Justin Dalles Hits RBI Double In Return to Club
Salisbury, Md. – Lakewood scored three early runs and relied on solid pitching performances to top the Shorebirds, 4-2, on Sunday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The BlueClaws wrap away the series win.
The Lakewood BlueClaws plated the first run of the game in the top of the first. Jonathan Villar hit a one out double. Leandro Castro then singled to put runners at first and third. Then, with Jonathan Singleton batting, Jesse Beal was charged with a balk to plate Villar.
The Shorebirds knotted the game at one apiece in the second inning. Levi Carolus blasted a Matt Way changeup over the left field wall. It was his second home run of the season.
In the third Lakewood took the lead for good. Jonathan Villar hit a one out double. Then, two batters later, Jonathan Singleton cracked a double into left-center field to give the ‘Claws a 2-1 edge.
Lakewood extended their lead in the fourth inning. Brian Gump connected on a lead off triple off the base of the wall in center field. The next batter, Anthony Hewitt, hit a sharp grounder back into center field to pad the lead to 3-1.
The Shorebirds pushed within a run in the seventh inning. Garabez Rosa hit a one out single. Then, Justin Dalles, who played in his first game since May 5, blasted a double to deep center field to score Rosa from first.
Lakewood added cushion in the ninth inning courtesy of a Singleton long ball to right field.
Lakewood starter Matt Way picked up the win in six strong innings. He allowed a mere two hits and one run. Jordan Ellis earned his eighth save of the season in two scoreless frames.
‘Birds starter Jesse Beal was saddled with the loss in seven strong frames. He surrendered eight hits and three runs.
The Shorebirds are back in action on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Bobby Bundy will make the start for Delmarva.
