LAST DAY OF SCHOOL/MAKEUP DAYS
Closings due to inclement weather and poor road conditions on Dec. 21 and 22, Jan. 8, and Feb. 1 and 2 will be made up on the five days from Monday, June 14 through Friday, June 18, in accordance with the approved school calendar for 2009-2010. June 16, 17 and 18 will be early dismissal days. The Board is expected to decide at its Feb. 9 monthly meeting on how to make up the latest school closing day, Feb. 3. There are no more makeup days in the approved calendar. In the approved 2009-10 school calendar, the Board also designated some professional days, including March 1 and May 3, that could become school days if needed due to emergency closings. Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen said he may ask the Board to consider making the March 1 professional day a school day with early dismissal for students, so that teachers would still have time that day for the professional development required prior to the administration of the Maryland School Assessment later in March. The calendar for this school year is still subject to change by weather closings and other factors.

I am wondering if the kids will get their Summer Break?
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if the teachers will get their summer break??
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering why people comment when the state law concerning the latest possible last day of school has been discussed frequently in the media over the past month.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that the Super has to request a waiver but I don't know the conditions that need to be met for him to do this...read something yesterday from somebody who posted to your site Joe about teachers having to work 190 days, and kids have to get in the mandated 180 days. nothing was said about a specific day, but at this rate, they will be into at least the last week of June - sounds like the kids will get about a month and a half off at this rate, and we are no where near the end of winter. Certainly nobody can predict what kind of winter we might have, and it would be impossible for the BOE to pad the schedule more than they have...thoughts anyone?
ReplyDeleteAnd all because of that stupid groundhog!
