Did you know that the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress is pimping for the re-election of Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt? Well, they are.
Last Saturday, the Campaign to Repeal the Revenue Cap and Raise Your Taxes (aka – Re-Elect Rick Pollitt) hosted a fundraiser at the Pittsville Fire House. A few days before, I received this email from the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress:
Good morning Congress!
Attached above, kindly find our invitation to join County Executive Rick Pollitt and friends on Saturday afternoon, March 13th 2010, for a traditional Beef ‘n’ Dumplings dinner as Rick kicks off his re-election campaign as our first county executive. The dinner will be held at the Pittsville Fire Hall from 5PM to 8PM and will feature live music, great food and stimulating fellowship. Rick’s friends are asking for a donation of $30.00 to help defray the cost of the dinner and begin building a campaign treasury that will carry them through to Election Day.
We would like to ask everyone to come out and support Rick in his re-election efforts. As you know, the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress was Rick’s vision, over three years ago, of bringing together a coalition of neighborhood leaders. The Congress has been Rick’s means of reaching into the very heart of our county to determine the problems facing our neighborhoods. He see’s and reads every e-mail communication that is sent out to the “Congress” and appreciates your dedication and the leadership you are giving; reaching out and gathering together for the preservation and betterment of our neighborhoods and community in Wicomico County.
Please join us for this fun and supportive evening for Rick. Please RSVP by calling Connie Strott at 410-430-3112 so that they’ll know “how many dumplin’s to fix.
See you on Saturday!
Cindy Pilchard
Wicomico Neighborhood Congress
Chairman
To be fair, Cindy Pilchard isn’t violating any laws by doing this. I can even hear my pal Mike Pretl giving me hell now because I opposed his plan to turn the WNC into a 501-c3 grassroots lobby. (Such an email would be a gross violation of several laws IF the WNC was an incorporated 501-c3, but I still stand by my opposition)
IF Pilchard had simply sent out a personal email, I don’t think I would be as bothered by this. Unfortunately, she didn’t. Now we will be forced to scrutinize the motives behind every action taken by the WNC. Sadly, the WNC now appears to be an adjunct of the Wicomico Democrat Central Committee rather than what it intended to be.
Shame on Ms. Pilchard and SHAME on Rick Pollitt.
What does the wnc do? Who are they? Are they local business men and women? Where can I find the list of names and addresses? It's time for boycotts and public displays...it's time to let people like this know we've had enough of their abuse and unethical, underhand schemes!
ReplyDeleteJoe Holloway for County Exec!
ReplyDeleteJoe Holloway is not going to run.
ReplyDeleteI got the same email from Cindy Pilchard and I am thoroughly disgusted with her and Rick Pollitt's dirty politics. I will be resigning from the commission immediately.
ReplyDeleteIt may not be illegal, but it is certainly unethetical for a hand picked committee to persuade it's members to support the politician/elected official that appointed them.
Cindy Pilchard and Rick Pollitt need to resign effective immediately!!
the WNC is a joke and should not be political at all. They should stay neutral. Run by a bunch of libs
ReplyDeleteYea Joe give them hell. Joe Holloway needs to stay on the council. He will be of more use there. He is an honest hard working man.
ReplyDeleteThere has gota be someone who can be elected and work for the people
Who are you?
You, Joe could streighten out anything. Do you live in maryland? Or can You run because you have property in wicomico county?
Hope they paid for the use of the hall. Doesn't seem that a firehall should be used for this type of activity.
ReplyDeleteIs it a vantriliquist or a puppet?
ReplyDeleteIt's VENTRILOQUIST!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't your browser have spell check? If you want to be nasty, at least do it without looking like a 2nd grader.
anonymous 12:02, so you know, some have spell check on Blogger and some do not. I have it when I draft articles but I do not have in in comments. Be easy, will ya.
ReplyDeleteSounds by the tone, Anger management class is a necessity.

ReplyDeleteRick Pollitt is a honorable man.

If you really believed that then you would sign your name.
So let me get this straight: Rick Pollitt campaigned on and then created a Neighborhood Congress to improve relations between Wicomico countians through a network of communities. In turn, the head of their association is INVITING their members to come out and support the person that still wants to encourage their work and will champion Wicomico neighborhoods for another 4 years. The only "SHAME" I see here should be directed at the original poster for trying to find a scandal where there is none. The first comment shows real intelligence: to paraphase, "I have no idea what the Neighborhood Congress is or does, but let me accuse them of "abuse" and being "unethical." You people need to get a life and stop looking for villains where there are none. Why can't you just agree to disagree on political views and stop trying to demonize the opposition?
ReplyDeleteGail Anon 1:55 PM,
ReplyDeleteAnd I bet you voted for and worship Obama don't you!!
you're no fun Gail ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm for Pollitt and Joe should stay away from anything period. He turned his back on county employees. Did the opposite of what he promised people so he would get elected. The same with John Cannon.
ReplyDeleteto 2:06: I did not vote for Obama, do not like much of what he advocates, but I refuse to see him as the devil. I was taught to respect the office of the POTUS and the person who occupies that office is my president. I will say however, I had a much harder time with that respect when Bush (aka. "W") was our leader. I know many of you want to stereotype anyone who might disagree with you, but it doesn't always work, now does it? I know I'm no fun; I have this problem of letting facts get in the way of "fun." :)

ReplyDeleteBefore you spout off, you should read the ENTIRE post (or perhaps you did and just can't comprehend written English). As I noted, if Ms. Pilchard had sent out an email on her own that would have been fine. If Jim Ireton sends a letter out on his own, that's fine too.
Here's the problem. Rick Pollitt promised that the WNC would never be a partisan political organization. Now, the chairman of the WNC is sending out correspondence stating that the WNC supports Pollitt's re-election AND encouraging people to donate to that re-election.
Now if you believe that is OK, I would suggest that your moral compass is out of whack.
Anon 1435-
Please provide a specific example of when Joe Holloway EVER broke a promise to the voters. If you claim Question A, then you would be mistaken. The deal cooked up between Pollitt and the FOP's lawyers asked the county council to void the county's charter. I respected every member of council, including Bill McCain who I seldom agree with, for taking a courageous stand.
If that is to what you are referring I would suggest that you talk to Rick Pollitt as to why he hasn't tried to address some of these concerns in almost four years.

ReplyDeleteYou don't grasp what the WNC was SUPPOSED to be about. It was not supposed to be political (in the partisan or electoral sense).
Now, you have a right to believe that it should. However, the people on the board and the folks who formed the group know that they are not supposed to be engaging in partisan political activity. Doing so makes Ms. Pilchard a dishonorable person.
