It Was Pretty Evident School Wasn't Going To Be Open Today
As I complained yesterday about Schools in Wicomico County not being closed on Monday, once we got out and about yesterday it became even more evident there was no way they were going to have things cleared out in time for students to make it to School, let alone access any of the Schools they'd be attending. So again, why couldn't they make an early announcement that School would in fact be closed?
Because they are idiots, and they are not concerned about the thousands of parents that could use the extra time to make arrangements for the kids. They wait until the last minute and leave many parents without a sitter resulting in them having to stay home and miss work and compensation or they have to utilize sick or vacation time. The WCBOE is a crock of s%^t, all other counties seem to be able to make their minds up in a timely manner!
I agree with you Joe. And why does John Frederickson keep calling our house with a message with him trying to speak elementary Spanish. This is America.....not Mexico.
When my kids were younger I always had an alternate plan in place if schools were closed. Instead of complaining, take this time to figure out how to be a parent all the time. In good weather and bad. By the way, how much time do you need. It was on WBOC's website and the Bd. of Ed's website by 2:30 yesterday!!!
If they are lucky, they can get this stuff cleared in time for tomorrow night's new snow. That will take a day to clear by itself. Face it - no school until Thursday and that will probably be a delay.
Is it really out of order to plan ahead? If you don't have a regular daycare provider and you must rely on family, neighbors, or friends, is it that difficult to line them up and then cancel later if needed? I don't know why Wicomico waited until 1:45 or so yesterday to post their cancellation, but didn't that still give ample time to make alternate arrangements? The same one complaining about child care are probably the same people who went out to the grocery stores on Friday afternoon to find shelves empty. Was it the weatherman's fault? You can't wait for the last minute for everything. What do you people do for fog delays and such?
If you didn't know that schools would be closed today without waiting for the board to tell you then you have more serious problems than what to do with your children. Or you are just looking for something to complain about.
As a teacher in the system, I am glad that the school closing was posted very early yesterday. It was on the board website by 1:30. That certainly should be enough time for everyone. Additionally, I appreciate the efforts of Dr. Fredericksen to communicate in two languages. We have many, many Spanish speakers in this area....and they are not just from Mexico. They come from Chile, Peru, El Salvador, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela, to name a few.
well if the WCBOE contracted out a reliable local company to plow out the schools, maybe they would be open possibly tomorrow. Since the WCBOE contracts out a bunch of lackies, nothing is done or done right. I recently graduated from Parkside, and I witnessed a bunch of crap that these contractors do. The WCBOE is lucky that an Inspector has not shut down a school yet. There is a bunch of hazards that these contractors make when they do work on the schools. Last year when they cleared the parking lot, they drove around in it first and compacted the snow which created ice and was a safety hazard to kids getting out of their cars. They WCBOE can do better. I pity them. Also, Dr. Fredrickson gave the lamest speech at my graduation- Not even a single person understanded it! NOT ONE!
They probably waited because if they called it earlier people would be complaining that they were too quick to call school. Besides, did you look out the window yesterday? Was there really a question that school would be closed today? Having a plan in place for school closures should be done way in advance of actually needing it - it is called being a parent!
what a bunch of WHINERS on here. Your life is so aweful all you can do it try to make other people feel aweful too by complaining. Go do something productive.
10:18, well aren't you so wise! Well what about the people that have to make plans on the fly and the same plan for one weather event or cancellation just might not work for the next one. Not everyone has a retired relative or other family member or situation that would allow them the ease of having one plan you idiot! You were just fortunate to have one plan that would work for any given day! Just like the WCBOE, you are an idiot!
Why doesn't the BOE just call this "winter vacation" & look forward to opening on Monday. The buses can't navigate on all the ice on neighborhood roads, not to mention some of the iced up main roads.
Even if no more snow falls, schools won't open until Thursday. With the forecast of more snow and sleet, schools will be closed all week. With Presidents Day on Monday, the kids won't be in school again until Tuesday the 16th. You can bet on that.
11:05 I guess you wouldn't support English as the national language? Probably a liberal teacher getting paid for a day off. If Fredrickson wants to show off his Spanish why not request who wants to hear it and leave the rest of us alone. Multiculturalism sucks.
Heard on the radio at lunch time that Baltimore County schools were closed Tues and Weds. Why not do the same here? We know the schools aren't gonna open til Thursday at the earliest.
Please open the damn schools, my neighbor drops his kids off every time the schools are closed he thinks I'm running a daycare. I can't take it anymore.
Look into the water pipe break @ Bennett High School over the weekend. It apparently flooded several wings of the school and they were still cleaning/fixing it as of yesterday.
What do you think about tomorrow?

ReplyDeleteAgain, Fredericksen only cares about himself! He is so out in left field - no common sense
ReplyDeleteThey won't be open tomorrow either. And with the 6 inches coming on Tues/Wed, they'll be out most of the week.

ReplyDeleteIf you go to another country that speaks a different language you learn to speak their language or you don't communicate. Simple as that.

ReplyDelete12:15 is a fortunate one as well as 10:18 and also to be included in the idiot category!

ReplyDeleteWicomico county schools closed Tuesday per web site.

ReplyDeleteI was riding to the doctor and saw the senior lot at Parkside (last picture). When I came back by a truck was beginning to plow the CTE lot.
