Jonathan Taylor used his Blog to promote the event and because it was created by teabagger Chris Lewis, Salisbury News chose not to give it any real attention, knowing it would fall flat on its face.
The end result, less than a hand full of people actually showed up, other than candidates. What made me sick about the whole event in Sharptown was the fact that they created, (by pressure) an event that delivered THREE curious people, one of which was the only one that stated they were there to meet the at large candidates. She got up and spoke, asking those candidates where they stood on a couple issues concerning her interests.
Other than that, it was a complete waste of time. No different from the last Tea Party gathering, their numbers continue to dwindle. Chris Lewis was dressed like he was getting ready for a mud wrestling match after the event, but at least he showed. No holes in his pants, like some other candidates we'll not waste time mentioning.
Sharee Sample Hughes, Julie & Mike Brewington and Dr. Cowell, were NO SHOWS.
I had been asked by several candidates if they thought they should attend the event and I said, you're kidding me, right. If its only being promoted by Jonathan Taylor, no one will show. I was absolutely 100% right. Michael Swartz, (another local Blogger) was there as a candidate and between those two Blogs, one would think they'd at least have their friends show up.
While Wednesday night's forum at the MAC Center for the States Attorney's Office will only have three candidates attending, (not 30, like today) just wait and see how many people show up and attend that event promoted by Salisbury News. It should be noted, Matt and Davis did attend this event today. Has anyone even seen Seth Mitchell anywhere?
I've been covering political events for the past 6 years here on the Eastern Shore. I see many of the same faces, whether it be a Tea Party, fundraisers, forums, council meetings, AFP, it's usually many of the same faces. Every so often there will be some new faces with a glimpse of hope, like when the AFP & Tea Party started. Then some screwballs get their hands in it and the interest disappears. However, this event had to be the worst I have ever seen.
All that being said, I wish I had been wrong right from the very beginning. I wish the place had been completely packed with citizens interested in their local government and ALL of these candidates who took the time to travel to Sharptown on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I wish for the sake of the other Bloggers that they had enough respect from their readers to drop what they were doing to meet those people truly wanting to make a difference for their community.
It mystifies me to no end that people in America today take these elections for granted and elect people who have more yard signs, or they look nice with blonde hair, or a family member has a big name in the community. Folks, please start using your heads when you put these events together. There was no real format for today's meeting. It was poorly organized from the very beginning. It was poorly advertised/promoted and today was living proof that no one takes those who did promote the event seriously. Salisbury News was NOT contacted with a Press Release for this event.
While I know some of you involved with the Tea Party or the AFP will be upset with some of what I've said in this Post. However, I not only tell it like it is, I'm not afraid to state the obvious. Like me or not, I've been doing this, (Blogging and covering events) long enough to see right through the junk others tend to spew. Chris Lewis, (and others) can no longer be taken seriously.
Sharptown deserves better! The American Legion has always done all they can to bring forth open government and educate their small community. Ralph Cordrey, Doug Gosnell and other leaders of Sharptown have always taken pride in servicing their community. This was unfortunate.
I'm a resident of Sharptown and I would have loved to have been there but I knew nothing about this. It would of been so informative and helpful.
ReplyDeleteWho is Chris Lewis & Jonathan Taylor? Never heard of them.
ReplyDeleteI watch WBOC-TV--didn't see anything about this on there nor did I see anything in our newspaper.
ReplyDeleteWOW! What politicians were there..name them!!!!
ReplyDeletePretty much everyone with exception of the names mentioned above.
ReplyDeleteI do not see Dave Cowall's name among your interviews either. What I do see is Dave Cowall signs in every bleeding heart liberal's yard though. Please think before voting in a Liberal Democrat people.
ReplyDeleteSo much for trying to get the word out with Jonathan Taylor--loser!!!
ReplyDeleteHey,Joe. How did people in Sharptown know about this? I heard nothing.
ReplyDeletechris lewis and jonathan taylor aren't credible; hence the "no-shows". it's a shame lewis co-opted the local tea party.
ReplyDeleteSalisbury is headed for the junk pile and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
ReplyDeleteBRING BACK SEGREGATION!!
teabagger?
ReplyDeleteSome people feel we have been lulled to sleep with entitlements and such by BOTH parties while they line their and their friends pockets with our hard-earned money.
Insult us with lewd names if you wish, you are showing whose side you are really on. It's not the one of the American working man.
6:14am -- You mean to tell me those who I voted for in our local elections to serve as our Sheriff, County Executive, States Attorney, and County Council in Wicomico County are "lining their and their friends pockets with our hard-earned money?"
ReplyDeleteBetter be careful there and understand who you are accusing--I know most of the "local leaders" and I don't believe any one of them would do such a thing.
7:46- I am careful and I do understand who I'm accusing. I am speaking mainly of the Federal level but when we "get our fair share" or stand idly by and allow it to happen without even illustrating it, we are just as guilty.
ReplyDeleteI don't accuse Mike Lewis of anything. He's a good man.
Davis' own actions show he thinks he is above the law. Pollit fails to show financial responsibility.
Part of the problem is that every voter thinks: "It's not MY elected official, it's all those other ones". This allows the status quo to continue. Our republic has become Of the Government, By the Government, and For the Government and for this, both parties at all levels share some responsibility.

