I think the citizens should know his opinions on 'The Cap', government transparency, fiscal responsibility, PIO, Auditor, and # of council positions...among other things.
Joe is part of the Good Ol Boy network in Salisbury. He would be a mouthpiece for the Greater Salisbury Committee aka The House of Lords Just my humble opinion
Clearly none of you all really know Joe. I have had the opportunity to work with him on many projects. Seen him in action. Excellent Leader, Integrity, Transparency, Honesty...all the above and more.
I am anti-good ole boy. He gets along with everyone.
He is an excellent business man as well. Just what we need! Everyone take a step back and get to know him before you judge. Really, he is just what we need!
To anon 9:26 From anon 9:22. Insightful...wrong gender even, try to offer something of substance. Take a look at Ollinger's resume. I have never seen it but I have seen the ACTUAL work he has done over the last 10 years in our community, as a volunteer. Puts most to shame, including me.
9:26 what have you done for our community? My guess not much. Since you read Sby News maybe you can offer Albero a couple of hours of help to thank him for his free service. OR as I suspect you are just a taker and a complainer trying to be cleaver. The least you can do is wash one of his cars. Make yourself useful. You are one of those that needs to stay busy, with direction of course.
anonymous 10:57, you must be completely out of your mind. First of all, you're too afraid to use your own name. Secondly, Ollinger is partnered up with Alessi and he has no shot whatsoever in gaining the trust of the Wicomico County Taxpayers. No one is THAT sick of Rick that they would elect Joe.
Now, think about this. Where has Joe been these past 4 years, HIDING. He hasn't done anything. He doesn't attend meetings. There's a select few republicans that simply like to get their name out there every 4 years who are not electable. Just because you serve on a Board doesn't make you Executive material.
Now, when they come up with someone I can believe in, believe me, they'll have our support. Until then, Rick Pollitt has yet to see any competition.
Look, you'd have to be a fool to believe Pollitt wants to remove the cap. Besides, a candidate like Joe will tell you anything you want to hear to get elected.
Like I said, where's he been the past 4 years. That shows he's NOT qualified for the job.
You are the one who is bonkers. If Mr. Ollinger promises to keep the tax cap and do away with the public info. officer position, he will get lots of votes, including mine. Pollitt has been a disaster, and now he is withholding budget details from the Council.
We need a competent conservative manager, not a tax & spend liberal like Pollitt, who wants to kill the tax cap. I trust that you agree.
The AFP and T-party people need to get on the Ollinger bandwagon ASAP, because the local Rep. party group is a joke.
How can anyone be worse than Pollitt. He has made horrible decisions for the last four years. It's time to give someone else a chance, they can't be any worse. Don't continue saying "vote out all incumbents" and then when someone files to run start finding fault with them immediately. Give the man a chance to state his position.
A post on this blog a few months ago told how the "PIO" (Fineran) was contacting a local group (NAACP, I think) to promote a "grass-roots" movement to kill the tax cap. Pollitt is his boss.
Ollinger has spoken up quite a few times about fiscal issues. Check the back records of the Daily Times. I've seen letters by him that factually dissect the poor job done by Pollitt on budget issues.
Furthermore, saying that Pollitt doesn't want to remove the cap is delusional. Pollitt would love to see the cap gone, but he knows that politically it is unfeasible. So, no, he won't push to remove it but in his heart (and in his pronouncements) he'd prefer a world where his ability to tax isn't limited.
Instead of blasting someone who is willing to take a step into the thankless pit of politics. Let's give Joe O. and anyone else brave enough to run the opportunity to speak for themselves.
The County clearly needs some business sense. The same ole same ole just doesn't work anymore.
Come on people - let's keep an open mind or else there will never be the kind of change we need to see.
Joe, I have worked for the county for over 20 years. Since Pollitts arrival, we've experience increase living expenses with less pay increases. We've experience reduction in pay, furloughs, excessive unwanted overtime, barely or no cost of living increases, and pay cuts. Tension and low moral is extremely high at the work place. If some of us could afford to quit and look for better employment else where, we would. This county government is in an uproar. It feels like no one in the government wants to do their job. The job that they are getting paid for. Too much finger pointing at one another. We need a budget. This county government had all of 2010 to come up with a fair and descent budget for 2011. But, all they have done is act like children, point fingers and place blame. Pollitt had his time in the county executive position. And, the citizens/employees have gotten nothing but a big ball of manure. We need a leader who can stand up, take charge and fight for the needs of their citizens/employees. It is time for new leadership. Pollitt has not lived up to the people wish to have a safe, secure and fulfiling future for their childrens and their families. The only gruop that has prosper in Wicomico County is that "Good 'Ole Boy" system of things. I do not know Ollinger. However, if he is willing to step up to the plate. Bring Wicomico County back to a functional government and it's glory. We should elect and give this man the opportunity to do the job as the County Executive for Wicomico County. His election can not be worst then what we have had with Pollitt.
Thank you Anonymous 1:05. If we work to destroy every candidate who tries to make a difference (even before we know his platform!), nobody with any merit will ever run.
From what I have heard, Joe O is comfortably retired. I don't think he needs the salary or the ego-stroking associated with the position of County Exec. Maybe he just feels like he can make a positive difference.
Joe's big issue in the past has been moving to a consolidated county government - meaning eliminating the seperate governments for Salisbury, Delmar & Fruitland. Probably a good idea.
1:23 County employee: Before you say you will support someone or give them a chance, first, lets wait and see who else , if anyone, comes forward and runs. Second, you should go to his web site and look at his platform, especially regarding county employees. A lot of what he is running on is not feasible.
You really think this is going to be a close election, Pollitt is going to win this easily. Ollinger doesn't have what it takes to be our County Executive, Rick has done a great job and he will continue to do great these next 4 years. Joe you are right... Ollinger doesn't stand a chance!
Wasn't he the mouthpiece for Alessi when Alessi ran for County Executive?
ReplyDeleteYes, he was. His results will be less than Alessi's.
ReplyDeleteI think the citizens should know his opinions on 'The Cap', government transparency, fiscal responsibility, PIO, Auditor, and # of council positions...among other things.
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout a statement Joe O?

