Ban On Gay Blood Donors Revisited

Groups urge government to lift lifetime restriction

Should gay men be allowed to donate blood? A government health committee is re-examining that question today.

A regulation created at the height of the 1980s' AIDS epidemic banned men who have had sex with another man since 1977 from ever giving blood.

Advocacy groups, blood-collection organizations and some members of Congress are calling for the Food and Drug Administration to revise the lifetime ban, which has been reviewed twice in the past 10 years, but left unchanged.

  2. Isn't the blood screened prior to its use for this type of thing anyway? Its not 1980 anymore, and AIDS is not limited to gay men.If its tested anyway, why do all the homophobes have their panties in a bunch over it?

  4. Being heterosexual does not make you "safer" than any other donor...it amazes me that people still carry these close-minded assumptions.

  5. Another waste of time , revisit something worth while , I can't believe we need blood that bad , especially from them! The HIV virus was born to take care of these misfits , I hope it does.

  6. This is a good idea , lets form a committee in congress and spend and enormous amount of time and money on this stupid issue. Obama this is the change in government activity that we need , like another hole in our behinds.

  7. wow some of you people are morons. They screen blood for a multitude of diseases/disorders well before they start pumping it into you. And, to be honest, there usually is a shortage throughout the country. Just like DADT should be gotten rid of, this archaic law should as well.

  8. Did you know the US does not screen for Lyme's Disease in the blood supply because there is no reliable blood test for it? It acts like syphilis and hides within the cells, so there are seldom any antibodies to detect, which is how most blood tests work. So more than likely, many people are exposed to Lyme's Disease when they receive blood.

  9. 12:41 - "i would refuse any blood if they ever allowed homosexuals to donate.i would rather die than chance getting aids or hiv."

If this is the case, DO NOT accept ANY blood EVER. I'm sure gay people have given blood. If you lie when asked about being gay/having sex with the same sex, then there's no way they could know.

  10. It sounds like to me they are not confident in their blood testing. Now, of course, I'm not surprised by this either!
I wouldn't trust the blood no matter WHO it came from!
There a a lot of cases of hepatitis on the shore and most people are not even aware they are carriers of it.
Some of these people donate blood regularly because they don't know they're positive for it!
Sure, they ASK you if you've ever had this and that but if you're in "carrier" stage, you don't know!
My husband has had hepatitis and is not able to donate blood, marrow, organs or anything. But, he is fully aware he's had hepatitis since it almost killed him!

  11. you homophobics are morons. Blood is Blood and as long as its screened then its fine. You would never know whos blood you recieved anyway. When your laying there dying because you need blood and "they approved homosexuals to give blood" bet you will be thinking twice. and for you who said "they invented aids to rid the world of them" pretty harsh words....homophobics are just insecure in your sexuality thats why it bothers you so much! and no, Im not gay by the way. Married with # kids. and you ones who "hate the gays.." quit watching your lesbo porn! same thing buddy.

  12. to 2:12 regarding Lyme's. true; most dr.'s in this area don't even think to test for Lyme's and to my knowledge no dr. in this area has the comprehensive Lyme's test. there is a Dr. Gubb in Onancock, Va. that has the "in depth" test needed for Lyme's. many of my friends and even relatives have been tested and several of them tested positive. the latest is a 42yr. old female. she tested at stage 3 and is taking treatment now. many people in this area are sick and your dr. can't seem to figure it out. call Dr. Gubb and get your test asap. this is a horrible progressive disease and you must catch it before it goes too far.

  13. Anon 3:43, we were tested in another state by a leading researcher in Lyme's after a leading medical center used a lab that didn't use the proper tests and my child kept getting sicker. Research doctor put her on antibiotics and anti-malarials. Antibiotics to get the Lyme's swimming around in the system prior to penetrating the cells, and anti-malarials to get the Lyme's already inside the blood cells. What was your treatment? This was almost 10 years ago, child is fine, grown and no recurrence of the disease.

  14. While it is true that Heterosexuals can also contract aids, and by now many of them have the disease, it is also important to note that the man-made virus was first introduced among homosexual populations in New York City.

    Educate yourself

It says it all. Queers are the largest group of transmission vector for the disease.

  16. 457-It's well established the aids virus first came about in Africa. Eating raw monkey is likely the cause of the jump from primates to humans. Quit being moronic and believing the internet lol.

  17. Blood is not blood. There is gay blood and straight blood. We gay people are born that way its not a choice. I don't want any of that judgmental straight blood either. If a straight man gets a blood from a gay man or woman its scietificly proven that it will affect him. he may not automatically go full oral sex with a man but he will put one in his mouth.

If he continues to receive gay blood him or his yet to be born children will most certainly be gay.
I'm gay and proud of it but its time we admit its nature not choice.

  18. 4:43, i don't personally have Lyme's. but as i stated i know many friends and relatives who have been tested and all in different "stages" of this hedious disease. as of today Dr. Gubb said one of my relatives (by marriage) has the worst case he has seen. it's really affected every part of her body and she's in treatment with the anti-biotics; drugs and diet. another friend was just diagnosed with stage 3 Lymes's and is going through similar treatment. this of course is not short term. the treatment with be on going for quite awhile. we're just very thankful we have stressed to our family and friends and anyone else we can that they MUST get the "good" test. to our knowledge Dr. Gubb is the closest dr. to do the "good" test. again; we are just trying to educate because the local dr.'s don't "get it".

  19. Anon 8:26, yes, my daughter's treatment lasted about a year. This bug can go anywhere in the body and do permanent damage.

  20. 6:34 It is a choice and there is nothing that proves that in your blood or dna is the gay gene. How dumb is that? But it is proven that mostly gays carry the virus so you should be able to understand why most wouldn't want to accept it. And what kind of crap are you reading that if a gay man gets a straight persons blood it affects him? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. And yes they test for it but there are documented cases where they missed something and the person who got the blood contracted whatever it was. Life is about choices, get over it. You chose to be gay and you will have to answer for it.

  21. Homosexuality is a behavior disorder.

It is not inherited, or genetic.

It is taught or mimicked or learned.

It is a choice just like all behaviors.

  22. Aids was a CIA weapon tested on a population in Africa where no body was homosexual, all were monogamous, and they performed no blood transfusions.

ABC found the village and exposed the madness. Everyone in the village had Aids.

Soon afterwards homosexual populations were found with Aids Virus in New York City.

This has been well documented for those who care to know the truth.

Look up people - we are being sprayed!

acts like out government is evil. Like the CIA creates biological weapons and tests them on citizens. Yikes.

The CIA is dedicated to exterminating the Muslim populations of the world. They are there to keep us safe from terrorists.

As for the so-called chemtrails in the sky. They are perfectly normal exhausts of airplanes.

Just because there is a lot of pollution in the air doesn't mean our government is trying to kill us.
