Not ALL Schools Are Closed

Talbot County Public Schools are open and operating on a normal schedule.

Las escuelas públicas del condado de Talbot estarán operando en los horarios normales.

It appears that schools in mid Shore Counties -- Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne's -- are opened, so why are they closed here (Wicomico. Worcester & Somerset)???

  1. Who are the boneheads on the Bored of Ed. in the lower Shore counties -- they need a wake-up call ASAP!

  2. Sussex schools are opened, except for Delmar, which copies Wicomico on closing.

  3. Joe:

That's a dumb question -- it's not snowing hard in those counties like it is down here.

  7. How about talking about the hearsay that the "new" Wicomico County Super who is already engaging exectuive search firms. If that is the case, shouldn't we be skeptical of his ability to make decisions with a long term focus?

  8. my my my , what a terrible storm we are having. Cancelling schools and the roads are not only "clear", they are dry in many areas????? WTF????

  11. They closed because they can now get a 5 day waiver for previous days off instead of the expected 2 because of the State Of Emergency... Then they will have an excuse for poor performance on State Tests ECT...

  12. The Salisbury School is open today. They typically follow the county but did not today.

  13. At this point I think the County should just stop PRETENDING to actually care about our childrens' education. Lets cheat the kids out of a future and proper education, but hey, they were off the roads!

  14. actually anony:10:35 may have a point. Though still no excuse to close the schools today. Not only did bad weather put me in predicament with the school closing, they will only be operating 1/2 day on monday, in order to makeup a snow day, but the 1/2 day still puts me in a bind. I think we are at 12 snow days. I hope dear freddy boy, scales back the spring / easter break and looses some the additional professional days.

  17. Dear Lord, please forgive me for making wrong calls or making mistakes so I can comment on here. It is apparent those venting on here have never done either. Yes sometimes people do make wrong calls and err in judgement but get over it. What's done is done. Get on with your day.

  18. board of ed. need to find a weather radar and someone to be able to read it.
    ATTENTION...ATTENTION...ATTENTION

what next....will they close schools because the sun is to bright....
if it did begin to snow...they could have closed schools early...

  20. I agree that school should have been in session today, However, the BOE's job is nothing short of air traffic control with busses. They can't win for losing. If they open school people complain. If they close it due to a ominous forecast they are criticized. Testing and school activities aside, as that's an argument for a different forum, its a tough job and one that can't possible please everyone. With the hype this storm was getting even down here its understandable they had a knee jerk reaction. Its a daycare inconvenience for sure but lets not make the job of closing/opening school sound like its tremendously easy because its not...

  21. wow you people complain about everything! First ya complain cause schools open when they shouldnt. Now the county is being precautious and you guys are complaining. I understand we havent got snow yet but what if we did? You would be glad they already closed school instead of scrambling to pick your kids up when they closed school early. Give them a break!

  22. Enough already! They made the right call this morning because we had a couple inches of snow and ice on the ground with the threat of more on the way. Better safe than sorry. Somebody's got to always be complaining about something-if schools were open on schedule this morning, everyone would be complaining that they should have closed. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. And you can bet they will be closed tomorrow as well with more snow coming tonight. I, for one, am glad that they are doing what they feel is best to protect our children!

  23. Isn't it a shame, the free babysitter is closed today. Lets face it, that is all you people are concerned about.

  24. Accomack County went to school today, on time. My mom is a bus driver, they told them to stay close to a phone in case they need to release early this afternoon! Why couldn't Wicomico have done that?
