Today's Survey Question

Do You Think Joe Holloway Should Run For County Executive? Yes or No...
Joe, We would be interested in knowing how much interest the voters in Wicomico County have for Mr. Joe Holloway running against Rick Pollitt in the next election. We would have a self made man, business person running for a position for the betterment of all the taxpayers.
Against a politician who thrives on spending money and don't listen to the taxpayers. He has lots of education and look where that has got us.

  1. Yes, please, we need him badly after years of tax & spenders of the Democrat persuasion -- "Phil" Tilghman, "Tony" Sarbanes" and now "Ricky" Pollitt.

  2. I think Mr Holloway, from what Ive seen of him is a down to earth honest man. I think he actualy cares about more than a personal agenda. He seems real. My answer is YES.

  3. Definite YES!!!! Go Joe!

    ReplyDelete
  4. If Pollitt does that parking lot scam at the Civic Center, Joe will be County Exec. this time next year!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Rick Pollitt is a career politician who needs to go back and get a real job like the rest of us. He has lost touch like his idols, O'Malley and Obama. Joe could beat him easy. With Rick's record really anyone who goes up against him will defeat him. Rick must GO!!!!!

  6. Yes. We need a person who knows how to run a business. How to stretch a dollar. How to listen to us the taxpayer. He is a real person. I would be willing to help raise money for his campaign. We need to get back to basics of
    Abe Lincoln, George
Washington, Benjamin Franklin. The people in government FOR THE PEOPLE.

  7. I'll work for Joe and vote for him (early and often) but the local power elite -- Greater Salisbury Committee, etc., will do everything to try to keep their puppet Pollitt in office.

    ReplyDelete
  8. NO. He's a reactionary without vision.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Absolutely not, for Joe's sake!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Joe:

Please don't seek or take any advice from Alessi, and I'll vote for you.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I went to school with Joe and I thing it would be refreshing change.

    ReplyDelete
  12. yes, way to go joe!

    ReplyDelete
  13. This year could be a clean sweep out for the Dems, including Pollitt, Conway, Mathais, McCain, Macleod, Hughes and RINO John Cannon and of course Marty O'Money.

    Joe Holloway for County Exec.

The only Dem. I might vote for is Kratovil, unless Pipken runs against him.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Please run Mr. Holloway! Salisbury needs someone like you NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes & no. Yes because he is down to earth and is a doer. No because it might corrupt him.

  16. Conservative DemocratFebruary 4, 2010 at 3:35 PM

Joe is a good man, but watch the democrats and the teachers come out against a good man when the chips are down. That bunch and their union don't care one whit about common sense budget numbers, or having an open, honest, and common sense government. Wait and see, if Joe runs, and I hope he does, the unions will try to skewer him. Do it Joe but watch out, there's nothing more dangerous than a teachers union, except maybe a pit of vipers.

  17. how about joe albero for county executive??????

  18. anonymous 3:39, Trust me, I thought about it. However, IF Joe Holloway runs I'd be a happy camper.

  19. Joe Albero for executive....please Joe please!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I remember Joe back when he had the store in parsonsburg(best sausage ever) and he was a good honest man so YES!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Albero yes yes yes

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yes, that would be a huge improvement!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Another idea would be to eliminate the executive position and take it back to the way it was.
But Joe Holloway would be way better than Ricky if you want an exec.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 3:04 & 3:35 -- You are both right.

The local developers and business "leaders" who run things out of the "Greater Salisbury Committee" as well as teachers and other who fear a real independent conservative like Joe Holloway will do anything to keep him out and Pollitt as the County Exec. But this year the rest of us may be strong enough to turn that tide.

Let's hope and pray that Mr. Holloway will run against Pollitt.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Holloway is much better to work with the next gov. -- Bob Ehrlich.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Get rid of the County Executive position entirely and save lots of money.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have known Joe for a long time and he is a good man. Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Holloway, Prettyman or Brewington are all fiscal hawks. Or Campbell.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I lived in Parsonsburg as a child and went to Joes store, he was always there working and would always tells us kids to watch the people on the roads (we road our bikes to get candy from there). He looked out for us! He is a great person with great values....YES!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. With Joe's background of running his own business, i.e. meeting payroll, inventory control, personnel and accounting requirements make him a most qualified candidate for the position.

