Joe, watched your show and read the documents your councilwoman wrote. You said something really important.
Why should this or the other councilwoman keep up the fight given the apathy of the people they represent.
They are obviously committed, intelligent and passionate. I would beg your citizens not to take that for granted.
Where we live, we "let a good one get away." She was bright and hardworking. But people used every excuse in the book as why they couldn't do X, Y or Z.
Support the people you backed for election after they get in, folks. We all think it's terrible when a politician doesn't keep their pre-election promises.
After what I've seen here, it's terrible to forget the promises of support you gave to a good candidate after they become a good official.
We deserve the government we get and we get the government we deserve.
anonymous 9:15, thank you for your comment. Let me add, I find it even more interesting when you get honorable people like Campbell & Cohen who never have to worry about when it comes to campaign promisses because that's who they are and how they live.
In fact, no one here can tell me either one of them have ever broken a campaign promise.
People should pay more attention to those politicians who stated one thing to get there and then changed their way while after we supported them. This is my growing concern with Mayor Ireton. Yes, Jim is a great guy but when you say you're going to do something, DO IT!
I can't recall if I mentioned this or not in tonight's episode but it took 4 times to get the show done today. Fresh news kept coming in and one time I ran over the limit on time. I was tired, (started blogging posts at 6:00 AM today) and I had several additional topics I wanted to bring up but didn't have the time.
I guess I'll address them at another time but people do need to start showing more support. My guess is that so many people depend on us to cover these meetings so they don't have to attend. Then there's the mom and dad who come home from work and have to care for the kids, so 6 pm isn't a great time for them to make it to a meeting.
At the AFP Meeting the other knight I started asking some polling questions like, how many of you have attended Council Meetings. A few hands went up. Then, (feeling somewhat confident) I asked, how many of you watch the meetings on PAC 14, public television. Not a single hand went up. Now that was interesting. I even asked it again because I thought maybe they didn't understand me.
When I talked about that situation with friends at a later point they said, well, they're making dinner, working on homework with the kids, etc.. They're right. Now I'm not complaining about the TIME they hold these meetings because I think it's far better than what the County Council subjects everyone too, holding a day time meeting.
However, it's a lose/lose situation and that goes for state and national politics as well. No one has the time any more and I can't necessarily blame them. I understand more so now than ever before why so many people depend on Salisbury News for updates on these meetings. Very interesting stuff.
Joe:
ReplyDeleteHow about giving a quick preview statement so we know if you are covering something of interest -- it's called a teaser in the trade.
Council President breaks the law as well as others, more to come.....
ReplyDeleteImpact Fee Letter by Mayor a complete crock, more to come.....
Condolences to Sheddy Family, more to come....
Good enough? More to come.....
I LIKE the first one...cant wait to hear it.
ReplyDeleteThere could be a delay tonight as YouTube is giving us a hard time uploading. We'll see what happens.
