UVA Murder Suspect's Mother Breaks Silence

"I never expected to be in a situation like this."

That's part of the first statement out from Marta Murphy, the mother of George Huguely, 22, the University of Virginia lacrosse player charged with murdering fellow student-athlete and former girlfriend Yeardley Love.

Love was found dead in an off-campus apartment May 3. Huguely was subsequently charged with first-degree murder. In the days after his arrest, disturbing allegations that he'd abused Love in the past came to light

  1. That is what happens when you raise spoiled brats who do not know how to act when they don't get their way.

  2. She probably never expected to be in a situation like this because with their/his power, money and prestige, they were allways able to sweep his past problems away making it so he didn't ever have to be accountable for his actions. The warning signs were there for all the people he spent time with(his parent, friends, fellow lacrosse players, coaches, etc). They turned a blind eye to something that could have been prevented. So many today have been desensitized to this type of behavior, and thats not ok.

  3. 10:12 you are an idiot. This is what happens when people are crazy, or the justice system fails. I guess you presume spoiled kids are the only ones who make such foolish decisions. It is a tragedy indeed.

  4. WTF is it with LAX players? Here, they toss timbers through people's windows. There, they kill. WTF?

  5. UVA and the entire lax world owe it to Yeardly Love to take a step back and take an honest look at what happened. Accountability on the part of teammates, coaches, administration, family and friends is key. Don't ignore it and look the other way. Stop the violence now. The only thing that seems important to these people is how far these teams will get in winning. How very sad to be so narrow minded.

  7. 5:18, I give you a big AMEN!!!!!!

SU, can you hear us now???????????

Your LAX coach was dismissive of what his players did to the nearby neighborhood.

You'll condone anything to protect your national titles.

  8. Joe, I wish you would keep cases like this on the top of your list. You do such a great job at bringing topics like this to the publics attention. Todays youth in colleges and high schools are so desensitized to assault both physical and sexual that its only going to get worse. It's more prevelent than you could imagine, especially here on the shore and in salisbury. Beleive me I know 1st hand. Please, we need your help. The people at organizations like life crisis can only do so much. We need to put stories like this in the light to educate so it doesnt keep happening. Thanks for anything you might be able to do.
