Why do we need an immigration plan? Why is it so hard for us to use the one we have? It seems quite simple to me.
First thing to do is secure our borders so that nobody can enter our country with out the legal authority to be here. If someone who wasn't born here wants to come here, then they should apply for the correct visa.
There are 31 types of visas to come here on a temporary basis. Visit this web page http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1286.html to see which one applies to you. If you would like to become an American citizen, visit this web page http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1326.html and you have the information on how to do this. If you would like more information about becoming a US citizen, go here http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=02729c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=02729c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD
We already have laws for people to legally come to our country. If people don't want to come here this way, then they are breaking the law. If they are breaking the law, they should be arrested and prosecuted and deported. If they don't want to follow our laws for coming here legally, what makes you think they will follow the laws once here?
Why is it so hard for our politicians and fellow Americans to understand this? It seems quite simple to me.
We don't need any new laws or policies on immigration. We need to close our porous borders and evict the people who don't respect our country, our constitution, and our way of life. The people who want to come here legally should be taught what our country's laws and values are. They should learn our language and they should assimilate to our way of life.
I'm an American. I'm an American. I'm an American. What are you?
There is a dearth of talented, hard working individuals that would like to come here and help build America as well as companies that need these talents, but the current process creates a log jam that locks these people out. It is this log jam that needs to be fixed/streamlined while we shut off the job market for those hear illegally.
ReplyDeleteWhich American “way” should they assimilate to? Yours? Mine? African American? Japanese American?
ReplyDeleteAs long as an immigrant enters the country legally and learns enough of the English language to survive – why should they have to become like you? Besides, even if a legal immigrant did completely assimilate to your way of life you would never accept him/her as equally American.
"Besides, even if a legal immigrant did completely assimilate to your way of life you would never accept him/her as equally American."
ReplyDeleteJust as many of our forebears were when they came from every European nation. With the exception of the British Isles, the home language wasn't English. They learned the language and passed it on to the next generations.
There is a culture that is distinctly American. It's not Japanese American, Polish American, Chinese American or African American. It is a mix of many, with roots born in America's geography, capitalism and a plethora of other factors, including what immigrants brought with them to their new home. It's a fluid culture, changed, by those who live in it.
Some groups maintain their own culture, while successfully interacting with the American mainstream culture. Some don't.
Many have issues with those who don't, particularly when they flaunt the law (for whatever reason) and become an overwhelming burden on those who are here legally, who feel that they should be protected by the laws.
Yes, we have laws allowing some people to come here legally. But our laws don't allow enough people to come here legally. Until you increase the number of work visas and introduce a workable guest worker program, you are going to have people sneaking across the border. These people don't spend days in the desert because they think it's a fun way to come here. They do so because there is no legal way for them to get here.
ReplyDeletePass all the laws you want to secure the border, you'll never pass legislation that will repeal the law of supply and demand. There is a demand for labor here and a supply of it south of the border. No human legislation can stop the two from coming together.
And this may seem simple to you, Mardela, but it's only because you don't know much about how hard it is to get a visa to work here, especially if you are a low-skilled worker.

ReplyDeleteThat statement "assimilate to our way of life" means to follow our country and state laws. If you moved to Japan or a country in Africa, you would have to assimilate to their way of life AND have to learn their language to survive as well. Don't be so touchy.
there are legal means to enter thye country, use them.
ReplyDelete12:44 ... According to my good friend Webster, assimilate is defined as: "to absorb into the culture or mores of a population or group". Perhaps you should call and give him your definition also, he might not be so touchy
ReplyDeleteIt is a very simle solution , obey the law , how easy is that?
ReplyDeleteIf you are a democrate , then we must have a mile of red tape and every excuse to let the criminals in the country.
I say shoot em at the border!Mexico is crowded anyway.
To 2:22 -- since the law doesn't allow for people to be shot for misdemeanor offenses (you do know that entering the country is only a misdemeanor, right?), then you aren't being consistent. You are advocating murder, which is against the law.
ReplyDeleteI always love it when you hear people talk about the rule of law and then go on to say we should murder people crossing the border. Obviously they don't really care about the law, they just want dead Mexicans.
Amen! Unemployment wouldn't be so low if "people" weren't here illegally! "They took our jobs!"
ReplyDeleteWhich jobs have the illegals taken around here that you would want?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't matter what jobs they would have taken. Crossing to border without going throught the proper channels is ILLEGAL. Illegal. Look it up. I don't care what anyone thinks. If you shoot a few of them, many others may think twice. There are armed citizens in AZ right now walkng in patrols in the 80 mile "buffer" established by the warning signs waiting to be confronted by a groups of armed mexicans carrying drugs or protecting mules. They are armed with shotguns, bolt action rifles, ar-15's, mini 14's, and ak-47's. If they come across those here illegally they will notify the authorities. If the mexicans level their weapons at them, they will still notify the authorities - of the locations of their remains.
ReplyDeleteThe local militias are out on patrol. They are prepared to put it all on the line to fight against these foriegn invaders.
I think we should look at other countries and their policy on immigrants. I had a friend that moved to New Zealand...you would not believe what she had to go thru to be approved to live there. First and foremost...she had to show that she had a job to support herself! Imagine that...let's try that here!
ReplyDeleteThere are 11 Million people here illegally. I think that says enough.
ReplyDeleteactually, the data shows that illegals actually have a slightly net positive impact on job growth by increasing demand for goods and services
ReplyDeleteIf they would crack down on illegals, this would create jobs. When jobs become available, CUT OFF Welfare & unemployment benefits. No exceptions just do it. All of the system draining slackers would have no choice but to get off their lazy a$$es and work. Problem solved!
ReplyDeleteAnd 1:17, just why should we allow more work visas?? So more foreigners can have what little jobs there are? Idiot!
To give blanket amnesty to all the ILLEGAL imigrants is an insult to all of our ancestors who came thru the legal channels. They learned our language, they learned our laws, they learned our constitution and were proud to do these things and so much more.
ReplyDeleteThey understood what a great opportunity it was to work hard and earn the right to be an American. They didn't come here and ask for handouts just because they made it across the line. They didn't try and change the laws and take over local, state, and national offices so they could make things to their liking, ingoring what was already inplace and trampling on the flag that they fought so hard to keep.
It is not just "Mexicans" that are crossing into America. There are terrorist, spies, drug smugglers and criminals of the worst kind.
Do we think that a city in Arizona has the second highest kidnapping rate in the world because of US citizens?
Don't think because the crime and the burning and trampling of the American flag isn't happening in your neighborhood that it doesn't exist.
There are Mexican groups right now trying to bring in as many people as they can in order to take back what they beleive is their land.
If you think that illegal imigration is just about mom, dad and little son and daughter trying to come and get a good job and secure a good living, then you live in a world with blinders and ear plugs. That might be 10% of them, but the rest are here to either take what we have as a handout, or take what we have thru crime and force.
Wake up, your not in Kansas anymore.
Not to mention the drain on the education and health care system in this country.
ReplyDeleteIt must be nice, Mardela, to live in a world where you can express an opinion free of any facts to back it up. I don't doubt you sincerely believe what you write, but your opinions aren't based on any factual evidence. If you care to look at it, crime in Arizona has dropped in recent years. Once they are here, illegal immigrants commit less crime than do others in the population. Illegal immigrants don't get "handouts" from the government since they aren't eligible for Medicaid, food stamps, TANF, or other things. Pretty much everything you say is refuted by simply looking at a few studies of the issue.
ReplyDeleteThink what you want. But before you write next time, please do some research. I'd be happy to provide links for you to look at, but it seems whenever I do provide links my comments never get posted.
