I found it quite interesting that the Wicomico Board Of Education Website states the following, "All Schools are operating on a regular schedule" UPDATE: Monday, February 1st : School closed due to weather

WMDT does not have anything showing Schools being closed at all for Monday.

I want to make this very clear to everyone. I have asked Dr. John Fredricksen and others on the Board to please send us Press Releases as well as School Closings and they absolutely refuse to send us anything. It seems the Board of Education can dish it but they cannot handle constructive criticism. This is your leaders teaching our children they can block freedom of speech and this is THEIR America, they don't have to follow rules and laws like everyone else.

Where does WBOC say Wicomico County Schools Closed? They have not made a decision and it is not posted on WBOC's site...you seeing something I am not?

  2. WBOE is a nazi organisation! they want the money but don't want to have to answer to anyone! Tiem for a complete house cleaning over there!

  3. wboc doesn't show anything for wicomico county as of a couple seconds ago

  4. I AGREE I HAVE BEEN KEEPIN CHECK ON THERE WEBSITE. BACK ROADS ARE HORRIBLE. ALOT OF FOLKS LIVE ON BACK ROADS IN OUR AREA. GUESS NOBODY FROM THE BOARD LIVES IN THE PITTSVILLE/WILLARDS AREA HUH

  5. Joe:

Although it may be obvious...a decision has not been made. I asked a friend of mine who is a school administrator and she has not received a call yet. Always has in the past so I don't think you are correct in your thoughts.

  6. anonymous 5:31, you're exactly right, my fault. Heck, with the roads in the condition they're in, I highly doubt they're going to swing their doors at all tomorrow. Thanks for bringing that to my/our attention.

    ReplyDelete
  7. They are just waiting to leave us that message at 5:00 in the morning. That's enjoyment for them.

    ReplyDelete
  8. If you go out and look at the schools---most of the parking lots have not been plowed--so it's looking really good that wicomico will be closed tomorrow

    ReplyDelete
  9. Wicomico County has made the decision to close - they have already told us bus drivers. We knew at 3:30 this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Delmar Elem School teachers are under the impression that they are closed..

    ReplyDelete
  11. wico bus drivers have been notified of no school.

  12. Wicomico County schools are closed just got word.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I work for the board and they do usually wait till 5 am ..I have gotten up at 4 am and the closings have still not been posted. It would be such a relief if they would just post it the night before so everyone doesn't lose sleep wondering what is going to transpire.

  14. BOE Wicomico are socialist leaders , it is obvious. They have never opened the doors of communication to the public. They WILL open the budjet figures very shortly. We have had enough of their crap.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's nothing personal, Joe. Wicomico is not up on WBOC either. They ALWAYS wait until last to go up. They did cancel the night before when we had the last one however, so maybe they will be smart (and a little considerate) and let the parents know tonight.

The roads stink. Just got back in and they are going to be one icy mess tonight. Many were plowed, but not sanded or salted and there was drifting on some of them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ya they always wait til the last minute

    ReplyDelete
  17. As a parent and husband of a educator I must say that I am very let down by WCBOE. Why would they think it appropriate to wait until tomorrow morning to make the obvious right choice to close our schools. Is this a game, don't they understand that working parents need to make arrangements for thier children when school is closed. Does WCBOE want an Easton like event where students were hurt and a bus driver killed? Oh well this is Wicomico County.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Where can one find out if the courts are going to be open or closed tomorrow?

    Thanks,

    ReplyDelete
  19. WCBOE does as they please...
*God forbid they tell parents they are closing at a decent time; they might actually have time to make arrangements for childcare.

*Plans to close the magnet program!!! Why worry about those kids... they are already smart. The magnet program is excellent and they want to shut it down... of course! Busing??? Most of the magnet population are car riders anyway. Want to save money???? Eliminate high paid positions at the board not the people who are actually working every day teaching our kids.
I don't understand their thinking and never will.

  20. Wicomico Schools are closed for tomorrow, the WBOE just made the decision.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The administrators and supervisors at the Board of Education are NOT teaching our children. The TEACHERS are doing the teaching, and they are often just as baffled as you are about the decisions made by the BOE!
Anyway, they'll figure out the obvious sooner or later and make the call to close.

  22. Joe...

Although not officially posted, bus drivers have been told that schools are closed tomorrow in Wicomico Co.

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is all about a Bill Cain power play at the BOE. He gets to make the call and he gets off being the last or would probably get more enjoyment out of going tomorrow when everyone else is home

    ReplyDelete
  24. I guess that Wicomico doesn't see that Wicomico got more snow than Dorcester, but they are closed. Well if we had only an inch, they would have already called it in.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Joe...

It is now posted on WBOC...

  26. Funny now Wicomico is closed

  30. They need to be considerate for the community of parents and employers. I DONT THINK THEY CARE OR GIVE A DARN ABOUT THE SAFTEY OF OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY, THE CHILDREN. They only thing they are concern about is when they are going to meet at HOOTERS, ruth chris steak house or how much coffee they can drink at star bucks! We realy need to let them know who they work for.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Delmar is closed now too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So Bus drivers knew at 3:30 and they waited to tell everyone else 3 hours later. Yeah, that makes alot of sense. Once again, WCBOE makes it's taxpayers so proud. How many more years must we live with the disaapointment?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Now it's on the BOE website, but says 1/31 they're closed. Well, no kidding, it's Sunday! Just got a voice mail from the district saying Wicomico schools are closed tomorrow.

    They're a bunch of morons.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I wish they would close schools for college students who drive as far as Virginia to get to school. And then have to wander around campuses that stretch half a mile to get to class.

I wish we could be nicely placed at front doors and seat in one heated building all day.

Alas, the presidents of our universities don't care about us. All they care about is that we pay our tuition.

