Many people are concerned about the future of journalism, and how to help it survive. Now the Federal Trade Commission has gotten into the act.
A 36-page FTC “staff discussion draft” has stirred quite a furor. It collects ideas for how to help the media cope with the financial disaster they’re confronting -- including government subsidies.
Sounds like a bad idea, but government subsidies are nothing new for the news business.
