MR. CORNBROOKS: OPEN YOUR EYES!

The Daily Times recently published commentary by Salisbury attorney Ernest Cornbrooks on the quality of candidates running for local office this year. He finds them to be a pitiful lot of “career politicians,” which he apparently considers lower in esteem than even lawyers, and “those who want power and control.” He claims that there are few exceptions, but does not identify anyone by name.

Perhaps he is not aware of the candidacy of Michael James, Joseph Ollinger, Matt Maciarello, the late Sam Vincent, Bob Culver, Matt Holloway, David Goslee, John Baker, Tom Taylor, David Cowall, Seth Mitchell and John Phoebus, to name some of those seeking office who have never held one. And there are those who have but hardly are “career politicians”, such as John Cannon, Bob Caldwell, Mike Lewis, Joe Holloway, Gail Bartkovich, and Stevie Prettyman, among others.

Mr. Cornbrooks reiterates, as “best advice”, old and trite put downs of the citizens who run for and serve in public office, which he attributes to local luminaries now deceased, but which have been in the public domain for decades if not a century or longer. Those are followed by his sly assertion that candidates who prevail in the election process “probably have character flaws which disqualify them from holding the offices they seek.”

He concludes by suggesting several reasons why “we don’t have higher quality candidates” without mentioning the character assassination that they get from persons such as Mr. Cornbrooks himself, who seems to relish in trashing those who run for or hold a local office by his rhetorical invective and innuendo that the Daily Times also appears to relish.

We have recently interviewed many of the local candidates and find them to be public-spirited and motivated to serve the public interest. We invite Mr. Cornbrooks to watch those proceedings, which are and will continue to be posted on this blog. If he is too busy writing rants and tirades about the current candidates to do that, perhaps he could discuss in the Daily Times the faults or “character flaws” that he finds in those candidates named above, for starters, and tell the public which of them wants or craves “power and control”.

  1. You have to remember that Ernie Boy was a regular contributor to Duvafiles and Charles Janice's blog.

Also don't forget is illegitimate offspring Skippy Boy is slopping off the public troughs under Ireton and past Mayor DingleBarrie!!

  2. IF Mr Cornbrooks wants the most educated and civic minded person to run for office why dont he put his name in the hat? Someone with his attitude no one would vote for him. I guess Mr. Cornbrooks does not have a charcter flaw!
I have NOT seen anywhere where he has been named lawyer of the year.

  3. Quailty and beauty , as they say , is in the eyes of the beholder.
I guess he thinks the shore is still the $hithouse of Maryland.

  4. Only a rag newspaper like the Daily Times would continue to spread his pompous pontification.

  6. It's tough work, but somebody has to help Greg Bassett sling mud. How much does he pay this barrister to do that?

  7. He and is son are both aligned with Barrie Tilghman and that dirtbag Paul Wilber. That's enough for me not to like the idiots.

  10. 11:50, the comment about Cornbrooks' son is totally out of line. I know nothing about the son, but calling people "illegitimate" is uncalled for.

1:19, kicking them all out is unfair. We have some good public servants. If we got the bad ones out, those good public servants could get something real done. If Tim Spies had gotten elected instead of Gary Comegys, think of the money that could have been saved with the fired department not getting their every whim, like stupid fireboats to catch terrorists from one end of the bay to another when Salisbury can't staff its ambulances.

I'm as mad as hell as anyone, but be sensible, get informed and vote.

  15. You may disagree with what he says, but Ernie Cornbrooks is by far one of the most able trial attorneys on the Shore. To call him a dirtbag is just awful. Shame on you 4:48!

  18. Mr. or Ms. 5:23 . . .

Being a good ("one of the most able") trial attorneys on the Shore sure ain't saying much, and it does not make him a good person.

  20. Cornbrooks is an odd bird. He's a control freak who married this sweet, but somewhat doofy and submissive secretary on his second marriage so he could be the unquestioned king of the manor.

Cornbrooks is all about minimal government, but he is too scared to get off his duff and run himself, because people might challenge his pronouncements, and that makes him wet himself.

Conrnbrooks is all bark and skunk spray. When he wants to run himself I'll take him seriously.

  22. Cornbrooks is very conservative. His remarks often times are similar to the late Buckley in their presentation.

Surely readers of this blog are capable from an intellectual stand point to agree or disagree with an individual's opinion without vile personal attacks.

May be this is not the case, and the majority of the readers and respondents are lacking in this area.

  24. To Ernie and Skippy, I have no respect for either of you two. You people speak of "minimal government" being conservative however you continue to rape the tax payers by misalligning yourselves with Barrie Comegys and Louise Liarton.

You made your bed now lie in it!