ReplyDeleteWell Mr. Ollinger, why did you post as annon.
"I am anti-good ole boy"
Well Mr. Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThe poster was referring to himself not Joe.
The posters on this site are out of control.
To anon 9:26 From anon 9:22.

IMHO he's the one person who can beat Slick Rick!

ReplyDeleteSince Pollitt is a pawn of the GSC ("House of Lords") what's your gripe.
anonymous 10:57, you must be completely out of your mind. First of all, you're too afraid to use your own name. Secondly, Ollinger is partnered up with Alessi and he has no shot whatsoever in gaining the trust of the Wicomico County Taxpayers. No one is THAT sick of Rick that they would elect Joe.

Ollinger is a businessman; Pollitt is a career bureaucrat.
ReplyDeleteOllinger supports retaining the revenue cap (at least he did when I heard him speak); Pollitt wants it done away with.
Just in those two areas alone Ollinger proves that he'd make a superior county executive than Pollitt.
Look, you'd have to be a fool to believe Pollitt wants to remove the cap. Besides, a candidate like Joe will tell you anything you want to hear to get elected.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, where's he been the past 4 years. That shows he's NOT qualified for the job.

Joe:
ReplyDeleteWhere have you been == Pollitt has been pushing to kill the tax cap for years, but he is now quiet because it's an election year.
All citizens are welcome to run.
ReplyDeleteThat said, Ollinger does not have a chance against Pollitt.
How can anyone be worse than Pollitt. He has made horrible decisions for the last four years. It's time to give someone else a chance, they can't be any worse. Don't continue saying "vote out all incumbents" and then when someone files to run start finding fault with them immediately. Give the man a chance to state his position.
ReplyDeleteJoe do you think he even has a remote chance?
ReplyDeleteJoe:
ReplyDeletePlease stop throwing mud at those who support Ollinger and review his record and Pollitt's.
So Ollinger worked for Alessi. Pollitt has supported O'Malley and probably Glendenning and Phil Tilghman.
The year is a real chance to defeat liberal incumbents with good moderate conservatives, and your rah-rah for Ricky won't help the cause.
Sir:
ReplyDeleteYou said: "Besides, a candidate like Joe [Ollinger] will tell you anything you want to hear to get elected."
What evidence have you to show that Mr. Ollinger has not spoken his mind on matters or altered his statements "to get elected"?
How about a poll -- "question of the day" -- Ollinger or Pollitt!
ReplyDelete11:24-
ReplyDeleteOllinger gets my vote & the spouse's too!
A post on this blog a few months ago told how the "PIO" (Fineran) was contacting a local group (NAACP, I think) to promote a "grass-roots" movement to kill the tax cap. Pollitt is his boss.

After some thought, I'll tell you what. I'll give Joe a shot and be more open minded.

ReplyDeleteThis time Rick is in for a real election. Kudos to Mr. Ollinger.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a tax cap,it's a revenue cap. Big difference.....

ReplyDeletesupporters as a businessman. Hopefully he can bring back manufactuers to Wicomico County.
He's got my vote!
Ollinger one of the more self centered crooks on the planet
