Thief Steals New TV Destined For USO

Location: Parking lot in front of TJ Maxx, 5627 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County

Date of Occurrence: Thursday, February 4, 2010, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

Suspect(s): Unknown at this time

Resume: Yesterday evening, a representative from the USO in Dover traveled from Kent County to the Best Buy on Concord Pike in Wilmington to purchase a new flat screen TV, valued at $6,000.00. The TV was destined for the brand new USO facility on the Dover Air Force Base to be enjoyed by our Troops. (This new USO facility was to have a grand opening in the days to come.)

After the purchase was made, the USO representative drove north on Route 202 to the TJ Maxx store, in the Brandywine Town Center Complex, and parked the fully marked USO van out front. She was in TJ Maxx for approximately 45 minutes before getting back into the van and returning to the DAFB.

Once back at the base, the USO representative tried to get out of the van, but driver’s side door was stuck. She then turned on the van’s interior light and saw the box which contained the TV was cut open and the TV was gone. She eventually got out of the van and noticed the driver’s side door lock had been damaged.

Unfortunately, the area van was parked out in front of TJ Maxx was not monitored by video surveillance. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen someone lurking around the USO van, or anyone who may have information pertaining to this case call Troop 1 at 302-761-6677 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

  2. Ok...lets look at this story. She loaded up the van and took off North to TJ Maxx. Got out of the van and locked it up. Fine so far.

She was in the store 45 minutes and left the store to return to DAFB. She didn't know the lock on the DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR had been damaged when she STUCK THE KEY IN THE DOOR to open it? The door was stuck when she returned back to the base BUT NOT when she went to open the door to begin with?

    Something sounds fishy here.....sorry.

  6. also 10:38 if someone was gona steal a big tv like that from a place right where the van was parked why would they take the time to take the tv out of the box and risk having somebody see them I would think that they would just hurry and take the whole thing unless you ar involved with or are in the USO and you wouldnt want someone else who is involved with the USO to see you getn rid of your trash (the box) from the tv
