Smith X Shields = Stupid Squared

Unbelievable, Folks, unbelievable! Oasis Car Wash owner bounces multiple checks with the city and Louise Smith and Shanie Shields want to be "compassionate" and "business friendly" by letting this guy float a loan with the city for the capacity fees he owns. Let's not get into a discussion of whether the fees are good or bad for right now. You know how I feel about them. But they are there and everyone who sets up shop and uses capacity has to pay for them.

Every business that DOESN'T have a big water use does NOT have to pay big capacity fees. So why did this guy go into a water intensive business if he couldn't pay for it? (Sure, sure, he had a problem with the equipment, but his beef is with the maker of the stuff, not the city.)

Louise and Shanie want you and I to pay for his bad business judgement instead.

I think every business out there ought to stop paying its bills to the city, then tell Louise and Shanie they want a city bailout just like this guy. Show us some "compassion," Shanie, we're ALL struggling!

News flash to Louise Smith and Shanie Shields: If you make all of us who are doing it right subsidize all those who don't have a clue, you'll put us all out of business. Then who will pay for all these freebies and community centers you want when the guv'mint is broke because there's no one left to foot the bill? Even as fast as the feds are printing money, $10 bills are not raining down from heaven.

As Forrest Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does."

Welcome to the Democratic Party and to the Amercian Welfare system, does this parallel it or what. It is the exact SAME THING!!!

  3. Just say "no" Louise and Shanie. Remember the promises that growth would pay for growth?

    ReplyDelete
  4. this would be starting a bad trend. if they do it for one business, they'd have to do it for every business... otherwise, that would be discrimination.

  6. Great post, JOe!!!!!!!!!!!

I watched last night and I couldn't believe what I was hearing either!!!

I just about sprayed my coffee all over my screen reading this. You are dead on and hilarious too!!!!!!!

If only it was hilarious that these two council people can be so stupid. No wonder Salisbury is in a world of hurt.

  7. When will the city of salisbury go broke, oh they will just when.
I ask because i would truly like to be there so i can laugh at all those stupid axxhzzz who think they know how to run it.
Oh and dont help anyone with anything , make the guy pay his own bill or put him out of business, i wonder who is next?

  8. I wonder if the other two proposed this you would be as upset? However you are right to be upset. This is why the city government sucks. It's in the welfare business, social and business.

  11. Add Ireton to the mix and make it Stupid Cubed. Why would he and his people even bring something like this to council and what took them so long? And how come the Daily Times and Joe Albero looked at this Oasis guy's court history but Ireton and his great legal minds didn't???????????

11:43...huh???? The "other two" not only didn't propose it and they wouldn't either but they were the ones who pointed out what's wrong with this picture, so why would you even say that? Thank God for those other two or else this scam would have gone through and even you agree that it's wrong wrong wrong!!!!!

  12. This person can not pay the bank or other creditors. How could the city think they would get paid? Look his name up on the MD judiciary case files. It has a long list for him.

  13. Joe:

Thank goodness for this blog and for Ms. Cohen and Ms. Campbell on the Council. While I wish Comegys no ill, it is probably good that he was absent last night or it would be another 3-2 defeat of the public interest.

He looked silly with that stupid All American City tshirt on. I noticed that Lore Chambers had hers on, but she immediately covered it up with a black jacket. As much as I despise her she is smart enough to play the game and cover up as soon as she can.

Barrie Tilghman made a proud statement that they had finally opened the Oasis Car Wash next to Sam's Club and let me tell you Ladies & Gentlemen, I'm there quite often and there's rarely anyone there. The first few days they opened they had stragglers here and there but since then, I haven't seen a single car use that facility. I wouldn't be surprised if they get into the Enterprise Zone too. From the looks of it, I'd say this is going to be a very short lived Car Wash under this ownership anyway.

  19. Post worthy of a comment:

    Correcting The Daily Times, again!

Today’s article about Salisbury’s “capacity fee” dispute with the Oasis Car Wash states that the fee is paid “by businesses”. Actually, that is correct, but very misleading because it clearly implies that the fee does not apply to residential development.

