Shorebirds Play Next Eight Games Away from Home
Salisbury, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds fell behind and couldn’t recover as the RiverDogs took the finale, 4-3, on Monday afternoon at Perdue Stadium.
The RiverDogs went in front in the fourth inning. Rob Lyerly started the frame with a double. Two batters later, DeAngelo Mack hit a high fly ball deep to left field that Steve Bumbry dropped on the warning track to plate Lyerly. Then, Emerson Landoni reached on a fielding error by Ty Kelly. He came into score on a double down the left field line by Francisco Arcia.
The ‘Dogs tacked on two more runs in the fifth against Ryan Berry. Ray Kruml hit a leadoff single. After two outs were recorded, Luke Murton connected on his fifth home run of the season to push the lead to 4-0.
The Shorebirds responded in the home half of the fifth. Garabez Rosa hit a line drive to third that was mishandled by Rob Lyerly. T.J. Baxter then reached on a fielder’s choice. With two on, Ty Kelly hit a sharp liner to right-center field that plated both runners.
The Shorebirds pulled within one run in the eighth. Steve Bumbry roped a double to left-center to open the frame. Bumbry moved to third on a single by Tyler Stampone. Then, Mikey Planeta delivered a sacrifice fly to left field to score Bumbry and trim the deficit to 4-3.
Steve Black earned the win for Charleston. He tossed four innings and allowed two unearned runs. Ryan Berry was pinned with the loss in five innings of work.
The Shorebirds play the Kannapolis Intimidators on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