ReplyDeleteMany of these agencies have been corrupted, whether you want to believe it or not. Maybe not in payoffs and the like, but when it comes to honesty, being trustworthy, and doing the right thing even if it costs them in the end, they fall short.
Also, using offensive names for a brave group of folks that just want to turn our country back toward our founding fathers is unacceptable.
8:04--I agree with some of what you are saying but when you say it you "paint all elected officials with the same brush." As you say, you have no problem with Mike Lewis--etc. And that's no right for those who are "doing good" and trying to serve the people. Call it like it is and don't use broad terms like elected officials--if it is at the Federal level then make it clear. And even that's not making your point clear--some at the Federal level do great work for us--"We the people."
ReplyDeleteSheree Sample Hughes doesn't go to Sharptown unless she is escorted by Mike Lewis. This no show should tell the people of District 1 (Sharptown) just how worthless she is. She didn't even bother to show up to try to win your vote.
ReplyDeleteBefore I forget, it's TEA PARTIERS not teabaggers. Show some respect for people that are willing to do what others will not.
anonymous 9:14, let me wake you up to REALITY this morning.
ReplyDeleteA COWARD hides behind ANONYMOUS. The ONLY man here is Joe Albero, the guy who puts more on the line each and every day than any one of you teabaggers.
Do tell me what YOU have achieved and I'll let this Blog speak for itself about what I've done over the past 6 YEARS!

Chris Lewis has no credibility and no one follows him because they know he's a nut job and shows up everywhere drunk.
ReplyDeleteHe REALLY DOES NOTHING for local politics!
I am a Sharptown resident and did not know anything about this. Not only is J.T. a looser but the town does NOT Advertise or Promote ANYTHING that it does. It is sad!
ReplyDelete8:28 - unfortunately most of our politicians deserve to be "painted with the same brush" It used to be "We the people" now it's "We the ruling class". They do NOT live by the same rules that they expect us to.
ReplyDeleteJoe - call me a coward if you wish. I don't have the money that you do. I have a family to support. There are some who would try to seek retribution via my job if they knew who was speaking out against them.
There are 16 lots right across the street that are bank owned now, someone could steal them if they tryed.
ReplyDelete10:58am What politicians derseve to be "painted with the same brush," Is ask. Who are the ruling class who do not live by the sames rules as they expect us to.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like you are one angry person with a grudge against government--or you just refuse to see the good some do.
10:13
ReplyDeleteI beg your pardon, but the Fire Department just finished up a successful carnival Saturday evening, and I think the $20,000.00 advertising budget did a fine job of advetising this event.

ReplyDelete1. Davis Ruark
2. Rick Pollitt
3. Wicomico County Council
4. Salisbury City Council (except Cambell & Cohen)
5. Frank Kratovil
6. Andy Harris
7. Barbra Mikulski
8. Ben Cardin
9. Barak Obama
Shall I continue?
In the last 3 months I have seen Salisbury spend HUGE amounts of money on unnecessary furniture and other perks. Why? Because the end of the budget year was at hand. "Spend it or lose it" That's the government mentality.
I love that the "Tea Party's" greatest enemy seems to be, well- itself .
