Tancredo Tells Tea Partiers: Literacy Test For Voters Would Have Stopped Obama
The Tea Party convention kicked off today in Nasvhille, and former Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) opened up the convention with some controversial remarks about the 2008 election.
"People who could not even spell the word 'vote' or say it in English put a committed socialist ideologue in the White House," Tancredo said during a speech, according to the Cleveland Leader.
Tancredo also said Obama won because "we do not have a civics, literacy test before people can vote."
This isn't the first time Tancredo has made controversial statements.
The Colorado Republican has long been a striden opponent of illegal immigration, and liberals have accused him of racial insensitivity. He launched a presidential bid in 2008 based on an anti-illegal immigration platform.
While explaining his opposition to Sonia Sotomayor's nomination, he called the group La Raza "a Latino KKK without the hoods or the nooses."

an I.Q. test would have shut it down or heck even if they asked for a voter I.D.! We all know ACORN played a hand in vote tampering .
ReplyDeleteHe tells it like it is. Look at the interviews with obamanation voters after the last election. And of course everything is racial insensitivity. Prove it is not true. And then talk about it. I think Tancredo speaks what many would like to say but we know we would be called racist. Any discussion of race if you are white you are branded racists. If you are black it is ok. Check out what Chairman Conyers said. He wants a newly confirmed (dec 09) native american that appeared before his committee without any black in his 12 person staff that he must be fired.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't know that only an idiot would vote for obamma?
ReplyDeleteWe must start speaking frankly , just like this, to save our country. Political correctness compounded with white guilt has destroyed our country.
ReplyDeleteYes, please. Keep speaking frankly.
ReplyDeleteAmen This is exactly what many, many people say and thats the truth. Some statements I've heard by O'bama loyal backers was flat out ignorant and they should not be allowed to vote. It's bad when the likes of these people elect a president that effects all of us.
ReplyDelete6:13,
ReplyDeleteNo, the posters like are destroying this country. I am not saying you are, but there are way to many racist posters on this site. Why would an American citizen have to prove anything besides registration when voting? Let's do that and also have a writing/reading test to get a gun license. You all are a pathetic bunch.
You stupid gringo's are never going to keep people who want a better life out of the USA. It was made for people like us to come a build a better life.
ReplyDeleteIf you think a bunch of lazy cowboys will keep us out you better think again essay...
See you on the border ;)
More of the same RINO/Tea Bagger crap we've been seeing from our sad sad party.
ReplyDeletethe republican party needs to split in two before the election cycle this year or risk being a laughing stock.
The man is absoutely right. I have been saying for years-if you don't pay taxes, you should not have a say in anything. A policy such as that would have stopped king hussien before he ever got started. Anybody with any sense knows that he was only elected because he is black. Actually, he is only half black, but that wasn't talked about because it may have hurt his credibility with his base. A white man with his credentials would have (rightly so) been considered a freaking joke. Now we have a freaking joke for a president, but it isn't funny. We have allowed the ignorant to elect the enemy. America may never recover.
ReplyDeleteAnyone living in Maryland HAS TO know how to read and write to wade through the pages of beaurocratic BS when purchasing their guns. That's right, intelligent AND armed to the teeth.... Better get used to it, your racist banter won't fly for long... We're coming...
ReplyDeleteYeah poll taxes are a good idea too...give me a break.
ReplyDeleteStatistics have proven that the illiteracy rate is much higher in the conservative right wing movement, than any other political affiliation.
ReplyDeleteThis is obviouslly just poliical pandering to those who are too ill informed to know better.
Simple put, if you think this statement is true. Odds are you have a lower IQ than the average Obama fan.
Let it be known though that I did not vote for the man, but I simply wil not stand for the idiotizing methods of the current political leadership. People need to stop reading this trashy rhetoric and pick up a book and learn some real information.

ReplyDeleteIM KICKING YOU OUT OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. you are a joke, and an embarrassment.

ReplyDeleteLike it is un constitutional to require any test at all in order to vote. This was tried early on in the 20th Century and found to be wrong.
Now if one wants to stand on if a person doesn't pay taxes and shouldn't vote that's a whole other issue.
Literacy is not and should not be a requirement for voting. One simply needs to take the time and educate the voter and encourage tough questions.
uh maybe he should read the constitution??????????
ReplyDeletewhat you all fail to realize is that the political system in the usa is set up to give the voters the ability to throw the bums out, without any discernable change in the governments policies.
ReplyDeletethink about it, doesn't matter whether it's rep or dem, they are both screwing us!
Nothing will ever change until there is a viable third party!
The Founding Fathers didn't believe the new American population was educated enough to elect their own president, thus the Electoral College. I understand the elitest reasoning from 1787, but the call for a literacy tests smacks of the predjudice, racism and bigotry of the post Civil War era. Instead of debate and differences of opinion, lets just cut out their voting rights if they don't agree with you. A Republic or a democracy? Neither....Try communism?
ReplyDeleteYes, conservatives and tea partiers, hold guys like this up as your standard bearer. We'll see how long your movement lasts.
ReplyDelete8:02, hold up Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Kratovil, O'Malley as YOUR standard bearer and we will see how long your party lasts.

ReplyDelete"You stupid gringo's are never going to keep people who want a better life out of the USA. It was made for people like us to come a build a better life."
ReplyDeleteOK, let's define "better life".
"Better life" means to these folks ignoring our nations laws by being here in the first place, popping out large quantities of citizen anchor babies, sending those children to world-class free public schools, and busting-out the health care system by visiting hospital emergency rooms for free.
Then they and their children provide the warm bodies to vote for more compliant politicians who will provide more "free".
Try entering Mexico illegally, Gringo, and see how welcomed you are.
remember folks what goes around comes around, eventually all those who are so willing to come here and break our laws and then want amnesty will be the ones paying for the next group that comes here! Karma!
ReplyDeleteI have an idea: Without prior notice, give a literacy and civics test from the 1860's and also a civics test that is currently given to high school students, to all of the attendees at the Tea Party convention and include Tom Tancredo and Sarah Palin as well. I wonder how many of them would pass and be able to vote? I expect less than half would pass. Just a thought.
