Young Republicans Are Ready To Rock The Vote!!

In another worrisome sign for Democrats, a greater number of young Republicans are prepared to go to the polls in the 2010 election, according to a new survey.

The enthusiasm of young Democratic voters is waning, according to the poll from the Harvard Institute of Politics. And it could spell trouble for the party.

"These 18- to 29-year-olds were a critical part of Barack Obama's campaign and they personally believe they were directly responsible for his electoral success," noted Bill Purcell, director of the institute.

More young John McCain supporters than Obama supporters are preparing to go to the polls in November, according to the survey. While 44 percent of Obama supporters said they'd "definitely" be voting, 53 percent of Sen. McCain's (R-Ariz.) supporters said they planned to go to the polls. The poll found 35 percent of Democrats and 41 percent of Republicans intended to vote.

The poll of some 3,000 18- to 29-year-olds was conducted between Jan. 29 and Feb. 22.

The results indicate "young Republicans are showing more enthusiasm than young Democrats for participating in these elections," Purcell said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday.

  1. 18-29 year olds don't vote. They never have. Why would they start now? Ask President Gore and President Kerry what the 18 - 29 year old voters did for them.

  2. As a member of the Lower Shore Young Republicans it's always important to get younger people involved. I think it starts with getting educated on the issues. If a person (of any age) feels informed on the issues he/she will be more likely to get involved and vote. So, with that said, please spread the word and/or come join us tonight at our monthly club meeting. The meeting is held at the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce building at 6:30. Tonight we have John Palmer of voice as our guest speaker. If you're not a young Republicans just come to show your support. Everyone is welcome.

  3. As President of the SU College Republicans at Salisbury University. I am proud to say we have grown from 5 to 40 in just one year. And no, we just don't sit around and eat pizza we do a lot. Having guest speakers like Gov. Ehrlich, Jim Pelura, Andy Harris, Mike McDermott, Delegate Page Elmore, and the great Sheriff Mike Lewis.

As a club we will be helping out with whatever we can come this election. We are co-hosting the Lincoln Day dinner here at the University April 3rd where Former Governor Ehrlich will be the guest speaker.

Also we will be having Maryland Republican Chairwomen Audrey Scott as a guest speaker Wednesday 7pm, Fireside Lounge. We are ready to rock and roll this year and if only the College Dems. could get themselves together we could have debates, panels, etc here on campus. Too bad they can not.

    SU College Republican President
