Correctional Officers Getting Shafted Again

I sent this to "ASK RICK" to get an answer from him before he presented his budget to County Council and have yet to receive a response.

Why is it that only the Officers at the Wicomico County Dept. of Corrections have received an additional pay cut this year and the next year?

Yes all county employees have furlough days taken out of their pay based on their salary. The officers of WCDC also have a six hundred dollar decrease. This comes out of their hazardous duty allotment. Is the Detention Center less dangerous?

Mr. Pollitt you said that their would be no more salary reductions then cut these officers pay with not even informing them. This allotment was done to stem the tide of officers leaving WCDC for other Detention Centers.

It is hard to attract and retain officers and reductions such as this makes it only harder. Maybe the only way to get the attention of council and others is to file a lawsuit for this unlawful action. I do not write this as veiled threat, but as an action that has already been investigated.

I welcome any and all comments to this post.

  2. its easier to cut the people watching the prisioners because they are already in jail. You guys are an easy target. If you cut the front line police officers then it creates a public saftey issue. Sorry for your loss. Atleast you still have a job. Let the cutting begin!

  4. Well if the The Powers to be at the Jail didnt get new the New DROID cell phones (why do the they need the latest cell phone like the Droid is beyond me) must be because they where buy one get one free.....i bet Rick and company aren't taking any pay cuts from their salaries......

    Out of sight-out of mind. The public could care less as long as "THE BAD ONES" are out of sight.
    and Sgts. are forbidden to work overtime which would lessen the burden.

    Yes the officers are glad to have a job, but other agencies are hiring. WCDC is losing their experienced officers which translates into lost money. WCDC is and has always been a training ground for other agencies. A officer who leaves has cost the department 20 to 30 thousand dollars to train them.


    Moral at WCDC is at an all time low. 22 officers down of which funding has only been approved to hire 10 officers. Overtime is a foregone conclusion. Officers are being burned out which increases sick time, which increases overtime. Lts.

  6. Im sorry to hear things for the WCDC officers are getting even worse. I thought when Devenyns left and Mr K. took over, things would improve. Im not blaming Mr. K by any means. Wicomico county citizens should "cut the fat" starting with Pollitt!

  7. Lets talk about the hazzard pay of $1200 per pay period that the "salaried" employee gets at the jail(against handbook policy) while the "salaried employees at the sheriff's department gets none.

    Let's also talk about Matt's little agreement that went on for several years with the security company hired at the jail. You see the direct relationship with the jail employees getting their raises while everyone else doesn't?

    The top dogs are tied deep into the jail. I have an grand idea...lets all put the people who need to be behind the bars over there behind them.

  8. Pork Barrel Ricky and the Seven Dwarfs are amazing. My furloughs will equate to one years groceries or six months mortage, two years of fuel, braces for my buck tooth kid, one year tuition at a local community college, it goes on trust me. Pick the one you would give up out of that group. I guess the kid will be eating corn through a picket fence the rest of his life.

    I do not work with D.O.C. but I do work close by.

    The teachers that educated everyone of these thugs we deal daily feel no financial burden. People like Norm Conway who has done absolutely nothing for the corrections and police in his district. He has taken care of teachers. What do you exspect. Pork Barrel taking of the pig. Norm Conway sucks no ethics once so ever,buy heyt we elected him because when all appeared well we thought he was doing an honest job. Well folk we have a man that has voted for every pay increase that involved he and his spouse both are tied to B.O.E..

    The question is what do you do about it. The answer is simple find common people who have been sick tired of corrupt politics. Beg them to run for council and exec. Then Emergency Service i.e. Fire, Police,Dispatchers,Corrections get their families and friends to the polls rent a bus if need be. Time for a clean sweep.

    The truth is no one cares about corrections. The fact that you deal with crazed,drug addicted, infected people day in and day out.

    All county workers except the B.O.E. and the BIG HOUSE down town have paid for our fathers sins.

    Maybe you should just open the gate and let all animals out. The cops should shut their eyes let the shit fly.

    Well no because we can not do that it is not in our fabric to do so. We would give up our lives first. Wow our lives for the same people that have shit down our necks for the last three years, hell make that twenty.

    There is strength in numbers just ask the B.O.E.

    Corrections and Cops need to join forces. The jail needs to fall under the Sheriff's Office. Get rid of the warden and half his staff. Mike Lewis has plenty of people that could go next door and run that show. It would save a bundle.

    As for all the people we train that leave before being vested. That is a win for downtown also do the math. Wheres the money go.

    Mike Lewis is the most powerful politician on the shore. They have not corrupted him yet. I do not think they can.

  9. Get the facts straight. NOBODY gets "$1200 per pay period" as hazardous duty pay. Nobody wants to get into a war of words with or cause problems between county agencies.

