A Letter To The Editor

John Phoebus vs Residents of Somerset County

Some persons, other lawyers no doubt, may believe that it’s perfectly fine to argue for something that would devastate a neighborhood, but it is astounding that attorney Phoebus would do this to residents of the district which he wants to represent in the House of Delegates. His client wants to have another borrow pit operation next to residential homes on Millard Long Road.

The zoning approval was appealed to the Somerset County Circuit Court, which has just sent it back to the board because Maryland’s environmental agency has not been contacted for advice. We still don’t know what the outcome will be. But imagine what the outcome might be if Phoebus were a member of the General Assembly, which approves the pay of the judges and funding for that agency.

It could be déjà vu all over again for the good old boys of Somerset County. Old timers recall the days when HP was "the man to see".

  1. He is a lawyer representing a client. Lawters represent murderers, rapist and thieves, just because we don't like their clients does that make them ineligible for public office. I think not.

  2. Johnny is fair as they come. He's up front and extremely knowledgable. I will be proud to vote for Johnny for H.O.D.

  3. Also look at the relationship between Phoebus and that Cristy Hickman, that alone tells me he will not get my vote!

  4. There are to many lawyers in Annapolis and Washington now. Let's send some average people up there, they can't do any worse than what is in place now.

  5. HP is not JP and vice versa. The eastern shore mentality of making the decendants pay for the sins of the father/grandfather is as outdated as the Desoto car. Move into the 21st century and let the past stay in the past, you can't change it and you certainly can not hold anyone responsible for what their ancestors may or may not have done.

You are correct but you missed the point completely.

Many lawyers opt not to represent criminals, and I'm surprised that Phoebus did not decline this case because of the effect the borrow pit will have on that area of the County. It makes you wonder about him, and I'll be voting for John Cannon.

  8. 11:49, I doubt you would say the same about George Bush. I can hear you now "like father like son".

  9. First, as stated he's a lawyer, he represents the client that pays him. You make it sound like someone wants to put an industrial park in the middle of Nithsdale. Last I checked there were no major subdivisions on Millard Long Rd. plus most "barrow" pits are just holes in the ground with two pieces of equipment and an old dump truck around here. Don't try to smear this man's reputation on past history or trivialities that are blown out of proportion. I guess you want to fault him for all the cases he is assigned from the public defenders overflow too?

  10. Johnny P. is caught in front page photo of county paper as a supporter of a Democratic candidate, yet he is running as a Republican. A RHINO even before elected?
Then there is the Hickman connection.

  12. Wow! How funny is it that this article follows one containing "no negative remarks about John Wayne Baker" Biased, much??

  13. Its another good ole boy network. He is an attorney to start with blend that with a little gravy train government environment and so you have another sneaky blood sucking web.

    verification word "polips"

  14. Hey 2:39, I noticed that big smile on Johnny P's face standing next to the newly elected democratic mayor PJ Purnell in Crisfield. If he supports democrats we might as well elect a democrat to the house. Politics is a tough game and you don't need to be fraternizing with your enemy. Tell us more about his cozy relationship with the Dem States Attorney Krisy Hickman 11:02.

  15. How can you vote for a fellow that tells a man, supposedly his friend, who is very sick with cancer, he's going to run against him. Patience would have better served Mr. Phoebus and let Delegate Elmore back out of the race first. He would have still had plenty of time to file!

Just another Phoebus looking out for himself. Wonder if he'll park that Mercedes and get an old Ford to drive door to door and ask for people's vote?

Don't even get me started on the Kristy Hickman connection. That's his girl! She's married, does he have a wife, a girlfriend? Is he a family man?

He is constantly tallking about Bob Ehrlich, Bob Ehrlich, Bob Ehrlich... For my Delegate Vote I want to hear about the candidate, not all the names he can drop!

    Ask the questions people!

  16. This here ain't nothin' but Albero not knowin' what pot to jump in, so he writes his self a letter (to the editor, which is his self), figgurin' he'd either get enuff dirt - or enuff good comments to make his self sound informed on John Phoebus. There was this here article in the local newspaper this week, so the letter (to the editor) is stale news.

  17. most lawyers that go to sommerset are at the bottom of the list. my neighbor is one of them. he told me that hot dog ( the judge)could get anything he wanted if things weren't right. this attracts many lowlife lawyers , so , you get what you got. even the courthouse is crooked , everybody who works there is related , half are married to cousins and relatives , reminds me of the sticks in west virginia. good luck , i hope some black guy runs without any education. he will win!! there are still some widdowsons left , and they need to be removed , anyway possible.

  18. If you've never met John P. like him or not if you have a problem thats not being heard he will be heard and will not stop until everyone against just surrenders. As for John P. and Kristy H. hanging out they are both lawyers in the same county MORON!!

  19. I feel like most do in this post.

The 'lawyer' mentality is such a predatory nature that I personally do not believe it would be prudent for the people to elect yet another lawyer to represent our people here on the easternshore.

  20. Anonymous 8:17,

You are an idiot. Let me help you out.
    1. Attorney's are not assigned to a specific county.
    2. John Phoebus can practice in Somerset, Wicomico, or anywhere in the state of Maryland.
    3. Do some research and find out how many people are actually related in the courthouse. FYI there is more than one courthouse.
    4. Sommerset is actually spelled Somerset.
Finally, I've been a police officer on the shore for 6 years. I've seen all the hot shot lawyers on the shore, and quite a few from the western shore. If I every get in a situation where I need an attorney, it will be John without a doubt. When he gets elected, I have no doubt he will be just as successful in the house as he is practicing law.

  21. True but I read that the person who started the dirt pit controversy was let go from the planning or appeals board. Guess who was commissioner President when that change was made?

    ReplyDelete
  22. We don't need any more Phoebus' representing the shore. The fella hasn't worked a hard day in his life. The people need to be represented by honest, hard working, family oriented individuals which most lawyers don't fall under ALL of those requirements.

Of the People, by the People and for the People I say! We have enough lawyers in Annapolis, now we need some "down to earth" people to represent us and straighten out the over-educated Annapolis Bourgeoisie!

Don't forget Mr. Phoebus' love affair with Democrats in and pursuing office. Ever heard of RHINO? He was tending bar with Mr O'Malley last year in Crisfield.

    "Stay in Crabtown Johnny Boy!"

  23. Somerset County is dirty. If you hold a position of authority or power you, and those close to you, can do whatever the hell want without fear of consequence. The powers that be are above the law there. Someone should expose these frauds for whom they are...
