GOVERNOR O'MALLEY TO ANNOUNCE PLANSTO CONTINUE BUILDING MARYLAND'S #1 RANKED SCHOOLS

Governor will join with elected officials, teachers, parents and studentsfor important announcement

Baltimore, MD - Just days after being recognized by the National Education Association for his commitment to Maryland's public schools, Governor O'Malley will outline his plan to continue reforming Maryland's public schools and provide every student with a world-class learning environment.

Today, Governor O'Malley will be joined by Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, Speaker of the House Michael Busch, Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen, teachers and students and educational professionals.

Over the last four years and during some very difficult economic times for our nation, Governor O'Malley and Lt. Governor Brown have invested $1.27 billion in public school construction. This funding came at a critical time in our state's history, more than doubling Maryland's investment in public school construction after four years of chronic underfunding.

In late 2005, then Mayor O'Malley announced his plan to address what the Kopp Commission described in 2004 as a "crisis in school construction" in front of temporary, portable, learning shacks outside of Germantown Elementary School in Annapolis. Today, a new school for the students of Germantown Elementary School is currently under construction.

1411 Cedar Park Road
Annapolis MD 21401