But no one seems to care about the fact that college kids have to drive all around the shore to get to school.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Joe:

I believe the reason that Wicomico Board of Education officials aren't responding to any of the citizens queries is because it is Sunday.

Their collective barganing agent - Teachers Union - probably won't allow any of their officials to work on the weekends.

The public will have to wait and see tomorrow.

  36. Fredickson just called: WicCOMICo is closed...

  37. 6:18 They didn't just decide.....we bus drivers were told at 3:30

  38. I am not a BOE employee, but know alot who are. They have given a 2 hour delay to employees for far less snow..maybe 3 or 4 inches, we get 14 inches(we have that much here in delmar/salisbury line) and employees get a 1 hour delay? WTF? I know myself that there is about 12 iches of snow piled up around my vehicle and the snow plows have trapped me in my driveway. I am in no condition to go out and shovel so that I can leave an hour ahead of schedule to get to work an hour late.....I wont be going to work tomorrow. BOE...think about the safety of your employees first!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's now 7:20 PM ad we just got the Fredericksen call.

  40. Wicomico County School is closed!!!

  41. It is really cold outside. Its a good thing the wind is mild.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What about city and county government meetings tomorrow? Any news on that? I see that Tri-County Council has annoucned cancellation - some much appreciated consideration of the public there.

    ReplyDelete
  43. does anyone know if wor wic community college is closed for tomorow?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Courts are open tomorrow. Got word over an hour ago. Could still change but not likely. Our Judges' don't close very often.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Its 14F outside nothing will be open tommorow. Run your water some.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You can ice skate on this stuff tommorow morning, right down the road.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I will be surprised if schools will be open on Tuesday. There is no way that the back roads will be safe by then.

    ReplyDelete
  48. If drivers know at 3:30, what is the reason why parents can't be informed? What is the reason for the 3-hour wait?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Maybe Bill Cain was on the FENCE about closing. Taxpayers should ask him about his FENCE.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I work for the BOE and was told I get an hour delay. Now what is the point of closing school but making me come in late? Do they not think any of us would have to drive our kids to a babysitters house? The point of closing school was so the kids didn't have to be on the roads. Shows how much they care. I got a 2 hour delay when there was only 3 inches of snow on the ground!

    ReplyDelete
  51. 7:57...

Be happy you have a job...quit if you don't like it...that way you won't have to worry about it!

Schools are almost always open when the kids have a snow day. And don't give me that teachers vs. office staff stuff. You are paid to work more days than then by your contract.

  52. does anyone know if Wor Wic is closed?

  53. I just came from the movies in Salisbury and there is black ice everywhere.

I saw the movie "The Lovely Bones".
It is a have to see. Very wonderful effects to transition as the book does. That usually cannot be done very well.

Things will hit close to home when you see this movie.

stop whining. What other businesses are off. You sound as spoiled as the teachers.

    ReplyDelete
  56. 7:11PM, I'm happy for you Bus Drivers that you were told at 3:30PM, I decided at last night that my kids were staying home anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I just got the call....WICO schools are closed tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  58. WBOE sucks, they always wait until the am, they have no clue that people need to make arrangements for their children and making decisons in the am leave us no time to make them so we have to stay home and miss work, if they would join in with the rest of the schools and inform the night before, plans could be made and we wouldn't have to use vacation time or lose pay all together!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have to work tomorrow. Have a good day everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  60. WBOC no longer posts child care provider closings at all - at least WCBOE eventually tells you something - but WBOC will only post the centers affiliated with churches. So parents still can't make arrangements until they call & see if the daycares are open in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Salisbury Christian closed tomorrow as well...

    ReplyDelete
  62. WBOE needs to be elected not appointed like they are. They would then be much more accountable for their job performance if the future of their job hinged on re-election by their employers (the taxpayers). This has proven to be very effective elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  63. 8:05.....I am thankful that I have a job. Why don't you take your kids and drive around in this mess in a little car. My point was that even though they closed schools, I STILL have to drive my child to the babysitters in this mess. Mine and my child's SAFETY is more important then missing a day of work!

    ReplyDelete
  64. All schools closed except for Wor Wic. Even SU is closed! I guess the roads are much better for you if you go to WorWic?!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  65. If you didn't shovel your driveway and sidewalk yesterday, I feel sorry for you. Yesterday, the snow was light with a thin sheet of ice underneath. Today, it's frozen and will be really hard to shift. The same with the city plows-they should have been out in force yesterday morning while the sun was out. I went to World Gym yesterday and the side street hadn't been plowed at all. Get it together Salisbury! Where do my tax dollars go anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Does MD or wico county know what salt is? It helps lower the freezing point so that ice wont accumulate on the roads. I drove throughout Salisbury and western Wico county yesterday and saw 2 roads that had been salted. All the posts about how great ppl are with plowing roads and helping each other, where is this kind of comradery from the county. For everyone 1 good responsible citizen here there are 50 others who couldnt care less.

It'll be Wednesday or Thursday before the kids have school this week.

    ReplyDelete
  67. In reading all of these comments I have to wonder something...wouldn't it be interesting if parents banded together via email and all just decided to keep their kids home for a day. Would a message be delivered then? I'm very upset about this as my husband is a school administrator and he has to report to work. They have him so brainwashed that he has to risk himself to go into the office, for what? Granted, he can take time off, but the big bosses retaliate in other ways, and it is just so juveinile. The problem in this school system has ALWAYS been the central office - the people in the schools do all of the work and they suffer while they go to Hooters, have fences built on company time by company employees, and spend just oodles of money on one stupid thing after another. If everyone had the viewpoint I do about how school administrators are just scared to death to spend any money until they are TOLD to do it by their superiors, you would all have a much clearer picture. I want my husband to quit - this school system just isn't worth it.
