Salisbury Festival Is This Weekend

While I have received several messages asking me about the details on the Salisbury Festival, the Chamber of Commerce has not provided this information to Salisbury News.

That being said, (for now) you're on your own. Considering this event costs the taxpayers some $300,000.00 a year, giving out the details is clearly the last thing on their mind.

They're calling for rain showers Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I did notice in today's Daily Times article about this event, no details were provided there either. Not on line anyway.

  3. I was told the Chamber pays for a lot of the expense but i'm curious as to how much of the overtime expense the Chamber pays and how much this costs the City. If we are furlowing employees, the City should not be paying a dime.

  4. I won't be attending. Parking is terrible and vendors aren't worth it.

  5. I'd like to know how this event even cost 300,000. I understand there will be overtime for Police but City employees should already be on the clock with proper planning. The carnival rides should pay for it self. The vendors should be paying to be there.
    Is there something I'm missing?

  6. Pork in the Park is a much better event. Great job to the County.

Much more of a fun, family environment too.

  7. Give me a break. It's fun for the entire family. Things like this is what makes our community so great. How much of a fit did everyone throw when we lost fireworks, or was about to lose our christmas lights? What if we got rid of this. Wayste of money my a@#. We need this and I look forward to it every year. Also the Chamber is a great orginazation that helps small businesses grow. The Chamber helps bring a ton of money to the area. If you don't like it stay home on the couch. I ll be there spending money on local business vendors.

  9. There are color printed booklets all over town about the Salisbury Festival. I've seen them in restaurants, etc.

  10. I stopped attending a few years back when the spotlight of Trooper 4 hovered above the block party to deter the gangs.

  11. This is an excellent event. It's an economic generator and shows others the beauty of the Eastern Shore. $300,000 is small worthwhile investment.

  12. People in Salisbury are very small thinkers. Money becomes an issue if it's not going in their pockets.

  13. The block party is not for the whole family. Try pushing a stroller through those crowds. Who would want to expose their children to the vulgarity that will be all around them

  14. Quite frankly, day or night, it's not a safe place to be and I will not be taking my child there. I watched someone get jumped in broad daylight for no reason what so ever, by a group of thugs(WHITE AND BLANK MIGHT I ADD SO THERE'S NO CONFUSION ON THE RACE CARD). Sure, that CAN happen anyway but I most certainly am not going to go to a function that is notorious for that type of stuff. Kudos for implementing more officers so the ppl that do go have that much more of a chance of not getting jumped themselves.

  15. WBOC has a pg devoted to festival activities w/times, history, sponsors, etc. It is a great event and I know the Chamber works hard on planning it. I'll agree many do not feel safe going out w/children because of the element that shows up and the fowl language all around. I will go during the day and take my child on the rides and enjoy the food vendors. It is a shame that thugs can try to ruin a nice event. I applaud the police for their efforts. I hope it is a safe and successful event this year.

  17. Where the heck are the trash cans? I seen ONE. Why don't the vendors have cans by their stands to throw away the trash that comes from buying from them?

  18. Only way to fix it is move it out in the county. Charge a small fee. The thugs rule the place after dark. Take 300K for one year and put it toward gang supression. LOL Nice political word. In plain english take that 300k put a group of cops with no fear together. Then cut them loose on TTP and the Crabs. No holds barred. These punks are ruining the country not just our city,
