Ehrlich Saddened by Rosecroft’s Closing

Bob Ehrlich today expressed regret that Rosecroft Raceway has announced plans to close permanently on July 1, and said he is saddened by the end of an era in Maryland racing. Ehrlich said he is especially disappointed for the 200 employees who will lose their jobs.

“It’s a shame that these hard working Marylanders will soon be out of work, particularly since the closure of Rosecroft could have been avoided,” Ehrlich said. “Rosecroft’s closure is a sobering reminder of state government’s failure to design a viable gaming program in Maryland. I was proud to introduce a bipartisan plan for slot machines at Maryland race tracks as far back as 2003. Rosecroft would be on much stronger financial footing today had the legislature adopted that plan and had the O’Malley Administration not bungled implementation of its own flawed plan. Maryland’s historic horse racing industry remains at a major disadvantage with neighboring states and Maryland’s unemployment line is getting longer as a result.”

  1. Typical that his main concern is for the few people who might not be employable otherwise RATHER than the thousands and thousands of families destroyed by gambling.
My father spent every dime he could get his hands on at the track, usually Rosecroft, when I was growing up. MY perspective is that there is plenty of gambling to go around, without those tracks "suffering" from whatever is causing them to close. Good riddance.

  2. His main concern is not just a few people. When 200 employees lose their jobs in our state it affects
    everyone.

  4. Ehrlich is wrong because he is concerned about 200 people losing jobs yet Owe Malley is right by spending millions on slot machines for a casino in Perry Hall? Why is the state buying slot machines for a private enterprise?

Where the hell do these people come from?
