I learned here recently as a first time home buyer what a nitrate is...just in case some of you don't, they exist in our water especially here on the Eastern Shore b/c of fertilizers. Get your water tested once a year to make sure you nitrate level is where it should be. It's not something you taste but something that can have adverse health effects especially on children under the age of 6 months, can cause death "Blue Baby syndrome". Adults can have blood poisoning type problems and ruptured spleen and more...I'm not a doc, just a first time home buyer. Funny joke though:-) That's what I would have said about 3 months ago, just kidding:-)
Nitrates is why the Shores cancer rate is so much higher then the rest of the nation. Thanks to Perdue/Mountaire, and all those lovely farmers who spread manure. If you plan on putting in a well, make sure it's deep. Otherwise, you'll probably find a tumor in the near future.
