Hunters Having A Field Day With Snow Geese
Hunters are shooting so many of the Snow Geese, (which are in season) they're leaving many others in other fields after they shoot them.
I actually collected three of them yesterday in the field next to our home. This was one of them.
I'm told by local Farmers that the only meat on them that's any good is the breast meat. By their reaction, (look on their faces) it doesn't sound like they're even good eating.
So why shoot these beautiful birds if they're not that good to eat? Perhaps some of you enjoy the flavor, I don't know.
because they are so destructive and no one wants them to accumulate or come back.
ReplyDeletePluck them. Boil them thoroughly, and then feed the breast meat to the dogs. They love it.
ReplyDeleteThe Eastern shore residents know how to manage wild life on the shore .To ensure their vitality and ours . Before you post a picture trying to cause outrage maybe you should do a little research or move back to the city !
ReplyDeleteSounds like a mean sport to me. If you shoot them, clean up the mess. Don't leave them left behind. For all you know they aren't dead yet.
ReplyDeleteJR and Greenboy are destructive and there are many who don't want them around. Now there are two we can easily leave behind!
It really breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteDon't people know these birds are starving. There is nothing on the ground for them to eat. It's been this way for weeks.
Canada Geese, when feeding on marsh grasses, 'nip' off the tops of the plants. Snow Geese pull the entire plants up by the roots. Thus, destroying the marshlands - a valuable resource for many animals.
ReplyDeleteSnow geese are are eating themselves out of their nesting grounds. The limit is 15 birds for a reason. I seriuosly doubt that responsible hunters would leave game in the field. Perhaps they landed there and died from wounds at a previous field.
ReplyDeleteIt is because these birds are vermin that needs to be trimmed down in numbers.
ReplyDeleteThey are destructive, filthy, and out of control!
2:13, starving? They are SNOW geese! I think they know that food is under the snow even if you don't. Don't you think they would fly further south if they needed to?
ReplyDeleteI do not condone killing for sport, but please get your facts straight.
The one in the picture isn't starving. Besides, they are palatable in stews, chili, and sketti sauce.
ReplyDeleteOh for petes sake, look at them, they were cripples that flew away.
ReplyDeleteBreast them out, they are fantastic!
Insert kife on breast bone and cut down the side of the plate, be careful around the bottom of the wing and inside of a minute, boom, 2 fresh goose breasts, I can do it without getting blood on my hands, then cook way slow and way slow, with worcestshire and garlic. Serve with horseradish mayo sauce on fresh baguette(sp?)bread
here is one way

how come my mouth is watering...
PS- Joe, if you ever want to go shotgunning, let me know brother!
Buzzards gotta eat, too. So leave `em in the fields, if you want to!
ReplyDeletebecause they destroy habitat.. and are not good eating
ReplyDeleteKill as many as you can legally..
They are also very difficult to kill easily.. lots of work to setup and need to do scouting.
They are a menace
"It really breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteDon't people know these birds are starving. There is nothing on the ground for them to eat. It's been this way for weeks."
DUHHHHHHHHHHHH hence the reason to rid of them. So, you want hunters to leave them alone so they can overpopulate?
kill every last one of them!
ReplyDeleteits time 2 have a open season on the geese in salisbury and thin them out some. getting tired of shovelin thier poop off of my property!!!
ReplyDeleteJoe, these rednecks will shoot anything that moves. Maybe they're target practicing for what's to come in the near future.
ReplyDeletethey are fine to eat. I've eaten them my whole life. Stew......soup....it's fine.
ReplyDeleteHey 2:49pm Try telling our local farmers Canadian nip off the tops of plants I haven't seen one do that yet they pull up the whole dang thing. The snow geese are more destructive yet and eat everything that's here for local birds and game. Like someone else mentioned feed them to the dogs if you are not going to eat them. If you tree hugger's don't like it move back to the city where you came from and wonder where your food comes from. Its a fact of live the food chain that is. The birds being left is hard for me to believe it was intentional.
ReplyDeleteIf you are gonna kill something like that, at least take it home and feed it to your dog. Dogs love snow goose and it is good for them. Oily...good for the coat.
ReplyDeleteThey are a pretty bird but destructive. (I have lived on the shore all my life; proudly I might add)And, I can tell you that these birds can wipe out a wheat crop in a matter of days if the flock is large enough. And they are "hell" on marsh land as stated above.
Back in my day, all that we saw were Canadian geese...huge flocks that would cast a shadow on the earth. They would land, eat the plant tips (i.e prune) and take off again. More good than harm. And they tasted great.
6:39 Please refrain from using racial terms/tags like "rednecks." That is just plain racist.
ReplyDeleteDefinition from wikipedia:
"Redneck" is a disparaging [1] term that refers to a person who is stereotypically Caucasian (white) and of lower social-economic status in the United States, particularly referring to those living in rural areas. Originally limited to the Southern United States,[2] and then to Appalachia,[3] the term has become widely used throughout North America." [end quote]
Joe, this kind of language should not be posted. It is no different than posting the N word, spic, kike, mick, porch monkey, whitey, spoony, chink etc.
Things slip by I understand. Love your blog/news site. Personally I really don't care but, fair is fair.
Michael, are you out of your mind?
ReplyDeleteIf you think I'm going to censor the word "rednect" you must be absolutely crazy.
maybe us rednecks r target practicing?
ReplyDeleteI didn't think you would. And I am glad that you didn't censor my original post to omit the word "micks"... of which I am one. And proud.
ReplyDeleteJust making a point.
Salt & pepper snow goose breast meat, drizzle with melted butter seasoned with minced garlic, coat each breast with at least a 2 inch thick coating of good quality cow excrement, bake in oven for 3 hours at 350 or until excrement coating is crispy & flaky. Peel the delicious excrement coating from the goose breast and serve with gravy. The breast meat should be discarded as as the bull crap tastes much better!
ReplyDeleteRedneck is not an insult its an honor....get a life michael
ReplyDeleteMaybe Michael should write Jeff Foxworthy.
ReplyDeletemmmm sounds good!
ReplyDeleteThose who shoot anything and leave the carcass behind simply enjoy killing. They deserve to be called what they are, sociopaths.
ReplyDeleteMost people in Delmarva live in urban areas, some in cities; many in towns. Those that reject that fact really are as backwards as they sound.
Rednecks built America
ReplyDeleteSome of you need to be cautious in regards to taunting these REDNECKS! You should be aware of the fact by now that they do not have any qualms about shooting and eating anything that moves & I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of them are "cannibalistic". LOL!
ReplyDeleteSnow Geese are like Illegal immigrants....Go ahead and protect them you liberals. You don't like it move back to the city!
ReplyDeleteHow to properly cook a goose. Many people have no clue.
