SHANIE SHIELDS SHILLS FOR HER LANDLORD AT SALISBURY COUNCIL MEETING

At Monday’s meeting of the City Council, Ms. Shields’ performance during the discussion of the proposed zoning amendment 9which failed to pass) to allow a veterans’ facility to be operated in a single-family zoning district was totally disgusting. Her landlord, Hebreux St. Fleur, got a building permit for what he told the City would be a single-family home.

Apparently, sometime during the construction of the building, a City official became suspicious that he was really building a boarding house or rooming home and warned him that would be illegal, but to no avail. At some point he made contact with a firm that wants to use it as a group home of sorts for veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. And the rest is now history.

But the public should consider Ms. Shields’ argument in support of her landlord and the deal he wants to do with the firm mentioned above. That Mr. St. Fleur has disregarded the zoning laws should itself be disregarded because the City failed to stop him from doing so; warning him is not enough in Shanieland. Now, that’s not much, if any, different than a criminal claiming to be innocent because the police did not prevent him from breaking the law.

Ms. Shields is an embarrassing disgrace for the entire City of Salisbury. Besides shamelessly shilling for her for her landlord, she directed her vitriol at the members of the Council who oppose the zoning change, suggesting (without actually stating) that they are racists. You see, the property is in her district and the nearby residents don’t object to the veterans’ home, so “nuff said.”

It’s the latest of many outrageous episodea starring Shanie Shields, who should resign from the Council so that her district and its residents can be represented competently and correctly by someone else.

  2. So what's wrong with the house being used to give veterans a home? They have certainly earned it.

  3. It's not zoned for it and the owner/builder knew it. In fact, they were told numerous times, even by Paul Wilber.

  4. 10:39-

It's called zoning, pal, and it applies to all, not just some.

This "deal" is a sham from the get-go, orchestrated by St. Fleur, who has wrapped himself in the flag to try to solve his problem.

BTW, just how much "rent" does Shanie pay him? Probably a lot more after what happened last night.

    Her performance was nauseating,

  6. Louise Smith looked like a cat on a hot tin roof during that discussion.

And when she tried to get her claws on Ireton during the budget discussion, he put her in her place.

  7. Change the zoning, nothing wrong with having a veterans home anywhere. Those zoning folks are just a bunch of unqualified people drawing a salary and producing nothing. Zoning is a good place to lay off more people and save tax dollars.

  8. Joe, I have been waiting for this post all morning. I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing as that drama unfolded. We did everything we could to get her voted out of office, but to no avail. Remember that the people who voted for her are of the same mentality as she.

  9. Didn't Shameless Shields and Louweasel Smith scream about Benedicts wanting to expand their site (for a CVS store) into a single-family neighborhoods last year?

    How two-faced can they get?

  10. St. Fleur wants to rip-off the veterans' disability checks to line his pockets.

  11. That district got just what they deserve when they reelected Shanie over some much better candidates last year.

  12. So what? Change the zoning/law or whatever. It's the LEAST we should do for these Veterans. Get a grip!

  13. They have broke the "LAW" , what don't you understand about that !10:39?

  14. I don't care if it's "zoned" for or not, or even if "they" were told by Paul Wilber. These are veterans, without their service to this great nation we would not have the freedoms we enjoy. They can have a home in that house in my book. They have earned the zone/code variance.

  15. If the zoning laws are amended to accommodate everyone who wants to bang a nail, this city will be in shambles. The law is what it is, so should St. Fleur be exempt because he is an immigrant? This principle has nothing to do with the veterans, it is about the rule of law.

  16. This issue is bigger than the veterans. It is about the rule of law.

  17. If the neighbors are OK with it then variance it and fine the owner.

  18. Back during the days of campaigning, Shields was promised "to be taken care of" for her "co-operation".

  19. Why did St. Fluer lie? He should be made to tear down the structure down at his expense, or move it to a zoned location at his expense.

  21. I believe this is about 50/50 pro and con. However this is about zoning and nothing to do with Veterans. The law is the law and in my opinion most veterans would agree. They protect our freedoms to establish laws that are what best for everyone and not a select group. I'm not a verteran however I did serve 4 years in the military.