He has my vote, that of my family and also our financil support for his campaign.

"GO WITH JOE-HE WILL SAVE US DOUGH"!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes! Joe, you never talk about the airport. I don't know how they stay in business--try booking a reasonably priced flight and a convenient time. How much are they losing every year?

    ReplyDelete
  32. He!! NO, I know Joe well to as a matter of fact I've known Joe for 31 years and I know for a fact he only does what is good for Joe he reacts without thinking. He only approves and disapproves what benefits him, if you don't think so ask him about the nuisance burning issue that was brought before the council, he made it publicly know his stand on the issue..ENOUGH SAID

    ReplyDelete
  33. He is not educated enough. Calling out wasteful spending on a $23 pen is not a good qualification.

    ReplyDelete
  34. anonymous 5:35, what the hell does education have to do with anything. Perhaps you didn't recognize everyone mentioning he's a RETIRED and successful businessman? Oh, that's not good enough for you, right? While you work until your 90 years old bitching about having to pay off your refinancing.

Vesides, since when did Joe Hollowar advertise his education to anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  35. 5:35 You find wisdom in the darnest places sometimes. How much schooling did Lincoln have?

    ReplyDelete
  36. The executive position should be eliminated but if not...Yes Mr Halloway has my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 5:28 just because the subject did not go your way does not make him a bad person for the job.

As far as education goes i'll take a man made business person over someone who had a degree..anyone can get a degree..not everyone can be sucessful and honest to boot.

We are with Joe if he chooses to want the job.

    ReplyDelete
  38. anonymous 6:05, allow me to add the following.

IF the County Executive position were to remain, then the Council needs to be reduced by two members.

They are no longer the legislative body they used to be and there's no need to be paying 7 members.

    Just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  39. JB should run. She has what it takes to stand up for the people.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 5:50

If you are talking about Julie Brewington, I agree.

    ReplyDelete
  41. 5:50 I agree. We need someone with new fresh ideas. She should. I hope Julie does run.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've met and talked with him. Really nice guy and seemed genuine. This is why I voted for him last time and I would vote for him if he ran for this position.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Life credits and experience are worth more than most anything on a piece of paper.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 6:08 Joe, how would that fit in to accomodate the "minority district." Isn't that why their are five districts and two at-large?

Also, not sure what you mean by the legislative body is no longer what they used to be.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You got that right.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Joe Holloway is a good man for the job. Has anyone read the 2009 audit report (issued 12/30/09)? Take a look at pages 8 thru 11. The finance department is a disgrace. These are career ending errors yet the same people that made the errors a year ago are making them AGAIN this year. We have the 5th highest county tax rate in the state (out of 23 counties). When we the apathy end. The taxpayers must stand up for their rights.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mike Carey for County Exec!

    ReplyDelete
  48. 7:17 personally I would rather have Sgt. Carey protecting us instead of representing us. We need him in law enforcement and NOT politics.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Whoever posted that Joe Holloway is a reactionary is just plain stupid. I would support Joe or Julie Brewington. They both have charisma, common sense, business skills, and aren't afraid to voice up their opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  50. someone related to Sheriff Mike Lewis should run, look what he has done with that department. Sheriff if you have any relatives half as good as you tell them to run.

    ReplyDelete
  51. IMO If Ricky makes this parking lot deal he will loose reelection! I could work for JH to be elected to CE. He is an honest man with conservative values, He could lead Wic County in a new and fresh direction. Give this guy a chance. I have known Ricky for a long time and have been disappointed more than once since he took office.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes. Just about any alternative would be better. 8:01 NO!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Bill dont want no part of it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. In a race between Pollitt and and a corpse, I'd take the corpse. Holloway..fine....you....fine....the field, great.

    You get the point.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Julie Brewington would be a breath of fresh air for this county. She spends all her spare time fighting for causes she believes in without being paid for it. That's the level of dedication we need in these dire times.

