Animal Cruelty
Incident: Animal Cruelty
Date of Incident: 20 April 2010
Location: 1500 block of May Drive, Salisbury, MD
Suspect: Mark Laird, 20, Salisbury, MD
Narrative: On 20 April 2010 at 4:00 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into animal cruelty that allegedly occurred inside a residence in the 1500 block of May Drive in Salisbury. During the investigation the deputy learned that Mark Laird was accused of placing a cat that belonged to the complainant into the microwave and turning it on. Upon initiating the investigation, the complainant advised that the cat went outside and has not been seen since the microwave and is believed to have possibly succumbed as a result. After meeting with both the suspect and witnesses, the deputy determined that the incident warranted charges being filed.
The deputy completed an Application for Statement of Charges and received a warrant for Laird’s arrest from the District Court Commissioner. On 28 April 2010 the deputy placed Laird under arrest for Animal Cruelty. After processing at the Central Booking Unit and an initial appearance in front of the District Court Commissioner, Laird was released on Personal recognizance.

ReplyDeleteWe need stricter laws for these crimes!! Released on personal recognizance?? UGH
ReplyDeleteIf thats true thats pretty darn sick, and I have no interest in pets what so ever. Nice society we have here, part of it anyway. Or maybe there are two.
ReplyDeleteCollege Punk. No respect. Get ready Fruitland, they're heading this way.
ReplyDeleteThis sick SOB needs to spend some jail time and never *EVER* be allowed around another animal!
ReplyDeleteShould lock him up with only a microwave in the room. Let him wonder when someone will put him into it.? Oh I guess that would be tortue?
ReplyDeleteBasketbkp....that's what I would like to do as well. Maybe we can all take turns!! People who hurt animals like that tend to be violent again...and not just to animals.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sick person. No better than Leggs. Put him down.
ReplyDeletekarma will catch up to him. that is just disgusting and barbaric ! the poor cat couldn't fend for itself if it wanted to. this jerk shouldn't have been released
ReplyDeleteRemember his name, this is the first step to violent crimes against humans.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be seeing more of this asshole!!
Here we go again-----Free to do as he wants-----next time it might be a baby he puts in there! God help us all-----There are no laws to protect anymore & the trouble is ----- The Criminal Knows IT!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a total FOOL! I hope Karma dishes out a good punishment!!!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone considered that the suspect thought he was doing the right thing? I realize it sounds crazy but he's only 20 and thus the product of public education. Microwaves warm. Ovens warm. Electric blankets warm.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's one of those new fangled Code Compliance Officials that got a raise and he's just trying to earn his keep.
Someone this demented should not be let out among other animals and people. The majority of murderers start out by torturing animals. For now, it was a poor cat. Next, it could be a baby. Something is mentally wrong with someone that can do an horrid act like this.
ReplyDeleteI would do the exact same thing to him....put him in a microwave with not a stitch of clothing and let everyone watch as he is "charred" to a crisp.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cruel of him to hurt an innocent cat - he needs to spend some jail time for hurting an animal!
Piece of sh!t! You need your ball sack cut.
ReplyDeleteI'd have no problem if someone put him in a large microwave and turned it on.
ReplyDeleteReleased?! That's F'd up!!!! The first signs of a serial killer is animal cruelty. ..
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste of a human being. Lets put him in an oven and turn it on
ReplyDeleteWTF , sick , sick ,sick, this guy needs his head in a microwave for a very long time!
ReplyDeleteJeff Dalmer started off by cutting off dogs heads and putting them on sticks around the yard. He should have his taint branded and stapled.
ReplyDeleteI've read those who do such things turn into sadistic murderers.
ReplyDeleteBTK did the same thing. this whaco probably got the idea from a movie. (They don't care what they show anymore.)
ReplyDeleteIsn't this was Serial killers do before they're serial killers? for all we know he's probably been doing this crap since he was a kid, just a matter of time before he puts a person in the microwave, for which I'd like to be there to see that one
ReplyDeleteThe eyes, Look at the eyes, they tell the whole story. Sick-o
ReplyDelete1. I dont agree with what he did and i hate hate hate cats.
ReplyDelete2. As far as signs of a serial killer goes, i thought it only counted if you are cruel to animals as a child.
3. He was probably wasted. (not saying that as an excuse)
4. Devils Advocate - I have friends who were jumped last week and the suspects were let go there on the scene. Why should this guy get in trouble for hurting a cat and 'that' guy go free for hurting a human?
This piece of crap has a kid that he has joint custody of.. he was also arrested for underage possession of alcohol. He is from Chester and got a divorce in Oct of 2009. What a great role model. Follow the trail on the judicial website.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the person that said he has gotten a divorce, and has a child.. you should probably get off judiciary case search since you can't read. Mark is twenty.. pretty sure he isn't a divorcee, with a child, and born in 1962.
ReplyDeleteI bet he was joking and the "complainant" is a crazy b.
ReplyDeleteThis guy is my friend and he jokingly said drunk ill put 7th cat in the microwave and his friend the next day made a detailed story (JOKINGLY) and her cat went missing. That day so he got.charged but they found the cat and he is getting off. However he got kicked out of his fraternity and his.name.and reputation is ruined so that's injust. So stop assuming! He's the victim here. Although he shouldn't have said. It to begin with.
