"I'm Tired" By Robert A. Hall

I’ll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth around" to people who don’t have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros, and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela . Won't multiculturalism be beautiful?

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I believe "a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin." I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois.

I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that think Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I’m tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue, or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What’s next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I’m not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here’s the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois , where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet as well.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers, and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

Robert A. Hall is a Marine Vietnam veteran who served five terms in the Massachusetts State Senate.

  3. IF YOU READ MY COMMENT, READ IT ALL THE WAY OR YOU'LL MISS THE POINT!

Why are people so quick to hate on ALL Muslims these days and tend to judge all of them by the actions of a very small number?

One of the instructors at the Wor Wic Eastern Shore Police Academy addressed this best in our class last year by saying, "Think about it, the National Counterterrorism Center maintains a central repository of 325,000 names, European Union's has 175,000 names, lets throw in 2,000,000 more names to cover any other list in the world, total comes up to 2.5 Million. How many Muslims in the world today? 1.6 BILLION! 2.5 Million is no where even close to 1% of the total Muslim population!"

Yet time and time again Joe you allow these hate filled rants on your blog. Why? It's offensive and Un-American. You could have easily edited out those few lines.

The gas station by my house is owned by a Muslim, he has never tried to kill me or my wife when we are on a milk run for the kids because we are Christians. No Muslim that I have ever met, stopped or arrested burned down a school, stoned anyone, or was a sex offender. Stop reading hate mail and believing every single BS line!

Open your eyes and think for yourself folks, look at the number again! Don't let these Muslim hatters scare you because its only gonna lead to one thing; OBAMA taking more of your Liberty by claiming its only to protect you from the Muslims.

Theres a bigger picture out there! Don't let others think for you and lead you to hate.

"Give me Liberty or give me Death"

  4. Any questions about Islam? Read the Koran. It's all in there. Just like some Christians go to church on Sundays, but don't live by the Bible, there are muslims that do not live by the Koran. Islam is a violent religion with violent beginnings that included taking regions and countries by force and ramming Islam down their throats. If they didn't accept Islam, they were killed. This is all sanctioned and commanded in the Koran as well as brutal treatment of women as property. The fact that Mohammed allowed himself to take a child bride and comsumate the marriage when she was 9, says it all. After all, he is the original author of the Koran. As far as tolerance for a religion that allows women to suffer and allows child sex offense, I have no tolerance!!

  7. To 9:21, I moved to the shore from New York city 4 years ago, I met muslims everyday in NY because everyone knows theres a huge muslim community there. I see your point and agree with you 100%! It's nice to see others down here can think for them-selfs and thank you for your service to the community.

9:35 In your case, Sadly you are just another example of a mindless drone with the same misinformation that has been shoved down the throats of other like you. Even when the man put facts with numbers in your face you still couldn't get the point he was trying to show. Too be honest .... It makes me sad thinking about your un-american shameful rant.

  11. The Islamophobes claim that Islam is intrinsically a terroristy religion. The proof? Well, just about every terrorist attack is Islamic, they retort. Unfortunately for them, that’s not quite true. More like six percent.

On the FBI’s official website, there exists a chronological list of all terrorist attacks committed on U.S. soil from the year 1980 all the way to 2005.

According to this data, there were more Jewish acts of terrorism within the United States than Islamic (7% vs 6%). These radical Jews committed acts of terrorism in the name of their religion. These were not terrorists who happened to be Jews; rather, they were extremist Jews who committed acts of terrorism based on their religious passions, just like Al-Qaeda and company. Let them dare say that …they couldn’t; it would be political and social suicide to say such a thing.

  18. I think its sad that the only thing you (9:21am comment) took from that man was what he said about Muslims, in case you didn't read until the end it wasn't just about Muslims, it was about the many problems that are going on right now. And 9:44 comment not every terrorist is Muslim, before 9/11 we had the Oklahomo Bomber was a terrorist and in case I was lied to he was a white man. I'm not saying that there aren't Muslim terrorist but not every terrorist is Muslim and I'm not saying that I'm supporting them but lets look at the whole picture. Lets get our facts straight before we judge. This man wrote about many wrongs in our country that we need to right as a whole.d

  19. Right on!Its an epidemic.
you want to get angry, work in a liquor store at welfare check time and have a guy in $200 shoes who just dropped $40 on Grey Goose or Henessy tell you to your face he is going to buy mixers(juice, soda, etc) someplace else were he can use his food stamp card to get them. Its enough to give you a stroke if you dwell on it.

  20. 9:42 would you really give up your liberty and freedom for protection? If thats true - you are a sheep.

Remember the words of Benjamin Franklin:

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Never give up your liberty or freedom. These things make all else possible.

  21. Well said, Mr. Hall!! What ever happened to good work ethic of, " I was hired to do a job, I accepted the wage I was offered when I took the job. If I work hard I will receive raises and promotions." The work ethic today (if they work at all!) is I showed up, so what are you going to do for me!
The ones on welfare your entire adult lives, you do not deserve my hard earned money! Get your lazy butts & work! No one "too good" to work in the fields or the poultry plants. If we took the jobs back from the illegal immigrants(the only ones who are not "too good" to do them, we would not need welfare.

Mr. Hall, I am tired too!

  22. I am tired of ALL social programs. Let's get rid of medicare, medical assistance, medicaid, WIC, welfare. You can't have it both ways. If you can't do it on your own, tough! No offense, but some old people live in the doctors office due to greedy doctors wanting to bill medicare to the hilt. They have the elderly brainwashed that they need to take 20 different medications. I have private health insurance but yet I can't go to the doctor of my choice. However, the doctors office is full of medical assistance patients (pediatricians office). The creation of all social programs has ruined this country. Let's go back to families taking care of their parents. Ever watch the Waltons.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The elderly in this country really take it in the neck. Most of them worked hard all their lives and own their homes, so they cannot get assistance until they "spend down" the assets they worked all their lives for to carry them through old age. Meanwhile, their out of pocket medical costs are going through the roof, and you have alot of our greatest generation deciding whether they want to be cold or hungry. The lazy and stupid should fend for themselves but let's not cut eldercare programs anymore than we already have.

  24. Sounds like you may very well be tired because you are working to support 2 households. And since I can only guess that the father of that grandchild is not in the picture, since they have to live off you, she would more than likely have to apply for some of the government services that you are bad mouthing if it wasn't for you helping her. Think before you rant because that is all this racist filled blog entry is about. If you are really that tired... do something about your situation don't lump everyone into groups and assume that some people couldn't live without those helpful programs. I work, I have since the age of 14 and I own my own home. I have a disabled 36 year old sister(brain tumors at the age of 11 leaving her 11 in her mind forever, epileptic, deaf, not able to see well) my parents have worked hard their entire lives they have paid taxes and if the government had not helped, she would have died. I have plenty more to say to I'll end it here.

  25. Thank you for posting my piece, "I'm Tired." I am amused by folks who thought that my statements agreeing with Martin Luther king and deploring policies that hurt minorities were racist.

Islam is, of course not a race (anyone can become a Muslim by making the declaration of faith, one of the five pillars), but a combined religious-political system for governing every aspect of life. The things I stated happen daily, as anyone who subscribes to the daily news digest at www.jihadwatch.com is sickeningly aware. It is true that there are millions of Muslims who want to live in peace and not kill those who disagree with them, just as there were millions of peaceful Germans and Japanese in 1939. And they are equally irrelevant. My "Reading list for the War on Terror" might be helpful, as it contains pro-Islam books I have read like "No God But God." I especially recommend "America Alone" by Mark Steyn.
