Mayor James Ireton, Jr., announces the dedication of Eastern Shore Drive in Honor of First Salisbury Public Works Director Pete Cooper
Salisbury Mayor James Ireton, Jr. invites the public to join him and Salisbury legend Pete Cooper as the city designates Eastern Shore Drive as “Pete Cooper Way.” The city will honor Mr. Cooper, a graduate of University of Maryland in 1931, designer and builder of bridges in Ocean City, Cambridge and Annapolis. While supervising construction projects in the South Pacific he proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1943-1946. He is responsible for many projects including the 500,000 gallon elevated water storage tank on Edgemore Avenue, constructing many roads familiar to us today such as Riverside Drive, Eastern Shore Drive, Waverly Drive, Carroll Street, paving the entire Downtown Plaza with antique style bricks, the River Walk project, the discovery and development of the Paleo Channel off Naylor Mill Road, and scores of other projects and accomplishments; and as an active member of the Salisbury Rotary Club, Pete Cooper has always given so much of himself back to the community he loves and helped build.
The City also congratulates him on his upcoming 100th birthday in August!
Please, join the Mayor Monday, May 17th at 3:00 p.m. on the corner of South Boulevard and Eastern Shore Drive in the parking lot at Harvest Baptist Church.
Eastern Shore Drive addresses will not change. This is only an honorary designation for Mr. Cooper.
This is a nice gesture BUT are not there more important concerns in Salisbury needing the Mayor's attention.
ReplyDeleteComments like that of 9:50 amaze me.
ReplyDeleteThis dedication is a nice gesture to a man who has given several decades of his life to making Salisbury a better place. The gesture costs practically nothing. If Ireton can't handle a simple ceremony of thanks along with the bigger issues (that we likely agree on) then this city should be immediately evacuated, because we're all going to be FUBAR sooner rather than later.
Stop being a party pooper and let Mr. Cooper have his well deserved, but all to brief, moment in the spotlight. You'll have plenty of time to get your digs into Ireton in the future, show some restraint and see this as what it is: a well deserved at-a-boy to Mr. Cooper.
Pete has given his heart to Salisbury. He took time away from other things for his love, passion, and desire to make Salisbury a better place to live and raise a family. Remember, comment number one, WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES. This comment is not from Pete, he has no computer.
