First Lady Michelle Obama brought renewed energy to the NAACP on Monday, delivering the keynote speech at the annual convention one day before the nation's largest civil rights group is expected to condemn what it calls racist elements in the Tea Party movement.
The nation's largest and oldest civil rights organization will vote on the resolution Tuesday during its annual convention in Kansas City, Mo.
In her speech, the first lady focused on the issue of childhood obesity and her "Let's Move" initiative, but outside of her remarks, anti-Tea Party activism has been a key focus of the gathering, which conservative leaders say is driven solely by a political agenda.
Tea Party members have used "racial epithets," have verbally abused black members of Congress and threatened them, and protestors have engaged in "explicitly racist behavior" and "displayed signs and posters intended to degrade people of color generally and President Barack Obama specifically," according to the proposed resolution.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, in coordination with 170 other groups, including labor unions, is planning a protest march in Washington, D.C., Oct. 10 as the next step in building momentum against the Tea Party.
The "One Nation" march is designed as an antithesis to the Tea Party, and it's about "pulling America together and back to work," McDowell said.

Seems odd to me that the NAACP did not stand up against the outrageous comments made by the leader of the New Black Panthers regarding the killing of white babies!! They seem to pick and choose what is deemed racist behavior. Actually, in my opinion they only see racism when it is aimed at blacks. Martin Luther King has to be rolling over in his grave at what the NAACP now stands for. As far as the Tea Party, their concerns are what is happening to this country with this crazy socialist president and whether he is black, green, or purple makes no difference.
ReplyDeleteThese people are desperate-- their only hope is to play the race card and gin up a race war.
ReplyDeleteEven many black folk are now seeing how the country is being destroyed (not that they couldn't see it before-- they just didn't want to).
The NAACP is going down hill. People have watched the National Party leaders make big paychecks while the workbees voluteer. Another prime example of money over all. The advancement of Who ? Those at the top. This new generation only knows money and violence.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed of NAACP of today. Michelle sure seems to be feeling the pinch. Thousands of dollars on clothing and jewelry. Traveliing all over the world promoting her views on America. I would like her to walk in a real African Americans shoes for one day !!
I trust in God not the Obama'a or the NAACP.
If she wants a race war lets give it to her !