  22. I wonder if Shanie needs this project as an accomplish,of sorts, to show for her tenure on the Council, as she has done absolutely nothing else but collect a paycheck.

  23. Shanie made a complete a$$ of herself last nite and without saying the word she was calling people racist. She's probably the biggest one I know - racist that is.

  24. Maybe the cause of this mess is Barrie Tilghman -- she was the mayor when they did the construction of that "single-family home".

    Was the owner a "FOB"?

  25. Mrs. Cohen and Mrs. Campbell seem very knowledgeable and informed about the business affairs of Salisbury. How have they suffered through the antics of Smith, Shields and Comegys all these years? Kudos to both of them!

    You people are so STUPID!!

Are you stupid enough to believe this home will be for veterans? How many men and women do we have in the area that are now fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan? How Many that are from that area and want to rent a room from that thief? Please tell me and I will accept this idea? Who is going to monitor this boarding house to make sure it is for the "veterans" only? Who? Please tell me?

Have you heard about Bait and Switch? You people are stupid, gullible, soft hearted liberals that will fall for anything.

How is that change going for you?

  29. I have read a lot of crap about this subject but I have yet to hear one veteran say this drug and alcohol center was needed in that locale. I have yet to hear one of the 4 homeowners on Collins St say they wanted that in their neighborhood. The only ones that wanted this was Jerry Black who stood to gain financially, St Fleur who stood to gain financially, both by raping the VA for services and Shanie Shields who admittedly receives reduced rent from St. Fleur.

Someone, anyone needs to file an ethics charge against that woman.

  31. St. Fleur, of all people, should be functioning on the honor system, considering that he came from nothing in Haiti.

  32. Whenever Shanie Shields moves her lips, she makes a complete fool of herself. How can anyone who has served on the Council in their second term not have a clue as to the fundamentals of the rule of law of the city government? Oh, I forgot. She collects a paycheck.

  33. To those of you saying to hell with zoning and put the vets anywhere, I got this to say:

    1. Gimme your address. I'm gonna put a garbage dump next to your house. To hell with the law.

    2. I got lots of veterans in my family, including me. You want to pack veterans in some liar's boarding house in a slum, you ain't got no respect for veterans.

I watched the two smart ladies last night. They got it right. Do right by the veterans and families not just one or the other. And obey the damn law. No wonder we got so many criminals here with leaders saying it's okay to break the law.

And Joe, you doing a great job smoking out these tricksters who want to make a buck off us. You keep doing what your doing!

Foregive an old guy's rant but I'd like to see these idiots spend a week in boot camp and get straightened up! They wouldn't last a day of course.

  34. 12:51, if you served in the military, you are a veteran. You may not be a combat veteran, but you are a veteran.

Signing up to serve comes with not knowing whether you will see combat or not but knowing you will go and serve if sent.

Good enough in my book any day!

  35. I LOOK AT THE GOOD PEOPLE OF SALISBURY CALLING OTHERS CROOKS,LIARS AND THIEVES,I AM SO GLAD I DON'T LIVE IN YOUR COMMUNITY. I ALWAYS KNEW THAT POLITICS COULD GET VERY DIRTY BUT THIS IS THE MOST SHAMEFUL THING I HAVE READ. IF YOU THINK THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKS THEN HAVE THEM INVESTIGATED. RUMORS ABOUT THINGS ON THE STREET WITHOUT PROOF ARE SMEAR TACTICS THAT ARE UNBECOMING TO YOUR COMMUNITY. SO SORRY THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT EVERY VETERAN OUT THERE IS DOING SO WELL THAT THEY DON'T NEED HELP, JUST LIKE THOSE I SAW ON THE STREETS OF BALTIMORE TODAY. BELIEVE WHAT YOU WANT YOU WILL ANYWAY.

  36. Someone touched on a good point earlier...how would anyone be sure only veterans were housed there? How do we know it wont become some kind of halfway house, not good for a family neighborhood.

    ReplyDelete
  37. This would be an an accomplishment of sorts for Shields as she hasn't anything for her constituents in District 1, however she knew where to find every one when she was campaigning. The love of money is the root of all evil.