    The Sheriffs Dept. is in a unique position to be able to seize and keep proceeds from arrests. I applaud their use of these funds to buy much needed equipment. Their Officers can also work all the overtime they want at no added expense to the taxpayer. The Detention Center does not have luxury of keeping funds they generate. (work release and weekender fees).

    No amount of bickering is going to solve these problems. One department should be held to different standards and treated differently as to personel. I refer to the officers of WCDC having to work eleven hours of overtime till they are entitled to overtime pay. They are the only department in the county held to this standard.

    Warden K. is making a difference and is upfront with all his employees.

    Here is a good example: The city is cutting the pay of people at the City water plant, but there is some push back on cutting pay for fire fighters. Let's see them put out fires without water!

    It boils down to public perception. People guarding the dangerous inmates just don't have the cache of those that catch them. I'm not condoning this idea at all... just explaining it.

An employee from the detention center most definitely did get hazzard pay......it may have stopped but they 100% most definitely were...thank you very much. Actually it was the one that was accused of the abuse not too very long ago.

  14. 1:12 p.m., right about water and fire. But Campbell and Cohen (the two GOOD ones on that monkey wagon) have pushed back on taking from other employees like the lowest paid.

    Not sure if they got anywhere with Queen Louise in charge. All she cares about is her buddies at PAC14.

    Salisbury has wasted so much. People should rise up.

    Just SLOW YOUR ROLL without effecting security.

    Take.......Your.........Time.......

    Show Mr. Pollitt and others involved who don't see how important your job is, get what they pay for.

    No matter how hard you work. No matter how much overtime you work. Everyday, an officer (Old or New) will quit, retire, resign, or get fired. And, the one's left behind will have to carry 3x the work load plus train the newly hired.

    So, let Pollitt and his cronies get what they pay for without effecting security.

    Or, hire an excellent attorney and file a class action suit against all parties involved.

    Also remember, this problem started way before the "State" took over. Don't forget the past 12 years.

  17. Get Rid of the Deadbeat inmates
    in a uniform, (so called officers)

    so the real officers can do the job

    Fire the extra Major, Kimball (The
    uneeded Col) Roberts (who does Nothing all day) Make the Lazy
    female officers dO their J O B

    Fire the supervisors who condone
    and protect the Lazy females there.

    Raise the P A Y / NO FURLOWS for
    officers, make the county send some
    of that Sheriff money to the jail
    officers. Make the county use some of that 3 million it gets from the Feds to raise the pay of
    CO's who do the work there, (not
    the lazy Co's though) fire them

    Put the Lazy females on Busy Hall, and on Dayshift, where they can't Hide. Too Many on Midnight shift
    Hiding out, for TOOOO long ....

    pay to the street officers,

    plain and simple.

    Fact is, they are Way Behind,
    and this is Not right. Their job is
    much worse, and more dangerous.
    They work unarmed, No G U N ...
    Not many street officers would work in a jail, and they know it.

    today is payday, and surprise,

    the County Lied to us, saying our

    Hazardous Duty Pay would only be

    cut 300.00 , surprise, it was cut

    50% , so it was cut 600.00

    What is up with this Rick Pollitt??

    Our officer Haz Duty Ck should not
    have been touched anyway. You already Got your Furlows from us,
    and you were still not satisfied,
    then, the County lied to our supervsrs telling them only a
    300.00 cut would take place, then
    with No discussion, you take 300.00
    more.....Everyone should QUIT, this

    This County may as well close the jail, because it won't be retaining
    any good officers for much longer.....

    You should not be allowed to impose furlows, we officers came to work here for the amount you
    hired us for, Not for less

    This has started a new trend, that

    male block floor, the l a s t half
    of shift, to do feed up, as the
    males are made to do

    not putting females on the male
    block floor all night, alone, as is
    done to the males

    mngmnt started by putting females
    on male block floors only on first
    half of shift, not the last half
    of shift, and makes the male switch
    with them , from pod to floor,
    to make sure the females don't work
    the last half on the floor,when it
    is busy, and feed up being done.

    now, the new trick is to make the
    males switch with each other from
    pod to floor, the last half of
    shift, on male blocks, to try and
    suggest that everything is fixed
    now, when in fact, it is n o t

    Simple to fix, just treat males
    and females e q u a l
    equal work for equal pay, all night
    all day get rid of deadbeats

    and mngmnt coconspirators who let them be deadbeats, and cover for
    them

    THIS IS COL KIMBALL'S FAULT

    because he is the security chief
    and thus he is responsible for
    proper procedures being in place

    and proper I D's being issued to
    the inmates (color) not B&W and

    the Buck stops with him if one of
    his inmates escapes

    don't blame the peeons under his
    command for No inmate Id's issued
    or improper ID's or procedures,

    to insure the inmates don't get
    Wrongly released or escape

    dark for appx 2hrs
