Binyamin Netanyahu humiliated After Barack Obama 'Dumped Him For Dinner'

For a head of government to visit the White House and not pose for photographers is rare. For a key ally to be left to his own devices while the President withdraws to have dinner in private was, until this week, unheard of. Yet that is how Binyamin Netanyahu was treated by President Obama on Tuesday night, according to Israeli reports on a trip viewed in Jerusalem as a humiliation.

After failing to extract a written promise of concessions on settlements, Mr Obama walked out of his meeting with Mr Netanyahu but invited him to stay at the White House, consult with advisers and “let me know if there is anything new”, a US congressman, who spoke to the Prime Minister, said.

“It was awful,” the congressman said. One Israeli newspaper called the meeting “a hazing in stages”, poisoned by such mistrust that the Israeli delegation eventually left rather than risk being eavesdropped on a White House telephone line. Another said that the Prime Minister had received “the treatment reserved for the President of Equatorial Guinea”.

Left to talk among themselves Mr Netanyahu and his aides retreated to the Roosevelt Room. He spent a further half-hour with Mr Obama and extended his stay for a day of emergency talks to try to restart peace negotiations. However, he left last night with no official statement from either side. He returned to Israel yesterday isolated after what Israeli media have called a White House ambush for which he is largely to blame.

  1. this was payback for the isrealis humiliating vice president Biden during his trip to isreal by announcing that they were going to start building new settlements in east jerusalem. Biden was there to try to jump start the peace talks. They are America's biggest welfare recipient they should do as we tell them.

  4. Do you really expect a President raised in a Muslim environment to be courteous to a representative of Israel?

Wake up people, he wasn't raised in the US, does not identify with the Constitution, and thinks we should be the next emerging third world country.

  7. 10:09 is correct. As much as we support Israel, the slap in the face to the VP was beyond the pale.

I think it is great that Obama can play tough...Bibi needed a dose of his own medicine.

The VP was already a fool prior to the incident w/ Israel. He's just another puppet in the Washington marionette show.

  10. I think it just showed Obama's lack of experience sending a lackey over and expecting the Israeli's to grab their ankles . Obama has been hostile towards Israel from the start so is Jimmy Carter for that matter and both are pro-Islam .

  12. Israel has the right to build homes in their own capital just as the U.S. has the right to build homes in Washington, D.C.

We don't own Israel. Biden and Obama need to get over it.

Also, if you want to talk about someone snubbing someone, how about Obama going to Egypt, praising the Muslims, and refusing Israel's invitation to meet with them while he was already in the region? Obama committed the first diplomatic slap in the face.

Do these words mean anything: "I will bless those who bless you, and curse him who curses you"?

  13. 7:47 if Biden and Obama need to get "over" Israel then we also need to stop giving them 4 billion dollars. But then again if they did that it would be another reason for republicans to try and kick him out. Israel needs to give back the land and if they don't we need to cut aid and I bet you they will listen.

  15. no one needs to assist the VP in making a fool of himself, he does just fine on his own!!!
this country needs to wake up--clean the congressinal house in November 2010--let folks know what we truly stand for, and for those that don't like it, i'm sure a flight to iraq or some other country can be arranged
