of our lives. Sad thing is IT was a damn fine kisser.

  19. It never fails to amaze me when there is a post about gay marriage on here that the same morons talk about homosexuality being an illness and that we are corrupting the 'institution'. grow a set and stop worrying about gay people getting married. They aren't trying to marry you, so why does it even matter? No one stops heterosexual couples from getting married and you idiots have never had to fight for the rights promised to you as an American citizen. Worry about the health care reform. Worry about the abuse of the welfare system. Worry about sh*t that actually affects YOUR LIFE. I pray for your children, as they are being raised in homes full of hate.

  20. To everyone who's so far left hateful comments concerning gays, why do you care so much that they get married? I'm quite positive that none of you regularly come into contact with them, because I'm sure that if you did, you would find very few differences between them and you. I mean, how do you sleep at night knowing that you WANT to restrict someone else's dream and right to be happy? How hateful can you be?

  21. I don't care if they want to be happy, just don't repulse me in the process. The thought of hersey highway stuff makes me sick.

  22. 6:02, then don't think about it? they don't broadcast the way they have sex. they don't go and get married and talk about the way they want to do it to each other afterward. you offend more people generalizing that way than they ever would by doing what they do in private.

  23. Im 4:27 and I dont care what people do with their lives if they are true and responsible. Its not my call, Ive dealt with this some here lately from old to young and Im neutral on this. If I enjoy your conversation and you dont violate whatever trust I have given you, were cool.

  24. Nobody cares just don't lesson the normal institution of marriage . Marriage is two people making a covenant with God .Stop trying to act like being gay is normal it's not it's at the very least a perversion and definitely an illness .

    ReplyDelete
  25. 9:01 Anyone can have a covenant with God. Not just hicks like yourself, although you have probably grown to believe that God loves selectively. Being gay is just as normal as being straight. Being gay goes farther back than you probably even care to realize since you more than likely dropped out of school in the 4th grade to fix cars or whatever rednecks do. If being gay is an illness, so is being stupid, so maybe we should both go get checked out. Regardless of intelligence, gender, color, sexual preference, etc we are all deserving of our constitutional rights. You are using religion to perpetuate ignorance. Maybe if you cared more about having a covenant with God and less about using it as leverage in your vendetta against homosexuality, you would be a kinder person.

  26. JOE YOU HAVE A LOT OF GAY FOLLOWING?

    ReplyDelete
  27. 10:38 Being gay is a perversion and a mental illness if you took the time to get an education you might know the difference . Homosexuality will never be normal not so much with others but within yourself you will never feel satisfied or whole until you walk the road nature intended.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 5:03, Well obviously no one is going to change your little mind and no one is forcing you to support gay marriage. An educated person can see both sides of a story and respect the opinions of others without criticizing the other person's beliefs. I'm sure in my 'abomination' of a marriage, I am happier, wiser, and more tolerant than someone like yourself. Like I have said countless times, I respect what you believe in, so maybe you should take time to respect others. Maybe then you won't come off like a bigot. Also, consider looking up a list of documented mental illnesses and let me know when you find scientific proof that it is an illness that can be treated by medication and not just religious brainwashing. I am not afraid to be happy and stand up to people opposing my lifestyle. I'm not asking for everyone to support it and I don't think I deserve a medal for being gay. I'm a human being and my heart beats just like yours does. You break my skin and I bleed the same blood. Though we love differently, we aren't all that different. I'll pray that one day you won't be so angry.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 10:22 It's not an education issue so you can stop looking down on people in your lonely arrogance who are more educated then you. Marriage is between a man and woman as our President and most people agree if you want to create your own union I'm not against it just leave mine alone !