    ReplyDelete
  58. How can Joe Albero run for Wicomico County executive?? I thought he lived in Delmar,DE which is in Sussex County unless somebody moved the Mason-Dixon Line.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think Julie should run.DEFINITELY.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Are you talking about the blonde Julie Brewington. Talk about a disaster. Yes for Joe Holloway and stupid for those encouraging Julie.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 9:24 Some might consider you stupid for calling people stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I encourage anyone to run for office that is doing it for the right reason- which is to serve the people- and has a grasp of the job duties.

The problems that are apparent to me in local politics is that people run out of ego or based on one issue. This position, like that of Mayor, councilperson or commissioner is a lot more involved than one decision.

Look at the entirety of the position and if you can handle it then run.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Joe Holloway is a good man. He's been one of the few people from the the county council to stand up for the tax payer. I agree with him much of the time and I consider him a friend. I would hate to loose him as a council representative, although I support whatever endeavors he may have.

I became involved in politics and the grassroots organization Americans for Prosperity because I couldn't watch television anymore showing our debt climbing, jobs evaporating, and cronyism prevailing. I have to consider my children because they have no voice. I feel like our Country and our County is vastly different than the place where I grew up. We are late in our efforts to impact the right kind of change. As a result, the task has absorbed me. Organizing AFP groups, participating in the marches on Washington and Annapolis, meeting with representatives, and attending almost all of the County council meetings, I have come to understand that politics in Maryland and on the Eastern Shore are for the elite.

I did consider running for the county council because I felt I could impact this county in a positive way. However, I discovered that there is an incredible time investment required to do a good job. The fact of the matter is if one wants to serve the people well in that capacity, one either needs to be retired, or independently wealthy.

The county executive position sets much of the stage for the county council. This is the most influential position in Wicomico county. Real positive change can come from this position of leadership. However, running for this office requires a ridiculous amount of money (40 -50K) and campaigning for the position is a full time job. The truth is regular hard working folks have a very difficult time getting elected to office. As a result we get people who have a stake in making policy. We get the government we deserve.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and support for CE and while I support Joe Holloway at this time, I am trying to do the most good and that just may be to keep on doing what I'm doing unless we, the regular working people can figure out how to get in the game.

    Julie Brewington

    ReplyDelete
  64. yes I belive joe h truly cares for the tax payers.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Julie, good comment. JH would be better than pollitt. Don't have to be retired or wealthy to do good job as councilperson.

3 losers on city council don't work and suck. Debbie Campbell and Terry cohen are neither retired or wealthy plus have kids and they do great job.

    takes smarts, experience and commitment

    think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes Joe would get my vote

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow JB, you need to run for CE what can I do to help???

    ReplyDelete
  68. 12:16 am You speaking about the City Council. This is for the County Council and they put in lots and lots of time. Most put in 40 to 50 hours a week. And, yes it cost lots of dough to run. I remember Tony Sarbanes and what he spent to win the election. Look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  69. JA, Thanks for this post. It is getting people to think and there are some really great comments on here. Remember the election is just around the corner.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Julie, Please run!

    ReplyDelete
  71. So now that we have seen the county executive position in operation, how about eliminating it? Same old staff is there anyway. The position is just another layer of bureaucracy at taxpayers' expense. Do away with the county executive office and eliminate a couple of council members. That would save lots of taxpayers' $$.

    ReplyDelete
  72. 12:16 The county council takes nearly 2 full workdays (minimum) during the month, as their meetings are generally held during the day. They have MANY other evemts to attend during the month and if they are to serve the county well they have to read and research the various legislation.

I think they get paid about $13,000per year and it costs roughly $7,000 to run.

The city still has evening meetings but with Loiuse Smith's plan to move the second work session of the month to mornings, it's going to impact Campbell and Cohen's ability to do their regular jobs or the ability to represent the city.

  74. Yes, Joe Holloway is a very good and honest man, BUT, I personally feel that that job is more than he can tackle. You really have to be very savvy on ALL laws, bylaws, etc. and frankly I feel it is more than he could handle and I do not want to take away anything from his honesty and dedication to our county.