The capacity fee, which was imposed five or so years ago to obtain money to upgrade the sewer and water systems, is paid for both residential and commercial development that adds to the demand for that infrastructure. At present, the fee to build a new home is $8,500; although paid by the developer, it is passed on, driving up the cost of housing in the City as opposed to homes in the County.

Obviously, the capacity fee tends to reduce both residential and commercial development in the City. The capacity fee was a major reason why the microbrewery that wanted to locate in the old train station decided to go to Delmar instead.

  21. 1:33, i agree. cohen and campbell are so intelligent and you can tell their only agenda is to make good decisions for the people.

if i had not watched pac14 and seen that crazy discussion about funding a deadbeat car wash owner i would not have believed it.

i also agree with 12:07. what was jim ireton thinking? did being nice get us a working wwtp? what about that costly bricks project? is he still trying to shove contaminated property down our throats? where does mr ireton think the money is coming from?

this is not the democratic party i signed up with 44 years ago. what about us middle class middle of the road folks?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is Jim Ireton really behind that criminal Hitchcock? Did Ireton really want the city to float the loan for him?

    ReplyDelete
  23. For the sake of God will someone please start a Recall Petition on those lunatics?

This city cannot take another 3 years of Barrie Liarton!

  24. Do you think I could receive "compassion" if I cannot pay my water and sewer bill, or my city taxes?

    No, didn't think so.

Can't even sell my beautiful home because it is in the city. Yes, maybe I could give it away - not sure.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If Shanie and Louise is so worried about "compassion" then what happened to their compassion when they voted against a local home owning, taxpaying resident of the city for a department head position?? They treat criminals and deadbeat outsiders better than they do city homeowners. No wonder decent people don't want to live in this hell hole ghetto.

  26. Now I see where Shanie gets all her compassion for the non-bill paying, check bouncing deadbeat from:

  27. Because Shanie Shields is no stranger to the courts she should have reclused herself from voting on this issue. Deadbeats support other Deadbeats.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The mayor had to support this if his staff spent time on the arrangement and brought it to council, right?

I really don't know what so say. It's astonishing that this city treats law abiding citizens badly but makes deals with deadbeats, people who want to dump contaminated property on it or rundown buildings.

Maybe the mayor should stand at the start of the city limits on 50 or 13 with a torch and a book and a crown with a sign that says "Bring me your liars, cheats and thieves" instead of your tired, poor, etc.

How frustrating this must be for the two councilwomen who have a brain.

How frustrating to you think it is for this law abiding, tax paying, homeowning resident who keeps getting screwed by Ireton, Shields, Comegys and Smith! I will soon be putting my home on the market with my realtor and looking for a home in the county. Have fun with the slum lords and the criminals. Buh Bye Thieves!!

What a sad, sad world this is turning out to be

  34. The man should get a business loan from a finacial institution. If he cannot do that, then the County should take approriate measures, and that is not "loaning" him the money, either.

  35. This is what happens when you elect those with the Chicago, Union, Thug, Corruption mentality that the Dumbocrat party has.
You think your voting in a friend that will bend the rules for you, and you wind up with morally corrupt power brokers that bend and twist the rules to the point that there aren't any rules anymore all the while becoming richer and more powerfull at YOUR expense!

  36. Many of you are making this about the national picture again or about fees in general.

This is about stupid people locally running your government and because you just b*tch on a blog and let Joe and a couple of decent officials do all the heavy lifting, you're losing your a$$es.

Get out there and back the good guys for once. Stop hiding.

Glad I don't live in your town, but not because of the usual reasons. I have never seen such a bunch of people with a good thing sit back and let it get run into the ground.

But Joe, this is one of the FUNNIEST headlines and dead right posts you've ever done!

I caught this part of the meeting on PAC14 and told my wife I was going to quit my job, start a failing business and go get me some of that "compassion."

She told me if I was that stupid, she'd divorce me, LOL! When I saw this headline and post, I died laughing and showed it to her. Then she died laughing.
